From the Washington Examiner:

Right now, senators have a moral obligation to think very carefully about President Joe Biden's new Supreme Court nominee, Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, and her record in handling defendants convicted of crimes against children.

Jackson once served on the U.S. Sentencing Commission, where she advocated the abolition of mandatory minimum sentences for those caught with child pornography. Even before that, she had supported freeing such convicts from the obligation to register as sex offenders once freed from prison.

Jackson's thinking on this topic is that such potentially lifelong punishments are just examples of "stigmatization" and "revenge" against those who harm children. But this is at least 20 years behind the current thinking on this topic. The Catholic Church learned the hard way, through its own shameful child-sex scandals, that the rehabilitation of such offenders is simply impossible. And the church's belated application of that lesson (among others) has been highly effective in curbing new abuse cases.

The question that senators need to be asking right now is whether this moment, with the nation suffering from its leaders' general softness on crime and amid an organized effort to mainstream the sexualization of children, is the correct moment to send someone with Jackson's record to the Supreme Court. At the very least, Jackson needs to be asked about her puzzling and disturbing positions with respect to this timely issue.

Admittedly, that's the Washington Examiner.

Two days ago, Missouri Senator Josh Hawley noted that he's found an “alarming pattern” in Jackson’s treatment of sex offenders.

What I think is noteworthy is that the Blue MAGA SwampMedia pounced immediately.

MSNBC: "Hawley channels QAnon with attack on Ketanji Brown Jackson"

Vox: "Josh Hawley’s latest attack on Ketanji Brown Jackson is genuinely nauseating"

CNN: "GOP senators push misleading portrayal of Ketanji Brown Jackson's record on child porn cases"

And, this is the tip of a humongo iceberg.

Two thoughts:

The rapidity of the Blue MAGA response to Hawley tells a story. The Flatulent Fool's team already knew that she's vulnerable on this issue...but they nominated her anyway.

Also, the ferocity of the Blue SwampMedia's attack on anyone who'd even raise the issue makes me suspect that Ketanji Brown Jackson's confirmation may already be threatened.

pb himself had been inclined to think that Brown Jackson should be confirmed. No matter how tainted the victory of the Flatulent Fool may be, he's President. He has the right to put a qualified candidate on the Court.

pb expected that Brown Jackson would get all of the Dems' votes for confirmation plus fair-minded GOPs Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, Mitt Romney and others.

Now, pb wonders.

Fair-minded GOP Ben Sasse...who voted for the OrangeMan's impeachment...was a guest today on Fox News Sunday. He's one of the GOPs pb assumed would vote to confirm Brown Jackson’s nomination. He was asked if he would vote in the affirmative. He declined to say that he would. My sense is that he's going to be cautious now that Judge Brown Jackson’s record is being questioned on such so sensitive an issue.

Initially, pb expected that Brown Jackson would receive 57ish votes for confirmation.

Now?

We know that there are two Senate Dems who don't drink the Kool-aid...

...AND, how many Senate Dems are up in 022 when everything is trending GOP? Fourteen?

As of now, pb thinks it could go either way. 57 for, or 57 against...

...though if key Dems back away, my guess is that Judge Brown Jackson will withdraw from consideration.

Were I betting 57 for or 57 against, I'd put my house on for.
