The president of the United States is authorized by the U.S. Constitution to grant a pardon for a federal crime. Convictions of state crimes, such as those that Trump faces in Georgia and New York, are not pardonable by a president.

A president probably cannot pardon himself. It's a complicated issue that would keep lawyers and constitutional scholars busy.

(The Hill)Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) said Thursday that if elected president, he will consider pardoning all the Jan. 6 defendants — including former President Trump — on his first day in office.

“On day one, I will have folks that will get together and look at all these cases, who people are victims of weaponization or political targeting, and we will be aggressive in issuing pardons,” DeSantis said on “The Clay Travis & Buck Sexton Show” podcast when asked about whether he will consider pardoning Jan. 6 defendants, including Trump, who is currently facing a federal investigation over his role on Jan. 6.

There's that, eh, Curt. I guess DeSantis just lost YOUR vote.

That I actually did hear (in my truck which doesn't have SXM). What he said was that he would look at ALL cases for political malfeasance, or technical legal issues first on an individual basis. Buck asked if that meant trumpster. Ron said they would look at all potentially political cases, both large and small, on a case by case basis to first look at legal and technical issues. Ron was trying to say his focus is with smaller profile cases that are politically motivated by this administration, but that would include them all.

So. I guess if you were a sheeple, you'd make that "ass umption."

    OD,
So the truth comes out. You will listen to DeSantis if you can. Nobody has ever broken a radio or TV broadcast because it had too many people tuning in.

DeSantis chose a medium for his launch that most people didn't know, couldn't access and that evidently was extremely fragile. These presidential announcements when done properly generate free TV commercials. Every TV station runs highlights clips of these announcements, if it is visual. The idea is have a patriotic backdrop populated with cheering supporters. DeSantis got none of that.

As for my "assumptions" I quoted DeSantis and linked to the article. I said DeSantis said he "might pardon Trump". If you read anything more into it, that's on you.

That's a "maybe." What you said was a statement. What he said was conjecture. You do this a lot, but only to conservatives, whom you hate with the "light of a thousand suns." You can use your weasel words elsewhere.

    Curt,

Face it. By now, many Americans understand that "that feckless dementia-ridden piece of crap's" string pullers are running a Banana Republic. If a GOP who cares about justice is elected s/he absolutely review the current administration's DOJ's oppression of the Dems' oppression of it's political opponents.
