As you know, I'm not a fan of institutionalized Christianity but I'm reeeeeeeeeeeally not a fan of Big Brother clamping down on the liberties guaranteed to Americans by the Bill of Rights...

...and, of course, the first liberties mentioned in the Bill of Rights pertain to the freedom of religion.

I'm thinking that this will be decided by the Supreme Court. And, I'm guessing that the church will win and Big Brother will lose. Just a guess.

A judge says a California church that defied safety regulations during the COVID-19 pandemic by holding large, unmasked religious services must pay $1.2 million in fines

Calvary Chapel in San Jose was fined last week for ignoring Santa Clara County's mask-wearing rules between November 2020 and June 2021.

...the church, which has a 600 person capacity, did shut down in March of 2020. It reopened on May 31, 2020 with no capacity limitation, which the county mandated at the time. The church and its leadership were then found in contempt of court and were fined for violation of limitations on indoor public gatherings. That decision was later reversed by a state appellate court, which noted that the policies were more strict for religious services during Covid than secular institutions such as grocery stores.

As po has made clear here AGAIN recently, progressives despise basic American liberties. But, the First Amendment seems to have meaning with this Supreme Court.

This ain't a good time in America to side viscerally with Big Brother.

We'll see.

Aw Big Woop! They can just deduct it from their taxes as a write-off. 😁

So it's not enough that churches are exempt from paying taxes? They should also be exempt from having to obey laws and regulations, while helping to further inflame societal emergencies that additional taxes the rest of us have to pay will have to combat?

Actually, po. I suffer from from vertigo periodically. I had to grab some of my medication when I read your post...

    ...I partially agree. Oy.

I've threaded here about my belief that churches should be taxed.

Still, the Framers of our government created, as our first liberty, religious freedom. You know that I can't agree with you on restricting any freedom, particularly the first of them all.
