Alexander Smirnov: FBI source accused of Biden lies 'linked to Russian intelligence'

An ex-FBI informant accused of lying about President Joe Biden and his son Hunter has high-level ties with Russian intelligence, US prosecutors say.

The allegations against Alexander Smirnov, 43, were outlined in new Department of Justice filings in the case on Tuesday.

Mr Smirnov is accused of lying when he claimed bribes were paid to the Bidens via a Ukrainian energy firm, Burisma.

He was charged last week with giving false statements to the FBI.

"Smirnov" was not a tip-off to our crack "intel" guys. 😂

    Indy,
All the people who have discounted the possibility that Russians gave Trump's election campaigns a "helping hand" weren't tipped off by the fact that Trump's legal advisor and political strategist is named Boris Epshteyn. Or that Trump has campaign fundraisers named Lev Parnas and Igor Fruman.

    Nothing suspicious there!

Judge Daniel Albregts was nominated by Trump in 2019. Coincidence?

Alexander Smirnov, accused perjurer in Hunter Biden case, deemed a flight risk by prosecutors but judge releases him.
A federal judge in Las Vegas on Tuesday ordered the release of an FBI informant charged with lying to officials about an alleged multimillion-dollar bribery scheme involving President Joe Biden, his son Hunter and a Ukrainian energy company.

Alexander Smirnov, 43, who was arrested last week at Harry Reid International Airport, will remain under electronic monitoring while he awaits a hearing in California federal court on an indictment charging him with making a false statement to federal agents and creating a false and fictitious record.

In ordering Smirnov’s release, U.S. Magistrate Judge Daniel Albregts told him: “Do not make a mockery of me.”

Prosecutors argued Tuesday that Smirnov was a flight risk with ties to multiple foreign intelligence agencies, including Russia.

“There is a serious risk the defendant will flee and a serious risk the defendant will obstruct justice,” federal prosecutor Leo Wise said.

Russians will have no problems getting that ankle bracelet off Smirnov.

Or now that he is no longer useful---and maybe a liability---to the Russians, they will have no problem offing Smirnov.

Not really following things too close right now. Lots agoin' on. Lemme just do a quick check-in...

So the MAGA Hats' key star FBI informant guy lied to the FBI, was charged for it and held, it turns out the data he fed the FBI was generated by Putin's squad, and he's been released by a judge who has set himself up for becoming the biggest mockery he could have ever dared to fear...? Is that pretty much about it for now?

  8. by Curt_Anderson on February 21, 2024 5:36 pm
That's pretty much it, Ponderer. The only thing to add is that two weeks ago the now discredited informant was touted by the GOP as the key to their case. Now it's never mind, he wasn't important.

Also Jamie Raskin described the deposition today as being "subdued" and said the Republicans seemed to be "going through the motions". It's telling that none of the Republicans on the committee rushed out to talk to the news media.

I just heard how since the information comes from a foreign enemy attempting to corrupt our elections, any media sites that continue to support and promulgate the malarkey the informant flogged to the FBI could possibly find themselves criminally liable for aiding a hostile enemy in disrupting our elections.

Not that such media sites would give a damn anyways if they were or not.

So the MAGA Hats' key star FBI informant guy lied to the FBI,...

Baha, po. You're falling for the Rachel myth. That's sooooooo cute. Hahaha ha baha baha haha heehee ha!

The star witness(es) are those two IRS whistle-blowers, Bobulinski and Archer and, as you'd say, EFFINdocuments... some of which contain the Doddering Old Fool's own handwriting.

But, hey, bub. Keep a good thought.
