The singer Oliver Anthony, whose song “Rich Men North of Richmond” has soared to the top of the Billboard singles chart, released a YouTube video on Friday denouncing Republicans and conservative outlets for co-opting his song.

“It was funny seeing that presidential debate,” Anthony said. “I wrote that song about those people.”

Anthony said Friday it “cracks me up” that the candidates had been forced to listen to his song onstage, because he was singing about powerful people like them.

The new video showed him behind the wheel of his truck, as heavy rain pelted the windows. “That song has nothing to do with Joe Biden,” he said. “You know, it’s a lot bigger than Joe Biden.”

Continued at link.

In reporting elsewhere, Anthony described himself as middle-of-the-road politically.

I think the only people who thought that were the wokesters and the little germans.

    OD,
You agreed with me when I said, "this song is not right or left-leaning."

HtS took it to be some sort of anti-Democrat, anti-Biden, anti-Pelosi screed set to music.

The RNC obviously was oblivious to Oliver Anthony's intended message and that his song was aimed at "those people" on the debate stage. Otherwise it wouldn't have been the opening song.

There was actually a joke about that on Fox the next day. About how even the people there were pretty much donors to each candidate. And it is anti-biden(s), pelosi, etc because they're the ones causing the issues with the middle and low income. I would also include those who rip the jobs off of those middle and lower income people and don't think twice about taking their jobs, or that there are human beings that are affected by their decisions. This is something I've made a point to say a lot here.

    OD,
So you DO think it's anti-Biden, etc. despite the singer/song-writer's denials.

Apparently you are a wokester or a little German.

    Bullfernerner.

pb said that it's puuuuure antiSwamp. And, that's precisely what it is. BTW, "anti-Democrat, anti-Biden, anti-Pelosi" absolutely is part of that. A biiiiiiiig part.

    BTW,

This is pb's initial comment about the song:

"Memo to all you wokesters: This ain't right wing. It's blue collar antiSwamp. My guess is that Indy'd groove on it. And, the problem that you electric limousine lib lovers are in is that, pretty much everyone on the left I know of thinks that this is conservative. It absolutely ain't. This is not thinking you get from Fox News, nor Clay and Buck. Nor that gay Guy Curt never heard of."

Anti pedojoe because he's the head of the a$$holes north of Richmond and is responsible for good paying jobs being hard to find. Not by name, but he's rich, he doesn't GAF about miners, factory workers, construction workers, truck drivers (even though he was one), and all the other shift workers (and many that work far longer hours). The one's I named ARE what the song is about.

Again. You take shit completely out of context and choose to fight. I'm game if you really want to play at this.

    Right, OD.

As pb noted from the beginning, it's antiSwamp. It's anti that whole place North of Richmond.

And, Joe's the quintessential SwampCreature. He began there in the year Nixon was reelected!

Oliver Anthony hit a chord that resonates with everyone not enamored of the Swamp. I think half of them post here. po, Curt, isle, Donna. Yup. That'd be about half of the SwampLovers in America.

Based on what Anthony said, I think it's that the debate included eight people who want to sit atop the Swamp mess that bemused him.

But, gang if you think that the bubba who wrote them lyrics is a fan of "that feckless dementia-ridden piece of crap?," you got problems.
