Matthew 22:36-40 (KJV)

36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law?

37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

38 This is the first and great commandment.

39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

For the most part, these verses seem pretty straight forward. Except for verse 39. What in the world is that gobbledygook supposed to mean? Jesus usually spoke in such plain understandable language, but what are we supposed to make out of that? It's so open to any interpretation anyone might want to make of it!

Love your neighbor as you love yourself??? Well what if a person is a Masochist who loves slicing themselves? Are they supposed to go around slicing people? Why does Jesus start talking in code all of a sudden just for that one verse? It could mean anything from treating your neighbor as you treat yourself, to cheering on and supporting, defending, excusing, and championing an abominable genocide being perpetrated against your neighbors. Why couldn't Christ have just been clearer and more obvious about how he wanted His flock to behave instead of leaving them guessing like this?

Anyway, I thought this would be a good chance for our resident Christian seminarian to explain for us the actual meaning that Jesus was trying to convey to us all in that verse. I believe that these few verses are very near and dear to his heart. So he should have a very clear perspective on them that he will be happy to relate to us.

So, take it away, pedophile's bitch.....!

Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

So, let's try to break this down a little until pedophile's bitch can weigh in.

This verse seems to be some sort of puzzle centered around the concept of love. We all know what love is or at least have a basic idea of the emotion, so we should all have a good idea of love. It's a pretty big deal in our species. This quote seems to assume that we love ourselves, and that is a fair assumption. Self-love is a common positive human trait, but it can be bastardized into all manner of negative traits. But for the most part, I believe this is referring to a simple, basic self-love that any normal, average person would have.

The use of the word shalt, although archaic, is still understandable as an order. As if you don't have a choice about it. It's a commandment, in other words. So when it says that you (Thou) shalt love, you are being commanded to feel the emotion of love and all it entails towards: your neighbor (We'll get into what one of those is later as that is the most confusing part of the verse right there). But Jesus wanted to convey the important degree to which one was commanded to feel this emotion for their "neighbor" by comparing it to the love one certainly has for themselves. Which should be a lot.

So, if we are to take it all as logically as we can to this point, it seems to be conveying that we should treat our neighbors as well as we treat ourselves and our families. With the same level of caring and empathy that we would have for our own.

But see, here's the problematic part of that conclusion: It can't be that simple!

If it was, Christians who were living by the teachings of Christ would exhibit this tendency to a far greater degree than they do. When anyone mentioned "Christians", everyone would have the same kind and pleasant outlook about them, having judged them by their loving and Christ-ordained actions. A feeling about them that in the current world has been... lacking.

Some Christians even have what appears to be an entirely antithetical interpretation of these words. They are reading these verses from a completely different understanding of what love is or what a commandment is or what Jesus was trying to teach. It must be because these words mean something completely different to them, which doesn't make any logical sense!

And this is all due to the vague and amorphous code that Jesus chose to speak in for that one verse. It's obviously a very important teaching that Christ wanted to impart. It's just so sad that He couldn't have said it in a plainer, more comprehensible way.

This is why we need a professional.

    Take it away, pedophile's bitch.....!

Can't be a Christian or claim to believe in a universal god if you are a racist.

  3. by Ponderer on March 8, 2026 12:11 pm

"Can't be a Christian or claim to believe in a universal god if you are a racist." -Indy!

Now you see right there is the problem. Given the way you and I are interpreting the code that Jesus was using, it seems obvious that you couldn't be following this teaching of Jesus and feel racism towards your neighbor.

But shit-tons of Christians are able to read those words and interpret them as meaning that they can be racist and bigoted to their neighbor. They actually seem to act as if they have been commanded to be racist assholes to minorities of all sorts. It is my interpretation are to be considered "your neighbors" for purposes of Jesus's teachings. But a great deal of Christians apparently read something else into it.

  4. by Indy! on March 8, 2026 2:41 pm

They might be seeing the word "white" in-between the other two words. 🤔

  5. by myce on March 8, 2026 4:49 pm

I'd like to know about the original language from which this is translated. The English word "love" can have many meanings. I don't interpret it as emotion because emotions are not really something we control. But we can control how we act. I think in this context love is a verb that is similar to care, nurture or esteem.

But I hate myself, everyone and the world so I might have some trouble with love. I'm not sure whether or not I mean that ironically. Hate is a feeling that one learns in the world. The feeling cannot be controlled directly, but the action can. So "love your enemy" means to care, nurture or esteem despite the feeling of loathing. (If you must kill your enemy because this isn't heaven, then do it honorably to not cause needless suffering. This my commentary but I don't know if Jesus would agree.)

  6. by oldedude on March 8, 2026 6:52 pm
Of course, when you "cite" any one or two lines of the bible, you can make up anything you want. As the Bible was written, people lived very much in their own "barrio" so to speak. Kind of like how, say, NYC was about 30 years ago.

The "assumption" is they were other Jews. NOT romans unless they had converted. NOT others who were enemies of theirs. To those loyal to Christ, it was rare they would do business with the romans. Are they my "neighbor?" No. Especially those more Satanics trying to use Gods words and trying to mince them as Lucifer did during the 40 days in the desert, and in the Garden of Gethsemani. Should you say it was wrong of Christ to walk away from him?

  7. by Ponderer on March 8, 2026 7:34 pm

od, that certainly sounds like something that pedophile's bitch should be able to elaborate on.

  8. by Indy! on March 8, 2026 7:35 pm

So no business with the Romans translates to the actual meaning in the Bible?

    OR

Were the people of the time simply doing the same thing the GOP does today and hating everybody who's not the same as them which is against the Bible's teachings?

  9. by oldedude on March 9, 2026 5:10 am
It's actually taught if you're even semi learned in Christianity.
The bigger issue is to see Satan in it's many forms and the ability to NOT follow it and it's ruses to sway people away from Christ by their hatred.

"The bigger issue is to see Satan in it's many forms and the ability to NOT follow it and it's ruses to sway people away from Christ by their hatred." -olde dude

A bigger issue than what Jesus said was the greatest commandment...? And a bigger issue than what He said was the second greatest commandment...?

olde dude, do you have any reference to verses where this bigger issue you speak of is addressed in any more detail?

  11. by Ponderer on March 9, 2026 5:59 am

"The bigger issue is to see Satan in it's many forms" -olde dude

But rest assured that Donald Trump is in no way whatsoever one of those forms. Perish the thought!

Fortunately, Trump's many Christ-like qualities and innumerable charitable actions all cement him solidly on the side of God and Jesus. So, any suggestion as to any possible Satanic personification on his part are ludicrous in the extreme.

    🙄

"I'd like to know about the original language from which this is translated. The English word "love" can have many meanings."

    myce,

The Greek word is the verb of agape. It's a word English has trouble translating. It's the highest form of love in Greek. I had a college prof say,"It's love as God loves." It's the word Paul uses in 1 Corinthians 13, which the KJV translators chose to translate as "charity," presumably because agape describes action not emotion. Paul defines agape in 1 Corinthians 13 as a way of acting starting in verse 4.

    *****

    po,

In answer to your question, these verses mean that to be a Christian one must be woke,... just exactly as you already are.

  15. by Ponderer on March 9, 2026 8:26 am

"The Greek word is the verb of agape. It's a word English has trouble translating. It's the highest form of love in Greek. I had a college prof say,"It's love as God loves."" -pedophile's bitch

First, thanks for joining us, pedophile's bitch. Maybe now we'll get to the bottom of all this.

Okay, so then Jesus seems to be commanding His followers to love their neighbors in the same way that God loves everyone. It's Agape love. Not Philia, Eros, or familial love, but Agape: "Unconditional, selfless, and sacrificial love, often associated with God's love for humanity." Jesus seems to be saying that is how we are to love one another. It seems on the surface to be pretty clear, but apparently he must have meant something else.

So, where do all these other interpretations of what He meant come from? Can you explain for us how this verse actually means the opposite of what Jesus seemed to have been saying...? How He actually meant for us to support, defend, excuse, and champion the detriment of our neighbors?

How are so many Christians able to blow off the most important commandments coming directly from the very foundation of their religion? How does their apparent interpretation of this verse allow them to still be considered Christians?

pedophile's bitch, I'm only trying to figure out what justification you, as a Christian, have for acting in direct opposition to what Jesus commanded you, as a Christian, to do.

Since you won't just tell me what your justification is, I am having to bend over backwards to continue to give you the benefit of the doubt, to find the way where you can justifiably do the apparent exact opposite of what Jesus wants you to do and still be considered one of His followers.

Because I mean come on! You must have some sort of legitimate justification for what appears to be your wiping your reprobate ass with His teachings, pedophile's bitch.

  21. by myce on March 9, 2026 9:25 am

I think you're caught in a leg trap, Ponderer. Do you think HtS will wake up from his snoring, drooling slumber if you yell at him enough? Does it sate your hunger to insult him year after year, decade after decade? He will miss you if you ever come to your senses and realize it's a purgatory loop.

  22. by Ponderer on March 9, 2026 9:42 am

But myce, I'm not yelling. I am simply trying to get to the bottom of why he and so many other Christians like him feel that they are exempt from the the most important teachings of Christ.

I guess may have to resign myself to the probable reality that this is all part of some great reformation of the religion. To make it more in line with what Donald Trump and his cult's followers want. It's apparently no longer important what Jesus ever said or wanted of His flock. What's important now, today is what Donald Trump says and what he and his followers want.

Donald Trump is apparently the new Messiah. Donald Trump is the new Savior of Christianity. pedophile's bitch was onboard with it all from the very start.

  23. by Ponderer on March 9, 2026 9:45 am

It's actually the humblest thing I have ever seen from him that he isn't insisting that this new religion be named after him. He's still allowing Jesus to take the focus for him. That's something he never lets anyone do.

  24. by Ponderer on March 9, 2026 9:52 am

"Bahahahahahahahahahaha ha haha ha ha ha haha ha ha ha, ahhhhhhhh!" -pedophile's bitch

Well, if that's the way you feel about it, perhaps I have been going about this all wrong. Perhaps I am operating from a flawed foundation to begin with.

Perhaps pedophile's bitch is simply a reprobate Christian who doesn't give a fuck about violating Christ's commandments anymore. Maybe he doesn't even really believe in all this Jesus Christ stuff to begin with? Maybe he never did? Maybe Christianity was just a convenient career choice that he felt compelled to go into since the only other skill he had was bagging groceries...?

It's just so sad. As I have said many a time, I believe that Christianity is the best religion out there. But Christians like pedophile's bitch are making me rethink a lot about that opinion.

Gandhi was once asked what he thought about Christianity in the West. He replied, "I think it would be a great idea!"

Or was that democracy he was talking about...?

  25. by Ponderer on March 9, 2026 10:47 am

Oh wait... That's right. What he said was, “I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.”

Boy, did he hit the nail on the head or what?

  26. by HatetheSwamp on March 9, 2026 11:32 am

"Perhaps pedophile's bitch is simply a reprobate Christian..."

    Can't be. That's an oxymoron.

  27. by myce on March 9, 2026 11:38 am

Ponderer, in my opinion HtS seems to have the same pathology as my mother who literally drove me crazy. I think it is a dissociative issue which medical science is not attending to as I think it should. I also think some "trans" people are experiencing identity confusion as a result of dissociation. What I mean by dissociation is it is a natural defense mechanism which can save your life, but can also lead to connectivity problems with the brain and nervous system when it is habitual and especially if children are conditioned to dissociate to escape reality. For this reason I am also not entirely comfortable with "trans politics" because I think the scientists are missing this piece of information.

Now back to topic, Talarico said Constantine was the first Christian Nationalist. Authoritarianism, double-mindedness and betrayal are prominent in Christian myth and history. The authorities and spiritual forces of darkness that Jesus fought against came to lead the church he founded.

  28. by HatetheSwamp on March 9, 2026 11:51 am

"Ponderer, in my opinion HtS seems to have the same pathology as my mother who literally drove me crazy."

    A short drive, apparently.

"Ponderer, in my opinion HtS seems to have the same pathology as my mother who literally drove me crazy."

Uh, he's hardly the first. And, I agree.

It's Talarico's woke Christian Nationalism that offends ole pb.

  30. by Ponderer on March 9, 2026 1:09 pm

I don't understand how Talarico can be a Christian Nationalist when he speaks out directly against Christian Nationalism. Is it something like how some Christians speak out against and deny Christian tenets while still being Christians...?

  31. by HatetheSwamp on March 9, 2026 1:21 pm

"I don't understand how Talarico can be a Christian Nationalist when he speaks out directly against Christian Nationalism."

    Two possibilities:

    1. He's a hypocrite.
    2. He's a moron.

He definitely wants his political views based, for example, on his understanding of the biblical Creation Story and the Gospels' account of the birth of Jesus to become the law of the land. His views are woke. Nevertheless, that's pure Christian Nationalism.

He supports nonbinary policies and pro-choice abortion politics directly from the message of the Bible as he interprets it.

Is it only Christian Nationalism when conservatives want their interpretation of the Bible to be law? Noop.

  41. by myce on March 9, 2026 7:38 pm

I'm more interested in hearing Talarico's words than the lying commentator who lied about what he said and then probably lied some more.

But I don't think the Bible says God requested consent. Mary did give consent. In a non-canonical creation story, consent seems to be very important. Sophia fell and the Demiurge was created as a result of her act of creation without the consent of her partner or the One.

  42. by oldedude on March 9, 2026 8:14 pm
Okay (full stop). "sophia" doesn't actually have any references in the Bible according to the writer. Ergo. A bullshit writer with no backup. Done.[1]

"Demiurge". I tried that one also. Again. References to thought about the Bible without reference to Demiurge. That's a problem.

The "support" for this is said to be in Paul's letters to the Corinthians in 2 Corinthians 4:4[2]

Since the Scriptures testify that Christ is the God of this age and that He blinded Israel (in particular), how can II Corinthians 4:4 be applied to Satan simultaneously, especially in the absence of any biblical support?

This verse's interpretation has an intriguing history. It is far less important than correctly piecing together the Bible's consistent revelation, but it nonetheless sheds light on why translators have used “god” instead of “God.”[2]

Thusly, since Satan is still a figure (as far as the referencing to Genesis), then using god instead of God is a key to their making.

Therefore, either show me better evidence, or "MR "T" is more than referencing Satan. Meaning You're fucked.

And you can make that decision... just sayin...

OD, Christianity is a bigger umbrella than the authoritarian horse shit the religious right uses to torment people and support the interests of the Epstein class.

In contrast, Talarico brings "good news." I think HtS is underestimating the appeal of good news. It is economic populism in contrast to the oppression of uncontrolled capitalism. It is a welcome contrast to the idolatry, the money worship, and the cruelty and hate from the religious right.

As for the "hypocrisy" of we on the left, you need to go get your broken moral compass fixed.

No, myce. The power of belief in that so-called "good news" is as old as THE COMMUNIST MANIFESTO. The reason I'm "underestimating" Talarico and his "good news," is that he's preaching that gospel in Texas where even moderate Dems haven't won a statewide election this century. Why is it so impossible for you to explain how Talarico is supposedly a Christian Nationalist.

Look, I know how projection is a foundational aspect of being a flaming MAGA Hat like you are. But this doesn't make a lick of sense in any way whatsoever.

Why does saying that Christians are commanded in the Bible by Christ to follow His teachings qualify him as a "Christian Nationalist"?

And now, folks... watch as pedophile's bitch goes off on some irrelevant tangent about Rachel Maddow or Joe Biden or antisemitism or some such asinine obfuscation. Anything but an answer to my simple question.......

37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

38 This is the first and great commandment.

39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

On second thought, Epstein clients might have a fetish for pregnant girls so they wait for the babies to be born before killing them.

Starting at Numbers 11, the Bible has a prescription of deranged witchcraft to catch a cheating wife. It seems the priest uses an abortifacient for that purpose.

You are defending the ripping apart of your neighbors' families.

You are excusing the murdering of tens of thousands of innocent neighbor children and the genocide being conducted upon over a million Palestinian neighbors of yours in Gaza.

You are championing a man who is using literal Gestapo goon squad tactics to commit countless anti-constitutional crimes against tens of millions of your neighbors.

So how the Hell do you square that all up with your "Submissively" reaction towards Matthew 22:39, pedophile's bitch...?

  75. by myce on March 10, 2026 5:42 pm

I brought up Numbers 11 to highlight the cherry picking when people use the Bible to support political beliefs on abortion. In this case, the god is not only pro-abortion, but will perform the act himself as part of a magical ritual with "bitter water" to determine whether a wife is "guilty" of her jealous husband's suspicions.

  77. by myce on March 11, 2026 7:19 am

That is an odd question HtS. We have the world's most corrupt and dangerous psychopath criminals running the government, and your concern is about an actual follower of Christ and his messages of freedom and justice for the people. I would have preferred Crocket who delivers the same message in secular, but it doesn't matter. The left needs fighters, and I do not care if this fighter uses strange interpretations of the Bible to arrive on the side of justice and righteousness. My main concern is whether he is too MAGA or if he is compromised by our capitalist and/or Israeli oppressors.

  78. by HatetheSwamp on March 11, 2026 7:34 am

"We have the world's most corrupt and dangerous psychopath criminals running the government, and your concern is about an actual follower of Christ and his messages of freedom and justice for the people."

These aren't even the most corrupt and dangerous psychopath criminals running the government in my lifetime. As the song says, you, "Don't know much about history," eh, baha.

Why do you think my concern is about an actual follower of Jesus? It ain't. I actual believe in religious freedom... and, I practice it. I don't agree with White Bread's interpretation of the Bible but that's okay, too, for me.

What I object to is his Woke Christian Nationalism. And, I'm amused that Susie Wiles snookered Dems into nominating him, not Jazzy. And, while he'd be the Bee's Knees were he running in Massachusetts or Maryland, no Dem has won a statewide election in Texas this century and I'm certain that his chances of winning in November are slim, even if Iran becomes a quagmire.

But, I'm not concerned that he's serious about following Jesus.

"I brought up Numbers 11 to highlight the cherry picking when people use the Bible to support political beliefs..." -pedophile's bitch

Well, I brought up Matthew 22:36-40 to highlight how far cherry-picking MAGA Hat "Christians" have gone in their devotion to Trump to ignore the blatantly simple commandments of Jesus.

All this time, pedophile's bitch has been perfectly free to provide us with whatever cherry-picked verses he uses to ignore the blatantly obvious commandments of Jesus Christ. He seems to think that just because the most important of Jesus's commandments are perfectly in line with "woke", he doesn't have to acknowledge them because his MAGA Hat political beliefs demand that he doesn't. He seems to believe that the way he practices his Christianity in public is fine and dandy with the Big Guy. He thinks he is being a good example to the world of the message of hope that Christianity tries to bring to the world.

He and other MAGA Hat Christians like him ludicrously declare that America is a "Christian nation". While at the same time wiping their flaming hypocritical asses with Christian teachings. They are actually wiping this country's ass with Jesus's teachings. They're actively making this country about as "Christian" as pork chops are kosher. Such boundless, reprobate hypocrisy. All to placate a psychopathic megalomaniac who they have literally deified.

I have given pedophile's bitch every opportunity in the world to explain how his unchristian version of Christianity works. How he can consider himself to be a Christian while engaging in the most unchristian mob behavior going on in this country today. But pedophile's bitch has actually never presented a single Christian aspect of his existence the entire time he has been on this forum. It's been nothing but hate for his fellow humans and mendacious hypocrisy and disparaging those less fortunate than him and bearing false witness and laughing like a lunatic at the misfortunes of his neighbors.

It's like SelectSmart is pedophile's bitch's little secret sinful playground where he is exempt from having to follow anything that Christ commanded of him at all. He can be as big of an unchristian asshole as his bigotry demands that he be.

It's like this forum is pedophile's bitch's own little secret Epstein Island of unchristian behavior.

pedophile's bitch has never pointed out a single thing wrong with anything I have ever castigated him about on this subject. He has proven that he has no comeback whatsoever for any of it. He just throws off bullshit obfuscation about "woke" while attacking the messenger. He won't even tell us what he believes Matthew 22:36-40 is supposed to mean for fear that his cognizant dissonance will blow his head to bits. He consciously knows that he is commanded to react "submissively" to the teachings of Jesus, but I guess he'd just rather not.

He's even trying to help bring down someone who is observably one of the best examples of a fellow Christian of his in public life today, purely and specifically because this person is not an unchristian, flaming MAGA Hat like pedophile's bitch is and therefore must be destroyed.

pedophile's bitch's brethren declare this to be a Christian nation, but woe be upon they that actually try to act like a Christian in any way that conflicts with Orange Jesus's political depravities!

"So, is that fine with you if people use the Bible to justify woke or progressive political beliefs,... as it is, for example, with po?" -pedophile's bitch

For myself, I have been using the Bible this entire time to justify Christian beliefs that Christians are commanded by Jesus to follow as blatantly spelled out by Jesus Himself in the Bible by Matthew 22:36-40 and many other Bible verses. Christian scripture that MAGA Hat Christians like pedophile's bitch are actively and quite publicly wiping their asses with in service to their literal anti-Christian demigod.

It's the fact that these Christian beliefs are so in line with what "woke" is about that it is forcing a devout MAGA Hat like pedophile's bitch to actually violate his Christian dogma like it doesn't matter a damn to him.

pedophile's bitch makes fun of me doing that, yet he can't use any logic or scripture at all to actually contradict anything I have been saying. Hence all the obfuscation and subject changing. His cognizant dissonance must be shielded from such existentially inconvenient reality.

The all-important thing to pedophile's bitch is that he unwaveringly acts in all ways and in every instance in service to his actual Messiah: Donald J. Trump.

And if that happens to turn his former religion into toilet paper for him, so be it. It's now the new MAGA Hat Christianity® for pedophile's bitch or none at all.

I have felt for some time now that Trump and MAGA have been one big giant test for Christians in America. Any belief is practically meaningless until it is actually tested. And I believe that a great many people in this country who consider themselves to be Christians are getting an "F-" on this exam.

But again, pedophile's bitch is perfectly welcome to offer a counterpoint to this assessment of mine. He can explain how Trump's MAGA Cult and the "Christians" who belong to it are perfectly in line with Christianity as it has been observed for hundreds of years.

    But he won't. You watch.

On the scale of this forum, perhaps that is what I am trying to do, myce. Way back in the early days, I actually liked him. I thought he had a good head on his shoulders. We had some nice discussions in the old Philosophy forum here. But once MAGA came onto the scene, he seemed to have abandoned all rational thought in order to cleave to this new belief. A belief that on its surface was completely and totally at odds with any realistic interpretation of the Christian religion. I am just very curious how the mechanism of such an existential flip-flop could take place.

On a broader scale, I use pedophile's bitch as a touchstone... as a surrogate for all the MAGA Hat Christians in our government and the "Christians" who support them. Because none of the MAGA Hats I converse with in other forums can answer this simple question either and pedophile's bitch is simply the least idiotic one I've come across to deal with. Which says a lot about MAGA right there.

These "Christians" like pedophile's bitch know on some level that they are acting in direct contradiction to the teachings of Jesus and they would rather not be reminded of their unchristian blasphemies. I bring this uncomfortable existential dilemma to the surface every time I ask them about this. I would just love for one of them to actually face it for once.

It's a rather quixotic endeavor I am afraid. I know it.

"I'm just looking for an honest MAGA Christian..."

"Clearly, based on po's obsession,... that Mt 22 passage is critical in Woke Christian thinking." -pedophile's bitch

My belief is that Matthew 22:39 is critical to the most fundamental Christian thinking. How could it possibly not be? Why won't pedophile's bitch tell us how it could not be?

That's the issue here that pedophile's bitch is loathe to confront.

We have a Christian seminarian here who is incapable of explaining what Jesus meant by Matthew 22:39... what Jesus Himself says is the greatest commandment to His followers. And pedophile's bitch can only obfuscate, distract, misdirect, and bullshit about it.

Boy, there's no danger of pedophile's bitch ever being fed to any lions. He's more than happy to renounce his former religion for political expediency. It seems to be a whole lot easier for him than defending it at all.

    myce,

    That's nonsense.

Actually, what pb did there was describe an interpretation, of the Gospel of Matthew in particular, that is run-of-the-mill for all but a nano-minority of Christians, and for as long as the Christian Canon has existed.

The Gospel of Matthew is an apologetic, composed for 1st century Jews, to demonstrate Jesus fulfilled Old Testament prophesy and is the Messiah. The so-called Sermon on the Mount, in Matthew 5-7, is the Law for the New Covenant. Jesus initiated the New Covenant at the "Last Supper: "This cup is the New Covenant in my blood, which is shed for you..."

99+% of practicing, and even bland institutionalized Christians, believe exactly what pb posted, i.e., under the New Covenant, the Old Testament command to love your neighbor had been explained by, "love your enemy,... turn the other cheek,... pray for those who persecute you,... walk the second mile..."

I set a trap for po. Woke Christians... AS MUCH AS ANYONE... believe what I aksed po what they believe, baha... Sen candidate White Bread especially does.

"MAGA Christians," i.e., "those 'fascistic and disgusting' mommies and daddies and nannas and pappaps who merely want to raise their kids without government intrusion," believe that, too.

I set a trap for po. You got caught in it, too.

  99. by Ponderer on March 12, 2026 6:47 am

So, only woke Christians believe that Jesus's words, "Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself", mean what they say...?

All other Christians, even bland institutionalized Christians, believe they mean something else? Whenever Jesus spoke, he was meaning something else?

He was only issuing a direct commandment to demonstrate something about the Old Testament?

So, when your neighbor is in trouble and needs your help, Jesus's commandment to love them as you love yourself means that you "turn the other cheek", as you should with an enemy...?

So, according to your interpretation, which has in no way been explained, Matthew 22:36-40 doesn't even really have anything to do with your neighbor? It's about loving your enemy and forgiving them from the Old Testament...? Your immigrant neighbors can all get fucked for all Jesus cared about them in those verses?

You aren't explaining Jack Shit, pedophile's bitch. You've only shifted to a new source of obfuscation.

    "So, po?:

What did Jesus Christ actually mean when He said, 'Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself'?"
    -pedophile's bitch

    Okay, fine.

First of all, I don't believe that He was talking in any code. Jesus was asked a very direct question, and He gave a very direct answer. Something you are not very familiar with, so I'm not surprised that this aspect went right over your head, pedophile's bitch.

I believe that He meant that we are commanded by God, most importantly, to care about and even love our fellow human beings... all of them... to the same degree in which we care for and love ourselves and our loved ones...

That we are all a part of God's creation and that we should treat each other as such... that He expects us to treat them as such.

I believe that Jesus meant that love and caring for our fellow man are the most important things that He wants and commands His flock to operate by. That love and caring are what He and God are all about in the first place. No matter how hard that may seem to be to accomplish.

I believe that, far from supporting the tearing apart of other Christian families who are immigrants to our land and shipping them to some horrible part of the world or imprisoning them in horrific concentration camps operated solely for Profit, to follow God's greatest commandment one should stand up for and support these immigrants... these "neighbors" of ours and not their inhuman, unchristian oppressors.

How is that not what Jesus was saying? How else is Jesus Christ saying "Love thy neighbor as thyself" supposed to be interpreted?

  100. by HatetheSwamp on March 12, 2026 7:04 am

"So, only woke Christians believe that Jesus's words, "Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself", mean what they say...?"

What does "99+%" mean to you? Your neighbor, for Jesus, includes your enemy and those who persecute you and people normally considered scum, that's what the Good Samaritan story is about. In fact, Jesus told the Good Samaritan story in answer to the question, "Who is my neighbor?"

"I believe that Jesus meant that love and caring for our fellow man are the most important things that He wants and commands His flock to operate by. That love and caring are what He and God are all about in the first place. No matter how hard that may seem to be to accomplish."

Bang on, and Jesus lived that love. But, He's also the guy who made a whip out of His own hands to drive people out of the temple! That, too, was an act of love.

Your definition of God's love has always diluted love into something akin to, I dunno, extreme tolerance?,... sumpthin that doesn't account for Jesus making that whip with His own hands... and Jesus demanding people deny themselves as a first step in following Him.

"But, He's also the guy who made a whip out of His own hands to drive people out of the temple! That, too, was an act of love." -pedophile's bitch

So, if I follow your logic, in the case of our neighbor immigrants... supporting their families being destroyed and being driven out of the country with tasers and zip ties... is an act of love...? I would love for you to elaborate on that.

And your avoidance of commenting on Matthew 22:36-40 as it relates to the current immigrant situation in this country and the support it's getting from MAGA Christians like you is blatantly telling. But then, that's what your obfuscation is meant to distract us from, isn't it.

Jesus does go on in other books and verses about how we are to treat the sojourners to our lands. And it all fits quite neatly into my interpretation of the teachings of Jesus that I am expressing here, but I guess you are needed to decode.

"Your definition of God's love has always diluted love into something akin to, I dunno, extreme tolerance?" -pedophile's bitch

No, it hasn't. You're right: You dunno.

Why do you MAGA Hats like you always have to draw everything out to ludicrous conclusions? Is it tied to your genetic predisposition to bear false witness somehow...?

But I do like that you brought up Jesus overturning those tables and whipping people.

So... what was it exactly that got Him so hot under the collar? What was it that sent the God of Love into such a furniture flipping, whipping frenzy...?

Was it over immigrants without proper documentation?

Was it over transgender folk using their proper rest rooms?

Was it over the wrong scrolls being included in libraries?

Was it over illegal aliens availing themselves of taxpayer funded medical care?

Was it over insufficient deference and obedience paid to the leader of the country?

Yeah, no. It was not about anything like that stuff.

I think Jesus was quite displeased to find that His father's house of worship had been turned into a For-Profit racket that was literally bilking worshipers out of their hard-earned drachmas in order to worship there. I believe that He was somewhat miffed that the religion was being turned into something to enslave His flock with instead of liberating them. And that He was peeved that the religion had been bastardized into a tool of oppression by scam artists and crooks.

It would certainly be perfect timing for Him to come back for Round: Two as far as I am concerned.

It would not be. And, truly, I don't think you're so stupid as to think that I think that.

I don't reply to your Mt 22 challenge because it's a DO YOU STILL BEAT YOUR WIFE QUESTION.

"Why do you MAGA Hats like you..."

And that's why I'll never take you seriously

"It would not be. And, truly, I don't think you're so stupid as to think that I think that." -pedophile's bitch

Well again, I am just trying to make sense out of what you're giving me. I gave you what my interpretation of what Jesus meant by Love thy neighbor as thyself. It wasn't really difficult at all. You just can't seem to be able to do it. For likely some existentially catastrophic reason or other.

"And that's why I'll never take you seriously" -pedophile's bitch

Just because I point out that there are in fact a great many MAGA Hats just like you?

"You just can't seem to be able to do it. For likely some existentially catastrophic reason or other."

    No.

    I refuse to do it.

For likely some existentially catastrophic reason or other. Right.

  107. by HatetheSwamp on March 12, 2026 9:56 am

    For the Mt 7:6 reason.

  108. by Ponderer on March 12, 2026 11:33 am

    "Pearls".

pedophile's bitch considers that his interpretation of Matthew 22:36-40, which apparently excuses the wiping of his ass with the teachings of Jesus Christ, qualifies as "pearls".

Yeah, I can understand why you would want to keep a lid on that.

So weak. So pathetic. Such wallowing in lameness.

  109. by Ponderer on March 13, 2026 7:36 am

    pedophile's bitch,

What does Jesus's quote in Matthew 22:39 that, "Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself" mean to you? This is His commandment that He says is like unto the greatest commandment, "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind."

It seems to me that Jesus is saying there that to love the Lord thy God, one must also needs love their neighbor the same way that they love themselves.

What do you think? What's your interpretation of that?

Fromm " Abou Ben Adam." who said to the Angel: "Then write me one who loves his fellow man. .... And lo his name led all the rest."

The poem y Leigh hunt in case you don't know it:

"Abou Ben Adhem (may his tribe increase!)
Awoke one night from a deep dream of peace,
And saw, within the moonlight in his room,
Making it rich, and like a lily in bloom,
An angel writing in a book of gold:—
Exceeding peace had made Ben Adhem bold,
And to the presence in the room he said,
"What writest thou?"—The vision raised its head,
And with a look made of all sweet accord,
Answered, "The names of those who love the Lord."
"And is mine one?" said Abou. "Nay, not so,"
Replied the angel. Abou spoke more low,
But cheerly still; and said, "I pray thee, then,
Write me as one that loves his fellow men."

The angel wrote, and vanished. The next night
It came again with a great wakening light,
And showed the names whom love of God had blest,
And lo! Ben Adhem's name led all the rest."
