pb's prediction. This will turn out to be a scam. People convicted of this crime who are not rich white guys, related to a political big-timer get harsher treatment than Hunter will.

They are crimes that are regularly pleaded down to never owning a firearm again and having to go through a drug rehab situation or other.
But still... Hunter Biden broke the law. He committed felonies in fact.
See? I can say it. Once I had some factual, legal corroboration about it.

Do you think Joe will pardon his son, Bill?
I mean, if the president and his party are such banana republic fascists as you adamantly believe they are, it's a foregone conclusion to you that he will, isn't it?
by Curt_Anderson on September 14, 2023 11:45 am Hunter Biden may be “pardoned“ by the Supreme Court.
WASHINGTON (AP) — A federal appeals court has ruled that drug users shouldn’t automatically be banned from having guns, marking the latest sign of upheaval in the nation’s firearm legal landscape and raising questions about a law cited in the case against Hunter Biden.
————————————————————————
This gives me an idea! We could get Republicans on board with gun control legislation, by simply telling them that these laws could be used against Hunter Biden wilx.com

That's interesting, Curt. How long ago were these charges filed?
It's gonna be quite a parade on the court room circuit this coming year, eh?
by Curt_Anderson on September 14, 2023 12:00 pm I don’t know the particulars about that case other than what you might see at the link. But I do know that Amy Coney Barrett has said that she believes laws barring drug users from owning guns is unconstitutional.

This amounts, essentially, to lying under oath.

Curt, she and her party are people who saw to it that legally insane people could own guns.
Using drugs and owning guns? Phthphthphthphth!!!

Sure does, Bill. All it takes is checking a certain box on a form and signing your name to it.
by HatetheSwamp on September 14, 2023 1:30 pm
And, it's a felony.
by Curt_Anderson on September 14, 2023 2:20 pm There are at least two defenses that Hunter Biden might use.
Two key ideas in criminal law—actus reus and mens rea—are essential for proving criminal responsibility. Mens rea refers to the offender's mental state at the time of the crime, whereas actus reus relates to the physical act of committing a crime. Mens rea is criminal intent.
If the gun form asked a question like "are you addicted to drugs?", like many addicts, Hunter might have rationalized, no, I'm not, I can quit whenever I want so he answered no. No criminal intent.
Also a contract is void if either party is required to do something illegal. On similar grounds I also believe that a contract cannot require somebody to give up their constitutional rights.

See Legal Goober #1's comments. This seems to pb to attempt to divert from any investigation of possible connections between Joe and Hunter crimes.

by oldedude on September 14, 2023 8:34 pm I don't think anything will happen on this also.
The next issue for him are the taxes and him not registering as a foreign agent. The judge was not happy with prosecution because of the plea agreement which basically let him off and a minimum fine. So that's going to be interesting. This is where the banking information is key. You can see money in, money out, and money in illegal accounts overseas.
Just as a note here, The Treasury Department said that it was “imposing nearly 100 sanctions on Russian elites and Russia’s industrial base, financial institutions, and technology suppliers as the United States continues to leverage sanctions and economic restrictions to undermine Russia’s capacity to wage its war against Ukraine.”
Oligarchs Yelena Baturina and Vladimir Yevtushenkov weren’t among the new targets — even though they have similarities to other newly sanctioned businesspeople.
Baturina, the former first lady of Moscow, assembled her $1.3 billion fortune through real estate and investments and dined with Hunter Biden and then-Vice President Joe Biden at least once at DC’s Café Milano. For reasons that remain unclear, she transferred $3.5 million in February 2014 to a firm controlled by Hunter and his associate Devon Archer.
That to me, is extremely interesting. Baturina is the one Hunter structured and funneled money for while working for them. And they're still able to launder money through the US, which means their Rubles (exchanged into either USD or EU at a higher rate) are worth much more than putting them into the Chinese system.
This makes that trial even more interesting.
