About a whole year ago already, I announced on SS that I support Ron DeSantis for President. I still do but I'm a little chagrined that DeSantis has veered further to the right than I am. Still, he's demonstrated that he can be effective running the Executive Branch of a government. Among all the candidates, I continue to think DeSantis would be the most effective President.

Having said that, pb thinks that it's at least 95% that Trump is the GOP nominee in 024. See link for the current betting line.

pb thinks that DeSantis is already running for 028.

OD has mentioned that he's backed off from Haley because she broke the 11th Commandment. DeSantis hasn't gotten close to that sort of violation. I'm convinced he won't. If you follow him, it's not hard to suspect that he's taken a long-term view of the campaign.

So, Trump will win the nomination. Whether he's elected or not, my guess is that he won't be a serious candidate in 028. Whoever Trump picks for Veep will be a serious candidate in 028, if not the frontrunner, and DeSantis will be there. If I'm not pushin daisies by then, I'll most likely be supporting DeSantis in 028.

So there.

They have odds for Tucker Carlson on that website. 😂

I'm not a betting man, but I would bet on Trump as long as he's not in jail. Then switch to DeSantis if by some miracle the Ds can actually put Trump away. Biden is a dead man walking - the Ds would be smart to tell him to get lost due to "health issues" or wanting to "spend more time with the family".

DeSantis would not be good at governing, btw. Even the Rs are tired of his schtick here. It’s all about him - nothing else.

Precisely, Indy!. The idea of that P.T. Barnum-wannabe governing nationally is the stuff of nightmares. At least Biden has been adept at the job. Democrats tend to at least know how to do the basic job they were elected to. The first thing that newly arrived GOP congress people seem to do is throw away all the rules and regulations and just wing everything. Actual experience at the actual job just equates to these people as "Being part of the Swamp!".

Incompetency is no hindrance to GOP voters anymore. In fact, I don't think anything ever could be a hindrance to them voting for any horrific GOP candidate. Rape, fraud, treason, election tampering, wife-beating, espionage... anything. Allegiance to The Party over the Constitution seems to be a prime requirement to be a MAGA Republican.

OD suggests he's popular in Florida. Has his approval tanked?

I have no idea what his approval is and the GOP tends to just fall in line on that stuff anyway. I just know all the people who were loving him before have soured on him basically since the Disney thing (which he’s going to get crushed on eventually).

All is a big three-letter word.

He managed to push some pretty radical legislation through the Florida legislature. He must still have some clout.

  10. by Indy! on June 18, 2023 6:24 pm
The legislature was Republican last time I checked - 85 to 35 seats(?). Pretty easy for a GOP guv to pass something, pb. If he was the superstar some (nationwide) Repubs seem to believe - I think he would be doing better against the recently indicted guy. He's a paper tiger.

  11. by HatetheSwamp on June 19, 2023 3:21 am

As I say, I think he's decided just to set the stage for 028. Jack Smith and Merrick Garland are fixin the GOP Primary for OrangeMan.
