Sen. Marsha Blackburn asked the Supreme court nominee Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to define the word “woman”  without giving the context.

Is it really possible that Blackburn didn’t understand what Jackson meant when she said she couldn’t answer the question ‘in the biological context’ since she is not a biologist. A human, like any other species can be born a hermaphrodite and might vary a bit more toward one sex or the other on a spectrum. Do you know how to determine at what point on that biological spectrum such a person could be defined as a woman?

The answer to Blackburn’s question is not as clear cut as Blackburn imagines it to be, to understand why requires the ability to hold a complex thought and for some that can be difficult.

Even a person born with what is unmistakably a biological male or female body can “inwardly” know that is not who or what they are.

In that case should society demand that those persons live their lives un-authentically? That is the real question Blackburn was getting at.

I don’t doubt that Blackburn thinks she (and we) should be able to demand that such people CANNOT live their lives authentically. The question I’d like to ask Blackburn is “Why” ? Why “under these particular circumstances” does Blackburn want to have the right to exercise such power over another person who is not a danger to her or anyone else?

How would Kierkegaard answer the question?...Kierkegaard was of course speaking about how one must live authentically to be a Christian, but some philosophers have taken it to mean how “we” all should authentically live our lives...As long as it is not harmful to others, I basically agree with him. It’s what transgenders are doing.

    C'mon, man, gimme a break!

A woman nominated for a seat on the Supreme Court is being interviewed by the Senate committee tasked with recommending her, or not, for confirmation by the Senate.

And, you think Blackburn needed to explain the context. Right. Bahahahahahahahahahaha. What could the context be.

So, the darkie woman needs to have her hand held and to have her meal cut into little pieces so she can eat it without choking. That seems to be what you are saying.

This is a nominee for a seat on the highest court in the land.

  2. by Donna on March 23, 2022 9:42 am
What's the broad context here? Why is a Supreme Court Justice nominee being asked such a question? Do some Republicans want to outlaw me?

  3. by HatetheSwamp on March 23, 2022 10:08 am

Do some Republicans want to outlaw me?

    C'mon, man, gimme a break.

But, you're being absurd if you think the last Supreme Court case on this issue has been litigated.

I'm sure you know Kristi Noem has signed an anti transgender athlete ban.

Despite the protestations of the woke mafia, Blackburn's question was, probably, the most relevant and meaningful of the day.

”What's the broad context here? Why is a Supreme Court Justice nominee being asked such a question?”

I think we all know why she asked the question. The Trump conservative base does not want transgenders to have the rights guaranteed them under the 5th and 14th amendments. They never wanted gays or lesbians to be guaranteed those rights either, and they still don’t like the fact that that gays and Lesbians, just like any other American citizen, do indeed have the same rights as they do, they especially don't like that they right to marry.

Blackburn was hoping Jackson would somehow give an answer that Blackburn could use against her to the pleasure of Trump’s base. Instead, Jackson answered the question asked quite honestly. I doubt Blackburn was then or is now very happy about that!

What the GOPs learned from 2018 is that the Dem were positioned for a huuuuuuuuuge electoral victory...which they achieved in the House.

However, after their failed attempted lynching of Brett Kavanaugh, the size of the GOP majority actually tripled in the Senate, in spite the fact that the deck was stacked for the Dems.

So, the GOPs have done some grandstanding on the issue of her light sentences for child sexual abusers. But, in the end, the GOPs will quietly stand aside and let KBJ move on to the Supreme Court. Some will even vote for her.

"...the size of the GOP majority actually tripled in the Senate," - Hts

It did? I thought the US Senate was 50/50.

  8. by HatetheSwamp on March 23, 2022 3:05 pm

After the 2018 election, I think the GOPs had a 53-47 majority.

  9. by Donna on March 23, 2022 3:24 pm
Right. The Republicans went from a 2-seat to a 6-seat majority. But then in 2020, the breakdown became 50/50.

  10. by HatetheSwamp on March 23, 2022 3:35 pm

    Precisely.

  11. by Curt_Anderson on March 23, 2022 5:55 pm
    HtS,
Since you wrote "c'mon, man, gimme a break!", I assume you have the ability to answer the question implied in the headline definitively. I admit I don't know the definition.

Answer these questions about the definition of a woman:
At what age is a human female defined as a woman? 21, 18, 13, 12, other?

Can a female be a woman and a minor at the same time?

If a male is transitioning to become female, at what point are they a female and no longer a male? And vice versa?

Is the ability to conceive a child integral to being a woman?

Unlike Ketanji Brown Jackson you can take the time to search the Internet or call a friend for the answers.

  12. by HatetheSwamp on March 24, 2022 4:56 am

Unlike Ketanji Brown Jackson you can take the time to search the Internet or call a friend for the answers.

You Blue MAGAs have become so smart,..
so enlightened...that you now need Google and a confab to come up with an answer to the question of what a woman is.

On Main Street in America, ERs are filled with people who need emergency surgery because, when they rolled their eyes up into the head, their eyes got stuck.

    Bahahahahahahahahahaha!

    Just think about that!

Our soon to be new Associate Justice of the Supreme Court can't splain what a woman is.

Remember Vizzini from THE PRINCESS BRIDE?

We laughed at him. We're laughing at you.

    Amazing!

  13. by Curt_Anderson on March 24, 2022 8:42 am
    HtS,
So you can't answer a question that you yourself deemed simple. I am not surprised. Why is it that the less you're able to answer a question the longer your response?

Do you want to try to define what a woman is with the less long-winded response?

  14. by islander on March 24, 2022 9:00 am
    Curt,

LoL !! Why aren't you getting an answer?

Did you ever hear the old salesman’s solution to the problem of; “What do you say to a potential customer who asks you a question that you either can’t or don’t want to answer?”...”You just baffle them with bullsh!t”

  15. by HatetheSwamp on March 24, 2022 10:12 am

Do you want to try to define what a woman is with the less long-winded response?

My definition is a simple one but the real story here is that you Blue MAGAs seem to think that your nominee for this Supreme Court seat not knowing what a woman is, is reasonable and acceptable.

It's amazing, as sophisticated and sagacious as you think you are, how little that is kindergarten level you have thought yourself out of knowing.

  16. by Curt_Anderson on March 24, 2022 10:26 am
"My definition is a simple one..." -HtS

You haven't told us yet. Does this mean you are ready to answer the questions which I posed in comment #11 above and define woman?

If you don't know some or any of the answers just say so. We'll understand.

  17. by HatetheSwamp on March 24, 2022 10:35 am

Having reviewed your Pulizer level questions, I think that you are presuming waaaaaaaaaay too much.

  18. by Curt_Anderson on March 24, 2022 10:45 am
    HtS,
Given all the time you needed, you can't define the word "woman". Why would you think that a judge, a job that demands thoughtful deliberation, should quickly spout off an answer without knowing the context?

Marsha Blackburn asked a stupid question that impresses stupid people.

  19. by HatetheSwamp on March 24, 2022 11:02 am

    Here's the thing.

In the course of this dialog, both isle and Donna instantly...spontaneously...articulately provided an answer to Blackburn's question. Right here.

Do you think, even for a moment, that Ketanji Brown Jackson had no answer to the question!!!!!

I think we both know she could have. She doesn't have the, uh, stones.

    We both know that, too.

"In the course of this dialog, both isle and Donna instantly...spontaneously...articulately provided an answer to Blackburn's question. Right here."

No, Islander and Donna did not provide an answer to Blackburn's question.

BLackburn said, "this is a simple question that requires a simple answer."

Blackburn really meant this is a simple-minded question and I want a simple-minded answer.

  22. by Donna on March 24, 2022 11:34 am
Here's how I responded to Ms. Blackburn's question, "What is a woman?":

"Legally I'm female. Chromosomally I'm male. From a societal standpoint, I'm a woman. I would guess that some people who know my background wouldn't consider me a woman. So it's more complicated than some people are making it."

    To which Hts replied,

"It seems to me that it is very complicated and that we all have a long way to go in figuring it all out."

    And then I added,

"...Ms. Blackburn asked a question that doesn't have a definitive answer, which Blackburn and others seem to be demanding from Judge Jackson."

So neither Hts nor I were able to answer Ms. Blackburn's question.

  23. by Curt_Anderson on March 24, 2022 11:40 am
    HtS,
Don't you realize that your are on Team Stupid?

The supposed "right" answer to the babylonbee.com quiz is "An adult human female". So what is age is adulthood? That reflects the first question that I asked you above. I asked when a girl becomes a woman: Is it 21, 18, 13, 12 or other? Does babylonbee.com mean adult in a biological sense? Or maybe they mean legally?

Even is a legal sense, there isn't a consistent answer. The legal age of womanhood apparently differs from state to state. A female can legally marry at age 12 in Mississippi for example. Does 16, the age of the legal sexual consent in most places in the US mean a female is an adult hence a woman? Drinking ages differ from state to state. Voting ages differ from nation to nation.

  24. by HatetheSwamp on March 24, 2022 11:43 am

No, Donna, you did answer the question. Will your response settle all debate? Of course not. But, you absolutely answered the question...

...something that Ketanji Brown Jackson refused to do.

KBJ is being criticized for dodging the question.

There can be no doubt that she will be required to answer the question in the future as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court. The criticism of her dodge is justified.

  25. by Donna on March 24, 2022 11:47 am
I responded to Blackburn's question as did you, but neither of us were able to answer her question "What is a woman?"

  26. by HatetheSwamp on March 24, 2022 11:47 am

    HtS,
Don't you realize that your are on Team Stupid?

    World-class reply, Curt.

In those few words you managed to express both the sanctimony and humorlessness of the woke left.

    Well done.

My nomination for SS post of the year!

    HtS,
I call as I see them. No point in beating around the bush.

It's not stupid to not answer an ill-defined question. It's stupid to insist there is an answer to an ill-defined question. Extra stupid points for insisting you and others answered that question when you or they obviously have not.

An aforementioned leading member of Team Stupid struck again today.

Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) tried to cite the U.S. Constitution on Twitter on Wednesday.

    It didn’t go well.

    Blackburn wrote:
The Constitution grants us rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness – not abortions.

Just one problem: The iconic line appears nowhere in the U.S. Constitution. As most students learn in fifth-grade social studies, it’s in the Declaration of Independence.

Blackburn has something of a history of constitutional screwups. Last year, she vowed: “We will never rewrite the Constitution of the United States,” seemingly ignoring the 27 times it’s been amended. Blackburn even co-sponsored resolutions in support of three potential amendments.

    Curt, Re: Marsha Blackburn

She's a dizzy chick. No doubt.

    But, here's the thing. Bahahahahahahahahahaha.

In the most prominent sound bite from the hearings, Marsha Blackburn turned Ketanji Brown Jackson into a stammering idiot who brought the doddering old fool to mind.
