    Democracy Now! seemed to indicate that Obama stated a falsehood when he said that drone strikes were the most accurate form of warfare (or words to that effect).

    It's not a contradiction to say that drone strikes are more accurate then past forms of warfare but that the level of civilian casualties is unacceptable.

    The percent of civilian casualties in World War I, World War II and the Korean War was in the 60 to 67% neighborhood. Civilian casualties in drone strike wars is in the 15 to 20% range.

    From what I gleaned from The New York Times article the problem stems from faulty intelligence.

    Amy Goodman simply quoted Obama. She didn't say or even imply it was a falsehood.

    Amy Goodman immediately prefaced the Obama clip with this statement.


    New York Times reporter Azmat Khan writes, quote, “The documents lay bare how the air war has been marked by deeply flawed intelligence, rushed and often imprecise targeting, and the deaths of thousands of innocent civilians, many of them children.”

    The reports directly contradict public claims made by successive U.S. presidents and military leaders. In 2016, then-President Obama claimed the U.S. was waging the most precise air campaign in history.


    A reasonable reading of what Democracy Now! aired would be to conclude she was saying that the New York Times reporter was right therefore Obama was wrong. As I said above it's not a contradiction.
