I miss the days when principled, decent Republicans weren't a miniscule minority. Larry Hogan is the last of dying breed.

(The Hill)Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan (R) on Sunday said former President Trump asking Russian President Vladimir Putin for damaging information on President Biden’s son, Hunter, is “the worst possible thing you can do” and “completely unacceptable.”

Trump made headlines this past week when, in an interview, he called on Putin to release damaging information on Hunter Biden and his potential business efforts in Russia.

Asked about the comments by co-anchor Dana Bash on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Hogan said Trump’s remarks represent “just more of the same,” but noted that the remarks are particularly bad now because of Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine.

I spent the first 28 years of my life in Maryland and stay in contact on Facebook with many of my old friend and acquaintances. For a Republican, Governor Hogan ain't too shabby.

FDR never appealed to Hitler for dirt on Wendell Willkie, his third term election opponent.

Political trivia: Willkie who was ten years younger than Roosevelt probably seemed to many voters as a younger, healthier alternative. Willkie died in October of 1944. FDR died a half year later at the start of his fourth term.

Willkie's 1940 running mate, Senator Charles McNary of Oregon, died eight months before him, on February 25. It was the first, and to date, the only time both members of a major-party presidential ticket died during the term for which they sought election. Had they been elected, the Presidential Succession Act of 1886 would have been invoked upon Willkie's death, and his Secretary of State would have been sworn in as acting president for the remainder of the term ending on January 20, 1945.
