This is their second. The first, which I haven't read is THE PRESIDENT IS MISSING.
You may know that James Patterson has been an author of popular fiction for decades. Patterson is best known for his Alex Cross series but, for years, he's been co-authoring books with a variety of other writers. I've checked out some of them.
When I saw that he's writing with Bill Clinton I rolled my eyes but I accidentally stumbled on a very positive comment on THE PRESIDENT'S DAUGHTER and, being the open-minded person I am, I decided to give it a try. My local public library carries all of Patterson's stuff so I placed a hold on the book.
The way I determine whether or not I'll take a chance on a work of popular fiction is to look it up on Amazon and check out Customer Comments. If the 4 star and 5 star ratings add up to 80% or higher, I consider it. THE PRESIDENT'S DAUGHTER ratings added up to an amazing 92, most of them were 5 star.
Last week we met a high school friend and his wife for a lazy, foliage watching, vacation in Maine. The book became available, so I worked on it in quiet moments.
It's a suspense, thriller story. My guess is that Clinton brought some authenticity to the functioning of the Executive Branch of the US government. There were more than a few twists in plot.
It stuck me that it began with the feel of an old Robert Ludlum novel. Thirty years ago I couldn't put those down. It ended reminding me of THE DIRTY DOZEN.
I recommend it. If I have any criticism, it's that there were a few too many twists. If anything, it was too much of a good thing. Books Patterson tend to be short-ish. Not this one.
Still, I have no problem giving the book an enthusiastic, solid 4 stars.
Go for it, if you're into that sort of thing.
