I have never been a fan of Glenn Greenwald who I've dismissed as Russia's useful idiot long ago.

    I've been done with Glenn Greenwald for a long time now. Same with Chris Hedges. Sometimes I think people -- and not just journalists -- take positions that are contrary to the consensus just to satisfy their fan base. That's the new news and commentary model: keep feeding your fan base heaps upon heaps of the kind of commentary they respond most favorably to. What drives it is the profit motive.

    Just had a Memory from 8 years ago come back onto my Facebook page today. It was a picture I took of Donna with Greenwald having him sign a book she brought with us to a talk he gave in L.A. about Snowden.

    Along the lines of your observation, the internet has turned journalism upside down. Fifty years ago I was taught in my journalism courses to write articles in an "inverted pyramid". That is the big, important stuff in the first paragraph or two: the who, what, where, why and how. The lesser stuff as the story goes on. The reason then was that the layout editor often needed to clip off the bottom of the story to make it fit on the printed page.

    Of course, being online, the length of a story doesn't matter anymore. In fact, news sites want the readers to wade through their articles because they get more ad exposure so they are burying the main points deep into the story.

    Curt-
    I wholeheartedly agree with your assessment. Two commanders that we know of have been shot for their duties or their inability to analyze (or actually tell Putin) the situation.

    Although I'm conservative and a libertarian, I agree with giving aid. In the strategic view, this will pay off huge in 5 years. I have a Russian daughter in law, she has family in Ukraine. It's really hard for her to see the unilateral invasion, and is really scared about her brothers being called up as reserves. I also understand the US ex-military going in to help Ukrainians. They're a people that are actually picking up guns and dying. It's worth fighting for.

    Last thing. My guess is that taking over Ukraine would be like taking over the US. Lots of people with guns that actually know how to run a guerilla war on a national level and have the weapons to support it. I also think it's funny the eastern euro Muslims have taken to the fight.
