Impeachment is intended to address presidential abuse of office. It is designed to punish misconduct while in office not possible misdeeds before being inaugurated as president.

No accusations that devoted servants like HtS breathlessly report here has been about presidential high crimes and misdemeanors by President Biden while in office.

James Comer and his cohorts are supposedly outraged by Hunter Biden for doing what the Trumps do for living (capitalizing on their family name and making questionable money from foreigners). A president cannot be impeached for a relative's bad behavior even if that relative is convicted of a crime.

Comer has alleged Joe Biden took bribes while he was vice president. Even if proven, Biden was not in his current office.

OD and HtS with their usual fealty parrot the conservative media's misreporting of the corrupt prosecutor Viktor Shokin affair in which Joe Biden requested and obtained Shokin's dismissal. Even if Biden had done something wrong there, (he didn't) it happened years before Joe Biden was president.

The hapless House Republicans are focused on the wrong Biden and the wrong events which happened before Joe Biden was in the Oval Office. None of that is impeachment-worthy.

Of course Republicans hope that an impeach inquiry would damage Biden politically. They should learn from history. Their past efforts at impeachment have backfired. Just ask Newt Gingrich or Bob Livingston.

Two flaws in this checkmate move of yours, Curt.

One is that Joe continues to tell lies about Crime Family activities, even as President. He's definitely committed High Misdemeanors.

T'other? Congress decides what's impeachable. There's constitutional guidance. But, this is political, not criminal. There are no statutes.

As Indy repeats, Joe ain't being booted from office based on what even the right-wing media is reporting. But, there's probably already enuff known about "that feckless dementia-ridden piece of crap" to get the HouseGOPs to impeach. But, the Senate will spare his ancient derriere.

Curt, I don't think that the success of an attempt at impeachment isn't really what they are doing this for. I'm pretty sure that it's all about creating mud to sling at Biden closer to election time.

I can't wait for the first Trump ad to declare that Biden was impeached.

    "NO other president has
    ever been impeached as
much as me. No one. Believe me..."

"He's definitely committed High Misdemeanors." -Hate

And alls we have to do is wait for you to find evidence to back that up. It sure won't be long now I tell ya what!

    Not long at all.........

  4. by HatetheSwamp on August 30, 2023 11:43 am

    Not at all.

Alls that's necessary is for the HouseGOPs to declare that Joe committed impeachable acts, and to vote.

Pretty much like HouseDems did to Trump... EFFINtwice!

    HtS,
I doubt that you have any examples of Biden lying about his family's activities. But unless it was under oath, lying is not a crime. If lying were a crime, Donald Trump would be serving a life sentence. Also lucky for past presidents (especially Trump) lying is not an impeachable offense.

The old "you can indict a ham sandwich" axiom applies the House Republicans' impeachment efforts. But they are going to look pretty silly if they don't charge Biden with something he did while president. Worse than silly, more like vindictive and incompetent.

. But unless it was under oath, lying is not a crime.

    Ho-hum.

Impeachment is political, not criminal. I think I just noted that in another post.

Based on what even very purple GOP members of the House Oversight Committee are saying, it seems extremely likely to me that they have abundant evidence of Joe committing crimes but, because the AG and DOJ are politicized and corrupt, the GOPs are disregarding issues of criminality and are making a case for Impeachment. And, there's nuthin your progressive SwampMedia can do about it...other than to attempt to pretend it away. The GOP holds the House through 024. And, it'll use all of that time it needs.
