Trump steps back from the brink on Greenland. But the damage has been done.
After two weeks of escalating threats toward Europe, President Donald Trump blinked on Wednesday, backing away from the unthinkable brink of a potential war against a NATO ally during a speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

Trump’s vow not to use military force to seize Greenland from Denmark eased European fears about a worst-case scenario and prompted a rebound on Wall Street. And his declaration hours later after meeting with NATO’s leader that he may back off of his tariff threat having secured the “framework” of an agreement over Greenland continued a day of backpedaling on one of the most daring gambits of his presidency to date.

I don't think it erased any fears among them, Curt. They realize this man is insane. Dear Jesus God, what a horrifically unhinged performance that was. What an embarrassment to this once great nation that maniac is. They have to prepare for anything this monster might be capable of. They certainly can't trust a word that he says.

He may have never even sipped an alcoholic beverage in his life before, but it's not hard to recognize a man who's totally shitfaced drunk with power when you see one.

  3. by HatetheSwamp on January 21, 2026 2:57 pm

    po,

Your suggestion that Trump was unhinged is the age-old "deranged TrumpHaters take Trump literally but not seriously, his supporters take him seriously but not literally" truth. It's not that you are stoopid. It's your subjectivity.

Watch Mark Rutte at 4:00 your time. The fact that he chose Fox for the interview tells ole pb that he doesn't share your deranged subjectivity...

    ... but, we'll see

  4. by Curt_Anderson on January 21, 2026 2:58 pm
"Framework" = "concept of plan", "great plan", and other pronouncements that won't see fruition. It's enough to bamboozle HtS, OD and other MAGA cultists.

  5. by HatetheSwamp on January 21, 2026 3:02 pm

    Curt,

You're almost always wrong about Trump. You must repent!

  6. by Curt_Anderson on January 21, 2026 3:30 pm
    HtS,
You won't find any examples of me bring wrong about Trump. That includes the links below.

Btw, Trump will lose his his case to fire Lisa Cook today in the Supreme Court.

When even the GOP is starting to talk about impeachment? Even Trump can catch on that he needs to change course.

    See my comment #4. 🤣 🤣 🤣

"Well, we have a concept of a deal. I think it's going to be very good deal for the United States, also for them, and we're going to work together on something having to do with the Arctic as a whole, but also Greenland, and it has to do with the security, great security, strong security and other things," Trump said on CNBC.

America already has the right per a 1951 agreement with Denmark to have military bases on Greenland. We've had as many as 17 there although we voluntarily shut down most of them and have only one presently.

It's been two weeks since HtS gushed, "Trump did it. Makes the Greenland deal!!!!!!!" See link.

I said in that thread, comment #6:
"Explain the "framework" you are congratulating Trump on. "Framework" is only meant to fool the gullible Trump supporters for the length of their attention span, a week or two, into thinking Trump achieved something. Soon it will not be mentioned again."

Does anybody have any updates on this supposed "Greenland deal"?

  16. by Curt_Anderson on February 3, 2026 1:21 pm
    HtS,
    So what is the "deal"?

  17. by HatetheSwamp on February 3, 2026 1:35 pm

AI: "Donroe Doctrine." There's a stunningly profound philosophy underlying all that Trump's doing, whether you agree with it or not. If you weren't blinding faithing your Holy Trinity, you'd know this already.

And, I think that part of Trump's schtick is to goad yinz into guffawing at him and not taking him seriously so that while you're snorting and kneeslapping, he's achieving an agenda you'd resist were you not so self-righteous.

    But, go for it!

  18. by Ponderer on February 3, 2026 1:41 pm

The Art of the Deal, BABY...?

It sounds like he dealed his way into everything being where it was before he started except for now everyone totally hates our guts now.

  19. by Curt_Anderson on February 3, 2026 1:46 pm
    HtS,
You are floundering. You still cannot say what that "deal" is, and Trump ain't talking. Denmark still owns Greenland. There was no deal other than the status quo since 1951.

The only thing different is that a "Bakery in Denmark is selling orange Donald Trump 'moron' cakes in response to Greenland comments"

  23. by HatetheSwamp on February 4, 2026 4:47 am

What I love is that yinz seem to have understood perfectly when "that feckless dementia-ridden piece of crap" invoked, "God save the [dead] Queen, man," or announced, "End of quote, repeat the line," or splained that America can be described in the one word, "Asufutimaehaehfutbw." But, can't understand that Trump never speaks at face value.

And, it's a hoot watching yinz insist on taking him literally but not seriously. When Trump is gone, I won't miss him, but, I'll miss him scrambling woke brains.

  24. by Curt_Anderson on February 4, 2026 8:51 am
I don't take Trump literally or seriously. Trump said something in the news sometime ago and my wife asked if it was true. I told her it is safe toassume that nothing that Donald Trump says is true until and unless it's proven otherwise. In that particular case, she asked about, it wasn't true.

It is Trump's actions that bother me.

  25. by HatetheSwamp on February 4, 2026 8:56 am

You take him literally about Greenland, baha

  26. by Curt_Anderson on February 4, 2026 9:03 am
No I didn't believe him from the start. I did believe he fooled you into thinking "Trump did it!!!!!!" as you announced.

  27. by HatetheSwamp on February 4, 2026 9:22 am

Believe him or not, you took him literally.

  28. by Indy! on February 4, 2026 9:52 am

You voted for him 3 times which means you and OD (who also voted for him 3X) are the only two people on this board who believe in him.

Actions speak louder than words (or your nonsense about subjective truth).
