Joe Biden is the presumptive nominee. Bernie Sanders was clobbered again tonight.
If Sanders were to battle it out until the bitter end, he would need to win every upcoming primary election by implausible numbers averaging around 60%. Even if he could eke a nomination victory, with the greatest turnaround in US political history, that would leave Sanders weakened and exhausted before for the general election. Trump in the meantime is amassing political contributions for the general election. Sanders can't campaign with his usual rallies in hopes of attracting the much vaunted (but insufficiently materialized) youth vote. Facing that reality, Sanders will never be a better bargaining position with Joe Biden to make demands including inserting his goals into the party platform.
A criminal defendant's best chance for a plea deal is early on in the process, before the trial starts. The defendant can't make a successful deal at the last minute while the jury is making their final decision. The prosecution and the judge are more amenable to plea deal before conducting a costly trial.
Biden, likewise would be eager to avoid a costly campaign through the remaining primary states. Biden would prefer to prepare and save resources for the general election. In case of the Democratic primaries, the American people have rendered their decision.
Bernie, make the deal!
