Looks like Putin is not having a good time. The bad guys almost invariably end up destroying themselves...Be a good guy !!!

"Moscow Times reported about four hours ago — roughly 4:00 p.m. ET / 11:00 p.m. Moscow and Kyiv time — that Russia’s Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation (FSB) had filed charges against Putin’s chef, Yevgeny Prigozhin."

"Moscow has mobilized Rosvgardia (National Guard) and Federal Protective Service, FSO troops. There are rumors that the Guard, or some formations, are picking up arms."

"Voice of America’s Steve Herman confirmed RIA Novosti reported Moscow has been locked down."

I think Trump news is going to be taking a back seat for a while.

Before everyone starts their snoopy happy dance, there are a couple of issues. Prigozhin has been a trusted agent of Putin's for awhile. So the two have parted ways.

My first question is; if Putin dies, who is the heir apparent? Generally speaking, in an autocratic regime, most of them got dead (the exception might be DPRK).

One thought might be Mikhail Mishustin, who was the last prime minister. Yeltsin died in 2007, so that eliminates him (so to speak).
I'm not sure if Prigozhin can step in (politically) either. I don't think he has that much juice, and now, people and the military hate him.

Second thought; How close is Xi Jinping to the situation. He could be tired of Putin also, and he's losing a war he shouldn't be. Xi Jinping could be in the process of setting up a clone of China and getting a puppet to move into power. That IS a problem. That would give Russia upgraded weapons, tanks, ultra high speed missiles, and some really good aircraft.

This would make Ukraine another Vietnam for the US, and drag all of NATO into the region. Just what Xi Jinping wants. No downside for him. That leaves a less than effective SEATO to take care of Taiwan.

So just some thoughts of the world stage.

According to reports, Prigozhin ire is towards the Defense Minister (forgot his name) who he's accusing of giving bad info to Putin. I think he's trying to force Putin to replace him. I don't think Prigozhin's interested in taking power himself.

Oh darn. Prigo and Putin reportedly reached a deal, and the Wagner mercenaries are returning to Ukraine.

Hold on... Afghanistan was already "another Vietnam" for America... so are we still using "another Vietnam"? Shouldn't we now switch to "another Afghanistan" so the younger generations will know what we're talking about? 🤔

Good point. Of course the longest running US war is Lyndon Johnson's War on Poverty.

Back to P&P's deal - I'm guessing that one of the agreements was firing the Defense Minister. That seemed to be Prigo's biggest beef. He got Putin's attention, and it worked.

Thanks Donna. Think it's hard to tell exactly when we surrendered on LBJ's "war".

  10. by Donna on June 25, 2023 7:57 am

Well it's looking like everybody including myself was wrong in their prognostications regarding Prigozhin's rebellion.

According to reports, Putin is allowing Prigozhin and his Wagner mercenaries to emigrate to Belarus presumably where they might be able to avoid being prosecuted for treason.

So it appears that Putin won this round.

I'd say Prigozhin won. He can go to Belarus and do his thing there, while not being hung, shot, or hammered to death along with his criminal troops. Putin appears weak that he couldn't take care of his own mercs. Just an observation though.
