We watched him make the offer on live TV...

John Oliver to Clarence Thomas: Drive Away from SCOTUS in a New, $2.4 Million Motorcoach!

Last Week Tonight host offers the far-right Supreme Court justice $1 million a year for life to "get the fu*k off" the nation's high court

Comedian John Oliver is offering Clarence Thomas $1 million a year and a luxury motor coach to resign his post on the Supreme Court.

The wild — and Oliver claims, “somehow legal” — offer was made at the end of the 11th-season premiere of Last Week Tonight, the long-running HBO comedy series.

Oliver spent much of the show lampooning the corruption of the Supreme Court. Investigations over recent months — in particular, painstaking reporting by ProPublica — have revealed that conservative justices are living high on the hog thanks to the patronage of right-wing billionaires, many of whom have interests in cases that come before the nation’s highest court.

Thomas is not alone in accepting gifts. Justice Samuel Alito, for example, traveled to a luxury fishing lodge in Alaska with a controversial hedge fund executive, where he dined on king crab legs and quaffed $1,000 bottles of wine. Alito reportedly did not disclose the vacation — or the luxury private jet flight that took him back and forth from Alaska — as gifts.

But as Oliver detailed, Thomas is in a class by himself in accepting lavish perks, travel, and entertainment from billionaire patrons — including dozens of destination vacations and private jet flights, as well as myriad VIP passes to sporting events. Thomas reportedly accepted many of these gifts without disclosing them on annual filings, deeming them as personal hospitality among friends.

Thomas is also famously the owner of a 40-foot motorcoach — think a tour bus decked out as a luxury RV. But instead of purchasing the land-yacht on his own, Thomas reportedly took out a loan from another wealthy benefactor for the nearly quarter-million-dollar purchase price. As congressional documents have revealed, that individual collected interest payments from Thomas for a while, but eventually forgave the debt, effectively gifting the RV to Thomas. “Honestly it’s starting to feel like Thomas doesn’t so much have friends, so much as human ATMs,” Oliver snarked.

The HBO host then wondered aloud what it would be like if Thomas could enjoy the luxury lifestyle to which he so clearly aspires, without all the hard work of carrying water for billionaire interests on the Supreme Court. “Justice Thomas we have a special offer for you tonight,” Oliver said. “We are prepared to offer you $1 million a year — for the rest of your life — if you leave the Supreme Court immediately, and never come back!”

Oliver held up a legal contract and insisted, “This is not a joke! A million dollars a year until you — or I — die.” The host insisted that legal experts have assured him that under the ethics framework of the court (or lack thereof) the illicit-seeming offer was in fact legal. (Oliver added that HBO is not putting up the money, rather that, “I am personally on the hook.”)

So should he take it? He may not get a better offer....

Nice idea but he's probably getting that much from conservative benefactors to STAY on the bench along with all-expenses-paid vacations plus perks.

If the money isn't going directly in Clarence's bank account, it's going into Ginny's.

Y'know, po, ROLLING STONE is a place where thinking that rivals the wackiness of your own thrives.

What you wokesters won't do to demean an African American who refuses to be a good house nigg€r.

His race has nothing to with it. ProPublica reported on his unseemly friendships with wealthy patrons. I just wish Robin Leach were still around to describe Clarence Thomas' lifestyle.

Doing all the dirty work for billionaires? Seems to me he's an absolutely perfect house (whatever word that was supposed to be), Peebs. 🤔

  5. by Ponderer on February 19, 2024 7:34 pm

Yeah. It probably isn't a big enough offer to get him to feel secure enough to divorce his current Sugar Daddies for.

    Hey... I gotta idea...!

What if all the comedians hosting big network TV shows formed a consortium and all chipped in like John Oliver has...!!! NOW we're talking some real money he just couldn't pass up! That many rich comedians could actually pull it off!

Like how 'bout $8,000,000 or $10,000,000 a year... that motor coach... a 75' sailing yacht... and his very own Gulfstream G5 with full time pilot and stewardess services...!

Now I know... It may certainly not be enough to make him a billionaire. But he could certainly and quite easily live like one for the rest of my life on all that. And that's what's truly of premier importance to him anyways! Certainly not his honor, duty, or basic sense of human empathy for the American people who he has done so much to help fuckover for his Sugar Daddies.

I think that the man may very have already broken the record for the highest paid whore in the history of the world. I'm gonna do some research and get back with you folks about that... But I bet it's true.

So the racism of the left is extremely evident from the left. And they weren't even goaded into it. It's their natural state.

  7. by Ponderer on February 19, 2024 7:55 pm

olde dude, none of us have brought up or made any kind of issue about his race. Only you and Hate have. Quite racistly by the way. Thomas's race is absolutely irrelevant to the issue of the corruption he willfully wallows wantonly in.

Valiant effort though. We knew you were obligated to pull the race card. And you have. So, care to have a rational discussion about it now?

  8. by Ponderer on February 20, 2024 9:24 am

    Okay then. Well if not...

olde dude apparently would have us believe that it's racist to call attention to the corrupt lifestyle and career of Justice Thomas, and that we should actually give him a pass on his corruption like he does... because Thomas black.

olde dude apparently doesn't believe that he is racist because he is perfectly happy to ignore Justice Thomas's corruption just as he does any other Republican, even though Thomas is black. He does not differentiate in his unilateral acceptance of corrupt Republicans based on race, so he is therefore not a racist.

olde dude apparently believes that corrupt Republicans of color can not ever be accused of wrongdoing, regardless of the evidence, or else it's racism. Or he believes that black people are simply incapable of corruption. I guess he can elaborate...

    HtS,
You don’t think what? Explain the real meaning of “What you wokesters won't do to demean an African American who refuses to be a good house nigg€r.”

All you denizens of the woke, white electric limousine lovin progressive Swamp know is that Justice Thomas ain't content livin in the Swamp, smilin at all you white progressives and sayin, Yeah, massa. Yeah, massa."

Prime Minister Trudeau has been pilloried by the opposition here and some of the Press for a Christmas vacation in the Bahamas with free accommodation at the estate of an old family friend. He paid his family's fares, though.

In most democratic countries, those judges would have been kicked off the Court and had their licences to practise law cancelled. Quite likely imprisoned, too.

It would happen here too if the Supreme Clowns actually cared about the rule of law. And let's not forget the others because they are ALL dirty. The 6 Clowns picked by the GOP are far MORE corrupt - but they are all taking bribes at this point. A simple google brings up this...
