This was already called of course, and there were lots of defensive reasons, justifications, and excuses why it "wouldn't" happen. Yeah..... well it is now a "thing."
Two men from PA arrested are now facing federal charges after being arrested outside Gracie Mansion, the mayor's home, on Saturday, after an explosive device was ignited outside New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani's residence over the weekend was inspired by ISIS extremist messaging online. "I can confirm this morning that this is being investigated as an act of ISIS-inspired terrorism," New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said during a news conference Monday.
The two assholes were videoed and confirmed as 18-year-old Emir Balat and 19-year-old Ibrahim Kayumi from PA. They are each being charged with five counts, including attempted support to a designated foreign terrorist organization; use of a weapon of mass destruction; and transportation of explosive materials, in federal district court. The charges can be seen on pdf.[1][2]
The devices were made of TATP, which is no surprise. It's made of Ammonia (NH3) and Hydroperoxide (H2O2). It's been used for a very long time as a favorite of terrorism. For ISIS, it's been used globally because it's easy to make. The fallback on TATP is that it's very unstable (usually like the person making it). Dynamite (TNT) is the standard for all explosives and has an "energy" (read blast) of 1.0. TATP isn't far off with 0.8 rated energy. With a little larger bomb, you get the same effect. These were wrapped with shrapnel and steel for the maximum lethality, although some of the bombs have used glass which are extremely hard to find in bodies and may kill you weeks after being declared "healthy."[3][4]
