Can you understand that people who are not woke find these two stories a source of amusement? More dangerously, a reason to ridicule trans people and, more generally, LGBT people?

I wonder, honestly, how you feel about the New Jersey story.

My sense, from observing Pride month, is that un-woke people, including those who are under the LGBT umbrella, are backlashing against the sort of woke thinking represented in these two stories...

...and, that a tide is turning.

I'm seeing the potential for an increase in anti-trans hate crimes...anti-LGBT crimesm

Honestly, sincerely. What are you thinking? More importantly, what are you experiencing?

    If a female transgender still has intact male genitals then that person should not be housed with females. This seems to me to make common sense just as not allowing female transgenders to compete with females in certain sports.

    IMO that's nuts. If you have a penis, you shouldn't be incarcerated with ciswomen or post-op transwomen - period.

    Professors are objecting to identifying ancient human remains by biological gender because they cannot gauge how a person identified at that the time. Others are objecting to identifying race as a practice because it fuels white supremacy.

    But this example is extreme.

    What this points to is the absolute truth that Marsha Blackburn's question to Ketanji Brown Jackson, "What is a woman?" is a question that needs to be answered morally and ethically and, especially, legally. It is appropriate and relevant. No doubt, she'll be compelled, as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, to answer the question.

    One way to understand the New Jersey story is that that state has a bad answer to what turns out to be an important question.

    Yeah, we went over that, I guess longer ago than your memory goes. I told you that I was born biologically male, that I'm a post-op transsexual, and that all of my legal papers including my birth certificate say I'm female, which makes me legally a woman. You didn't comment. So obviously the question, "What is a woman" isn't as cut and dried as you want it to be.

    Not at all. You seem to be grounded about stuff like this as much as anyone I've encountered.

    I sensed, during Pride month, a backlash that's not only from Christian fundamentalists.

    This is a complex issue which, for a variety of reasons, has no historical precedent.

    My Kaleigh McEnany post was in humor but my assertion that Marsha Blackburn's question to Judge Jackson in insightful was perfectly earnest and entirely sincere.

    We are in for a long haul and you're close to the center of the trail we'll be treading.
