With all the whining and negativity directed at this administration by the Trump republicans, our favorite historian, Heather Cox Richardson, gives us another much more accurate description of how things are faring in our country today! Her daily “Letters From An American” is a refreshing change from the pundits, memes, and celebrity opinion givers pretending to be reporting the “news”!

Excerpt from Heather’s article:

“The popularity of the new law was evident today when Republicans began to tout its benefits for their districts, despite their votes against it. Representative Gary Palmer (R-AL), for example, told his constituents: “Funding the Northern Beltline has consistently been one of my top priorities.” He added, “Birmingham is currently one of the largest metropolitan areas in the country without a complete beltline around it. Completing the Northern Beltline will benefit the entire region and enhance economic development and employment opportunities.” Completion of the road will create more than $2 billion in 10 years, he noted, and could create 14,000 jobs.

And yet, Palmer voted against the bill.”
← lol

And remember…As Robert Hubble said. “If you are feeling bad about the state of the Democratic Party, it could be worse. You could be a Republican.”

    isle,

What absolutely stuns me is how much the popularity of the former 18 wheeler driver has declined, even in Dem friendly polls, since the House passed the bill.

I spected Joe to get a positive, not negative, bump. In fact, I was certain of it.

What we know is that GOPs voted for the bill in large numbers in the Senate and the flatulent fool refused to sign it in an attempt to strong arm House Dems to pass the BBB bill...

...and that he exposed his incompetence and weakness by showing he doesn't lead his own party...

...and, were it not for a generous handful of House GOPs, the Squad would have killed the bipartisan infrastructure bill.

Still, as I say, I'm shocked at the disastrous recent polls. If Heather is correct that it's so popular, based on the generic ballot poll by ABC, maybe the GOPs are getting the credit.

"What we know is that GOPs voted for the bill in large numbers in the Senate and the flatulent fool refused to sign it in an attempt to strong arm House Dems to pass the BBB bill..." --HtS

What are you talking about? A president, any president, cannot sign a bill into law until both the House and Senate vote for it.

    Islander,
I don't think Palmer is the only Republican who voted against the infrastructure Bill who is now touting it. Damned hypocrites!

What are you talking about? A president, any president, cannot sign a bill into law until both the House and Senate vote for it.

    Of course. What's your point?

  4. by Curt_Anderson on November 17, 2021 9:31 am
    HtS,
You complained that Biden didn't sign it after the Senate voted for it.

Both the House and Senate vote for a bill before the President signs it into law. You obviously didn't know that.

  5. by HatetheSwamp on November 17, 2021 10:18 am

Okay, good, Curt. I was less than precise.

The flatulent fool had the votes in the House at the moment the Senate passed the bill but the former 18 wheeler driver didn't push for a vote in the House because he allowed the Squad to attempt to force the passage of the bipartisan bill to be linked to the passage of the BBB bill.

"That feckless dementia-ridden piece of crap" could have used his influence over Nancy and the members of his party to pass the bipartisan bill at the time and he could have signed it long ago.

He is periodically flatulent. But, he's always a fool.

    HtS,
So your contention is that Biden is incompetent because he didn't force the infrastructure bill through the House, a co-equal branch of government, fast enough to suit you. Somehow, you don't have a problem with Trump and his umpteen Infrastructure Week proclamations who NEVER signed an infrastructure bill.

  7. by HatetheSwamp on November 17, 2021 10:45 am

    C'mon man, gimme a break.

The bipartisan bill is called the effin BIPARTISAN bill because Senate leaders of both parties...and the former 18 wheeler driver himself...negotiated and created a bill that was acceptable to a majority, a fairly sizable majority.

It only stands to reason that if the flatulent fool played a role in passing the bill in the Senate, he'd do the same in the House. What he chose to do with the House was refuse to participate in the hope that the progressives in the House could harangue House moderates into linking the two bill. They failed. He failed.

Apparently, the tendency to be conveniently naīve that Donna suffers from is contagious.

You hold Biden and Trump to different standards. In your book Biden "failed" with the infrastructure bill which he signed, but somehow you regard Trump as successful even though Congress would have passed an infrastructure bill while he was president.

Shameless inconsistency and hypocrisy are requirements to be a Republican.

"...somehow you regard Trump as successful even though Congress would have passed an infrastructure bill while he was president."

I do? I think Trump was horrendous in working with Congree, even when GOPs controled the House.

And, what I note the flatulent fool failed in was to convince House moderates to link passage of the BBB bill with the passage of the bipartisan bill.

That he failed in that is historical fact.

  10. by islander on November 17, 2021 4:15 pm

    Curt,

If The fellow Hate supports but pretends to despise (Trump) was able to pass an infrastructure bill after promising to do so, the obvious question would be...Why didn't (or couldn't) he?

The fellow Hate REALLY despises (Biden) DID pass an infrastructure bill proving once again to be the better man for the job. Like Obama who pulled us out of the mess Bush created and left him to fix, history is repeating itself as Biden begins pulling us out of the terrible mess Trump created and left for him to fix!
