    Ponderer,
I have no doubt that a good share of Trump voters voted for and will vote for him again because they think he's entertaining. They don't take the presidency, democracy or even America's future seriously.

The energy companies falsely inflate and deflate gas prices to affect elections - raise the prices against Ds, lower them for Rs. Which goes to show how effective propaganda works - even the energy companies are convinced there is a difference between the "two" parties.

  28. by HatetheSwamp on May 2, 2024 8:31 am

I'm not certain that I agree about Kennedy having common sense but, for the last few weeks, I've been thinking about Donna's sanctimony that many moderates and independents are "low information voters." That idea is as self-righteous as any coming from any woke, white electric limousine lovin progressive in the history of SS.

What's struck me is that moderate and independent voters ain't low information. What they also ain't is ideological. What they are is common sense voters.

What the Swamp is giving us in 024 is as anti common sense as can be imagined. Two old farts. One deep in the throes of dementia... ASUFUTIMAEHAEHFUTBW!... t'other, despicable.

This will be the common sense election!

The last anonymous commenter likes RFK Jr. because of "common sense". I suspect "common" there means that they have views in common including RFK Jr.'s long list of conspiracy theories and odd beliefs.

RFK Jr. isn't usually accused of having commonsense.

  43. by Curt_Anderson on May 11, 2024 2:01 pm
    Regarding #42:
It feels pretty good! I don't care if somebody votes for Biden begrudgingly or enthusiastically, just as long enough people vote for Biden to give him an electoral college win.

  44. by Indy! on May 11, 2024 4:22 pm

I believe it. As I've been saying for years - you need to aim higher, Curt.

  45. by Curt_Anderson on May 11, 2024 4:39 pm
    Indy,
You mean "higher" like RFK Jr., Cornel West or Jill Stein?

  46. by Indy! on May 11, 2024 8:29 pm

That would be a start. Any one of them would be far better than the two mentally impaired corporate puppets of the uniparty.

  47. by Curt_Anderson on May 11, 2024 10:16 pm
    Indy,
Aside from many of their political views that I don't share, the glaring flaw of RFK Jr., Cornel West and Jill Stein is that they are unelectable and never will be elected. None of them are on more than a handful of state ballots, so they have zero chance in the electoral college. Having a mathematical chance of being elected is kind of a big deal.

At most they are spoilers. Ironically, they take votes from the major party candidate who most closely shares their political positions. So they are counterproductive to their own ideology. We are not like the UK and their parliamentary system where coalition governments are formed between similar-minded parties.

Before you suggest that states should automatically allow those three on the their ballots like they do Democrats and Republicans, consider that candidates can (and will) run for president under the Constitution, Conservative, Equal Tax, Pirate, Save America, People's, Socialist banners and many other minor political parties. There are even more crackpots running as independents. Our presidential ballots would look like phone books.

  48. by HatetheSwamp on May 12, 2024 6:03 am

    Curt,

You've been making it clear, since it became obvious that the "dithering and diminished" Doddering Old Fool was going to be the 020 Dem nominee, that you're not excited about him.

Be honest with yourself, you agree with Indy and pb about the Former Truck Driver. What we disagree about is the Swamp.

The Swamp provides a good cop and a bad cop and lets the gullible decide which is which.

That's who you are and what you're doing.

As Gomer Pyle said, "Fershame, fershame, fershame."

  49. by Indy! on May 12, 2024 10:35 am

Curt - you're two steps behind. We all understand what corporate America wants us to do. Some of us just refuse to do it anymore. But you keep being that handy tool for them.

  50. by Curt_Anderson on May 12, 2024 1:13 pm
    Indy and HtS,
I am so disappointed in corporate America. If they are going to be foisting presidential candidates representing the duopoly upon us, you'd think they'd select more attractive candidates: barrel-chested guys with square jaws and a full head of hair, grey around the temples who are silver-tongued orators. Predictable, unindicted candidates who never slurs words, stutter, gaffe or reveal their narcissistic personality flaws. Guys who don't have sketchy friends or troublesome family members.

C'mon corporate America, get with it!

When you and your friends go out to a restaurant, you might have had your heart set on a specific meal. But ultimately you have to select from what's available on the menu. If you are sharing a pizza with your pals, you have to make compromises so everybody is relatively happy. Maybe you won't get exactly what you wanted, but you'll get some of what you wanted. That's better than eating something disgusting.

  51. by HatetheSwamp on May 12, 2024 3:39 pm

    Curt,

It's time for you and your pals to choose another restaurant and a different cuisine.

  52. by Curt_Anderson on May 12, 2024 5:39 pm
    HtS,
Come Tuesday, November 5th there is only one restaurant in America. It is essentially a limited menu. There were more choices earlier, but the primaries reduced it to two possible choices. You can go into a pizza parlor and request wienerschnitzel but you won't get it.

  53. by HatetheSwamp on May 13, 2024 5:18 am

    Curt,

You probably know enuff history. In 1860, Lincoln was running as a third-party candidate.

HtS ain't suggesting that 1860 is going to repeat itself in 024, but 028? 032? Maybe. pb's a part of what will happen... if America even survives the Former Truck Driver.

    HatetheSwamp

  54. by Curt_Anderson on May 13, 2024 9:14 am
    HtS,
Actually, in 1860 the Republicans were not a third-party. The Whig party had dissolved several years earlier. The contest in 1860 was between the Republican party candidate, the Democratic Party candidate, the Constitution party candidate, in the southern Democrats. The last two parties had not competed in any previous presidential elections.

  56. by HatetheSwamp on May 13, 2024 9:37 am

What was going on in 1860 was the dissolution of the existing political paradigm. That Swamp served the population so poorly that new categories were appearing... and, they took.

I'm hopeful that we're seeing that happening now.

What happens with Trump in 024, one way or t'other, will leave the SwampGOP in, as po'd say, an EFFINshambles. It's impossible that the party that nominated Mitt Romney in 012 will still exist.

And, the Dems? In 024 nominating a demented ols fool who can't even say, "Four more years?" [See link] the best they can do is foist Mr. "End of quote, Repeat the line" on its party faithful. Disgraceful.

The times, they may be achangin.

"Curt and his small "town" mentality are sometimes amusing, but usually kind of sad too." ---Indy

I suppose that means something in regards to national elections, but I cannot guess what. I know that Biden will get many votes from people in big cities.

  59. by Indy! on May 13, 2024 5:36 pm

That was in regards to the fact you obviously have a very limited amount of choices when it comes to restaurants. You got used to that - and now you're fine having no choice for president either. Bet you only have one traffic light in your town too - at the corner of Main and First Street in what passes for your "downtown".

  60. by Curt_Anderson on May 15, 2024 11:19 am
    Religion selector user says:
The reason Trump should be elected president is because Biden has obliterated the border, the economy is in worse shape, cities are more dangerous, his trans agenda is harmful, and the US was much better under Trump.

  61. by HatetheSwamp on May 15, 2024 11:37 am

And, that sentiment is typical of the thinking that shows up in all polls.

  62. by Indy! on May 15, 2024 12:00 pm

Because most people run on emotion and not the facts. You have a FAR greater chance of committing suicide than you do being murdered. Crime is at a historic low and the crime we do have is mostly property theft - stealing cars, etc... We're currently living in one of the safest times it's ever been to be an American in regards to crime. And cops? Statistically it is currently THE safest time to be a police officer in the history of policing in the USA. Again... turn off Fox, rejoin reality.
