They're using a combination of multiple looping, all done on the fly, while playing microtonal melodies that require the guitarist to use a custom-made double-neck guitar and bass combo with special microtonal fretboards. Look at them closely.

And we're really getting a kick out of watching music critics and analysts watch them for the first time because their whole viewership has blown up over these guys. The more knowledgeable they are on the details of music, the more blown away they are by the shear novelty and incredible skill required to do what they are doing. Same with guitar virtuosos - Just ask Jeff Beck, Joe Satriani or Steve Vai. Don't know if you remember, but I posted a video from a Japanese band on this board a while back. Donna dismissed it immediately. It was getting the same kind of attention from those music "reaction" experts for it's virtuosity on all the instruments and the way they had incorporated rock, classical, jazz and other elements into that one song (they actually do it in all their music). One of the videos we watched was of some famous drummer or something who was blown away by them and would totally beg to differ with you on that assertion, Indy! That drummer was purely brilliant. Music is a personal choice - I listen to an extremely wide variety of music and don't care if it's popular OR technically proficient. My only criteria is do I like it and want to hear more? I was merely answering to your point here... Pondy: I really think they are going to make some waves in the music world. And so far as some famous drummer being blown away - okay, great. The drummer is excellent too (I guess), but if you actually listen to just the music and put aside how complex or hard it is to play (and the costumes) - it's pretty mundane and repetitive imho. And when I brought up the other video I posted - it was the same thing - experienced musicians in the industry being blown away by the band's skills. That's why I call it music for guitar players (drummers too, I guess). It's a common thing - I've known a lot of players and they tend to love stuff that is hard to play because it appeals to their musical side. That's why you two are going on about how technical it is as opposed to how appealing it is. JMHO. Here's a cool band - read what it says in the description underneath.
