Interestingly, Curt was just wondering about HouseGOP accomplishments. The big'ne'll come later, after much drama when impeachment votes are taken but, for now. Oh, and, my guess is that the metaphorical and literal Rachel will be all over this'ne.

The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which squeaked through on a 219-210 vote, typically passes with broad bipartisan support. This time, only a handful of Democrats crossed the aisle to side with the Republicans, citing the measures targeted at abortion (it would ban military aid that’s provided to members seeking to terminate a pregnancy in another state) LGBTQ people (it would ban the military from covering gender-affirming care) and diversity (it would eliminate the military’s chief diversity officer and ban some diversity initiatives).

I've been kind of watching this.
    1. Abortion. I'm not absolutely sure the military will do abortions and what the regulation will say on that. If they do, fine. If that's true, why cross state lines to do that?
First, care for members is free (the trade off is the doctors you get sometimes). Nursing and PA care is phenomenal. Many of them were med techs (enlisted), got their BSN (made them an officer) and a Nurse, then school again and PA. All on the government's dime, but they are really good. The military would really like the members to be on birth control and actually offer IUD's in basic. For a lot of women, this ensures that during a deployment, they're not menstruating.

Care for dependents. I have better care and more encompassing now than dependents in the military get. For less. The exception is overseas, where prices drop, but they have to go to military facilities for general care. They usually have to go to certain doctors (like a PPO), so that may be the issue.

    2. CRT- that violates every sensibility in the military. Since VietNam, it's been that you judge a person by their character and not by their skin color. Period. End of story. Introducing CRT only creates stupidity and fighting between people that are professionals at fighting.

    3. gender-affirming care. As I've said before, there's too much going on in a unit for this. One 18-old (biological female) National Guard member was forced to shower with a bunch of men that had just started transitioning. Ratio? 39:1. That's just wrong. It wasn't until she told her supervisor about it that it came out. Not sure where it was, but that's just stoopid. There's a "whole" lot more to learn than have to be unaware and thrown into that situation. stupidstupidstupid. So it seems that those folks went into the military for free transitioning. What a PITA for a supervisor and a commander to put up with along with all the other crap that's going on in a unit.
Next question on this. What happens for deployments? Do you "excuse" those transitioning? What about the rest of the unit when they've been training next to this person as an integral part of the team? In most if not all deployments, there aren't the facilities to manage those issues.

    OD,

You certainly have a real-world basis for understanding this stuff. Thanks.

I view nearly everything that comes up on SS from a big picture perspective.

What I see is that the House dealt a serious blow to woke hegemony. The demise of woke hegemony was the story of Pride Month. The woke agenda has to do with much more than the trans political agenda and trans ideology. That's what this bill is all about.

It'll be interesting to see how the Senate responds and then what comes out of conference.

But, I'll tell you what I think. Kevin McCarthy has done a surprisingly good job of Speaker but, when it comes down to it, he knows that he's the Freedom Caucus', as Rush used to say, B.I.-itch.

And, that's why I'm confident about the House holding impeachment hearings for Garland and Mayorkas and, ultimately, "that feckless dementia-ridden piece of crap."
