Pence says Trump was wrong when he claimed the vice president could have overturned the 2020 election

The former vice president pushed back on the false claim that he had the power to change the outcome of the election.

(Washington Post)Former vice president Mike Pence said former president Donald Trump was “wrong” in claiming that Pence could have overturned the results of the 2020 election when he presided over the congressional affirmation of Joe Biden’s electoral college win.

“This week, our former president said I had the right to ‘overturn the election.' President Trump is wrong,” Pence said Friday. “I had no right to overturn the election.”

“Whatever the future holds, I know we did our duty that day,” Pence said Friday. “John Quincy Adams reminds us: duty is ours, results are God’s. The truth is there’s more at stake than our party or political fortunes. Men and women, if we lose faith in the Constitution, we won’t just lose elections. We’ll lose our country.”

Pence said the presidency belongs to the American people, and the American people alone, and appeared to suggest that calls for him to overturn the results of the election were “un-American.“ "Frankly there is almost no idea more un-American than the notion that any one person could choose the American President,” Pence said.

Your attacks on Biden are either untrue or irrelevant. For example, you and Republicans attack him on the price of gas (even though nobody would holler "socialism!" louder if a Democratic president controlled the price of gas than Republicans). Or you complain that Chinese made goods are out-of-stock at Walmart as if Covid didn't impact world trade and the supply chain. by HatetheSwamp on February 5, 2022 2:07 pm What I've said about the Flatulent Fool and oil prices is that gas prices are rising on his watch and the President is always blamed and that he's providing no leadership at all, promising, initially, that the rise in prices would be transitory and diminishing the impact on the typical American family. As is true of some people suffering from dementia, he's revealing that he's incapable of compassion. He's being blamed for rising gas prices and he will be because people don't believe he cares and, increasingly, that he's incompetent. As far as the supply chain is concerned, "that feckless dementia-ridden piece of crap" proclaimed himself to be the man who saved Christmas because many packages were in the mail. Baha. If he saved Christmas, why can't he save my paper plates and pasta or get me the Walmart thin crust pizza I like? What can't Father Christmas fill shelves at my local supermarket? The man's incompetent and, as time passes, Americans will continue to conclude that he's inept and he'll be blamed, in time, for dirty dishes. How much he's blamable will always be debated.
