Democracy or Autocracy?

What is happening in our country to the belief/idea that we are a representative democracy, and that a democracy is better than being governed by an authoritarian autocrat?

Teri Kanefield does a very good job of explaining the difference between the two, and shows how powerful the divide is becoming in our country and in the rest of the world as well. Well worth reading:

Teri Kanefield's piece should be required reading for the likes of HtS and olde dude who mistakenly believe that the attendance at a political rally by "average" people is indicative of an ideal democratic form of government.

    pb read it.

What I know is that it's our side that lifts up the Bill of Rights and spent the whole pandemic resisting autocratic Blue State governors and our mandate mad President. We're fighting for freedom, democracy and individual liberty.

Seems to me that it's you Blue MAGAs need to take the article to heart.

HtS, show me where your side cares about constitutional protections (including the Bill of Rights) other than the Second Amendment.

Btw, there is no constitional right to infect the public with a serious disease.

C'mon man, gimme a break. Just off the top. How many times did the Supreme Court overturn Big Brother restrictions on Freedom of Worship?

How many times did our side have to sue Big Bro Joe over mandates restricting how private business functioned during the pandemic!!!!!?

How many times here did you write, "But pb, but pb, rights are not absolute!!!!!"

I gotta say that, as I was reading the article, I was fist pumping and shouting, "Amen," trying to figure out who you think you are preaching to.

The essence of progressivism is authoritarian control. The essence of libertarianism is, uh, liberty!

    HtS,
You are deluding yourself if you believe that you are libertarian.

For example, libertarians would not restrict immigration or foreign imports. Complaining about immigrants, who according to Trump are "bringing drugs...they’re bringing crime...they're rapists...and some, I assume, are good people", and "job stealing" imports are common complaints among Trump supporters.

I'm certain that the only opinion that I've expressed about immigration here is that our very own "feckless dementia-ridden piece of crap" in the White House is making a mess of it.

    HtS,
So you favor open borders and oppose tariffs and other restrictions on imports. You better not say that too loud where you live.

Curt, as it happens Heather Cox Richardson posted a very insightful piece yesterday on Democracy VS Autocracy and why Democracy is imperiled right now.

By the way, with his disdain for the mask mandate, Hate is demonstrating his childish, at best, understanding of the difference between a Representative Democracy and an Autocratic form of government.

So you favor open borders and oppose tariffs and other restrictions on imports. You better not say that too loud where you live.

As I've said many times, I live in the midst of Amish country in Pennsylvania. I am surrounded by corn fields and drive around horses and buggies every time I'm on the road.

I think we need more enlightened immigration laws. But, at the moment, I'd be happy if the Dim-witted Doddering Old Fool in the White House would fulfill his oath of office and enforce law and work to change it.
