Everyone strains to try to figure out why Trump does the horrifically disastrous things he does to this country. The prevailing wisdom from the left mainstream is that he's demented or senile or a nihilistic sociopath or something of that sort. This seems to be the answer to everything about him that people seem to feel most comfortable with. And I am not denying that this is a possibility.
But ever since Trump was first elected, this other possibility has been eating away at me, and it hasn't stopped since 2016.
Trump has been in bed with Putin and Russia to some degree or another over the last couple decades or more. Russian oligarchs financed much of his empire in the beginning, buying his properties or renting in them, getting him loan deals and such. How hard is it to imagine, given Trump's insatiable greed and immorality, that he and Putin made some deal way back then to groom Trump for the presidency and have him operate as such while actually being a Russian agent?
Besides Trump's greed for riches that Putin can lead him to, Putin also is very likely to have something totally devastating to Trump to use as blackmail. So, becoming insanely wealthy AND saving himself from global embarrassment...? I don't see how Trump could pass such a thing up and I can't imagine Putin not jumping at such a chance.
I do not believe for a second that Donald Trump has any real love for this country. Or for anything or anyone other than himself. In fact, given his focus on doing things that Putin likes, like publicly saying that he trust's Putin's word over his own CIA, trying to get Ukraine to surrender, defending him here at home and such, I can easily imagine that Trump actually hates this country and all its megalomaniacally-hindering laws, regulations, and that all too inconvenient democracy. And especially so since so many Americans actively loathe and despise him. Plus, you can't dismiss the whole blackmail possibility.
We are all left to speculate and imagine what he and Putin talked about during that hyper-private, in-person conversation they had in Helsinki back in '18. Or during any of the calls he made with him that lack any transcripts. Does anyone actually believe that these communications were done with the wellbeing and safety of America primary in his mind?
Putin's orders to his Asset could have been so simple:
• Always do the wrong thing for America, its people, and its economy. Use your authority as president to destroy America for me.
• Ignore your Constitution and do whatever you want to. What are they gonna do about it?
• Don't help Ukraine in any way whatsoever, while pushing for them to surrender.
• Do whatever you can to destroy all of America's alliances with its allies.
• Live your dream and enjoy all of the perks that being an authoritarian dictator can give you.
All the various aspects of Trump's history and what he has been doing seems to leave these two most likely scenarios: He is either too stupid about how anything works and is megalomaniacally insane... or he is an active foreign agent working to fulfil the wishes... no, the ORDERS of Vladimir Putin.
But now that I think of it, it's of course possible that both are correct.
With the first scenario, people are still left wondering how anything he does makes any sense at all. Whatever he does, people are always asking themselves, "Why is he doing this? Doesn't he know how wrong that will be for America for God's sake? How can he not think this will be bad for America?".
But, with the second scenario in mind, literally everything that he has done or is doing makes perfect, crystal-clear sense all of a sudden. Absolutely everything. Like a diamond bullet hitting you right between the eyes, as Col. Kurtz once said. It all falls neatly into completely logical place.
Any time that Trump does something that you find flabbergastingly destructive to this country, ask yourself if Putin would like that Trump is doing it. You will find that in one way or another; the answer is always yes.
Here's a funny thing to find myself having to say: I hope that Trump is only crazy.
I actually hope that I am wrong about all this. Because as horrific as it may be to have a literally insane, narcissistic, scofflaw, corrupt and immoral asshole for a president, the notion of an actual Russian asset sitting behind the Resolute Desk is a far, far more horrific thing to consider happening to this country.
