Let there be no mistake. When everyone gets paid the same, nobody gives a shit how they do their job. This is a flaming example (in addition to the Russian "robot" curt was talking about. In China, the Hongqi bridge was finished just months ago and partially fell apart into the hydroelectric plant lake it was crossing.

Over the past several decades, China has spent heavily on infrastructure like highways, bridges and rail lines, much of it in mountainous areas. The surge in spending built a significant portion of the world’s tallest and longest bridges. It also left many local governments mired in debt.

Here's the thing. I don't think this falls on the "engineers" in the bridge making group. The real thing is there were many potential known failures in that area, "someone" pushed through for the "greater good." Good work with the Police there, who closed the road the day before the rockslide (which should have been considered prior to the building of the bridge). But since no one is accountable for the it, and everyone works for the Xi Jinping we can't imagine that life. If Xi wants the bridge built, HE will get the bridge built! over the bodies of workers, either in construction or the aftermath.

Who's advocating for everyone getting paid the same? I'm guessing this is just another one of your Fox Fiction Factory fairy tales that applies to absolutely nothing in real world. Think you're not only the Official Board Liar - but also the Official Board Red Herring now. 🤔

Joseph Ingalls & Karl Marx. You should read up on them. That's the epitome of Communism and why it's never going to actually happen.

Marx is best known for his seminal works, including:
The Communist Manifesto (1848): Co-authored with Friedrich Engels, this pamphlet outlines the principles of communism and calls for the working class to rise against the bourgeoisie.

Das Kapital (1867-1894): A critical analysis of political economy, this three-volume work examines the capitalist system, its dynamics, and its inherent contradictions.

    Oh. Yeah. "art" snicker "school."

    olde dude: Master of Irrelevancy.

I love how one state politician wants to open a city-owned grocery store and the MAGA Hats in here are decrying all the work camp gulags popping up everywhere they look...

...While their Pedophile in Chief and his pedophile-protecting party are looting and pillaging our treasury as they checkoff box after box in the Fascist Coup Check List and they don't even raise an eyebrow.

Back to the thread. sorry for the video not coming through.

In August, another bridge under construction fell apart in China collapses into Yellow River, killing at least 12 people, state media said.

At least 12 people were killed and four left missing after part of a bridge under construction collapsed Friday in northwest China, state media reported. A video published by state broadcaster CCTV showed the middle of the bridge's arch section suddenly giving way and plunging into the waters of the Yellow River below.

What Marx did say, OD is:

Marx endorsed the proposal that entitlement to consumption of individual consumer goods would be on the basis of the number of hours worked. This is reason because whether you do the job is what is within your power. The skills you have, on the other hand, are the result of the society’s educational system.

Marx did allow that if someone has a much harsher job situation, such as high stress (such as a transit bus driver) that might entitle them to earning the standard consumption entitlement for fewer hours of work.

There is another qualification. Marx also proposed that there should be a social fund to provide various systems of free to user social provision. In Marx’s day medicine was in its infancy, but nowadays free to user health care provision would be an example. Now, this is provided on the basis of need. One person’s needs here may be greater than another’s. Suppose A has some terrible injury or disease, and major resources are required. Meanwhile person B has good health and doesn’t require this social expenditure on their behalf. Thus A actually receives a larger proportion of the social product than B. That is the way it is with a pooled system to provide for needs.

So pay would be equal for consumption of individual consumer goods (with the caveat about harshness of work) but there are other things provided to people as free to user social provision on the basis of need.

As for China, your criticism is almost funny. China is now light years ahead of the US in certain technologies. Its EVs make the American efforts look like carthorses. It now has a wind turbine that floats on the water with two angled turbines to produce twice as much power as anything you have.

It has a massive high-speed rail network with bullet trains, which is the longest and most extensively used in the world. Travelling more than 220 m.p.h., they connect every city in China with more than 500,000 population.

China is aking over the 21st. century while the complacency and conceit of the USA is causing it to sink into irrelevance.

Odorous - so I guess you didn't get to that part of the wiki page where it says Joseph Ingalls & Karl Marx are dead. Or the part about them not being Americans either. Maybe if you paid attention in middle school you would have already known that like the rest of us. 🤔

  9. by oldedude on November 13, 2025 10:28 am
That was never brought up in the thread fuckface. And why does it matter? There's really nothing about the US there, if you had actually read anything posted (minus po's rants).

So just to spell it out for you... The thread is about the crappy "infrastructure" in China. The obvious reference to Marx is that he's the grandfather of the Communist movement. Again, so I guess you didn't get to that part. Maybe if you paid attention in middle school, you would have already known that like the rest of us.

Who's advocating for everyone getting paid the same? I'm guessing this is just another one of your Fox Fiction Factory fairy tales that applies to absolutely nothing in real world.

    OD,

"When everyone gets paid the same, nobody gives a shit how they do their job."

    1. Not everyone in China gets paid the same. Nor did it work that way in the former Soviet Union or other communist states. China has billionaires and China has low wage earners. "Everyone gets paid the same" is a complete myth.

    2. But let's say that it were true. How would that be relevant? Are you saying that some people/organizations/parties are pushing for everyone to be paid the same here in America?

  19. by Curt_Anderson on November 15, 2025 11:29 am
"When everyone gets paid the same, nobody gives a shit how they do their job." ---OD

In the private sector employees generally don't know what other people are paid. Why wouldn't the likely suspicion that others are paid more cause worker apathy?

Also, in the military aren't the many low level enlisted people paid exactly the same? Are they all slackers?

  20. by Indy! on November 15, 2025 11:32 am

Good catch, Curt. OD was jealous of all the officers getting paid more, so he purposely took twice as long as necessary to clean up all the cigarette butts in the parking lot.

  21. by oldedude on November 15, 2025 11:42 am
First, that's the "reason" they are still considered "socialist" countries. In Marxist (and thereby Leninist) doctrine, the epitome of their theories is that everyone earns the same money. That was also my reference with concha.

The relevancy is that you're not paid to do better work. And since ALL means of production are owned by the government, they oversea that everyone is paid the same. Marx said the perfect government is one that the owners (government) get paid the same as all workers. So if I'm smart enough to produce more, there's no incentive for me to do that. And I'm not paid extra for making a quality product.

You and I are working in the same factory. You produce 100 "wizgos" per day, that only fails .5% of the time.
I on the other hand, produce 15 wizgos with a 90% failure rate.

We will both make the same money. That's the failure in that system. Honestly, it's built for stupid, lazy people so they'll feel good about themselves and destroys any incentive to do a good job and self pride.

  22. by Indy! on November 15, 2025 12:26 pm

We all understand how socialism works, and those of us on the left even know that socialism and communism are not the same thing. But here's the part you're leaving out, OD - the same thing happens with capitalism. Anybody who has ever worked a real job with lots of co-workers understands there are people who work harder and people who slack all day that often get paid the same amount.

  23. by oldedude on November 15, 2025 12:54 pm
    Obviously not.

  24. by oldedude on November 15, 2025 1:00 pm

I would say that is true, and it's not a requirement by the government. There's where you are extremely wrong. In capitalism, you have the ability to change jobs, get a better company, etc. In socialism you don't have that ability. You must request a change from the government to move somewhere else, much the same as applying for a change within a company. So I'm assuming that you're one of those that's too lazy and stupid to apply yourself on a job to get ahead. No one else will hire you. OR you "own" your own business and don't have the desire to make more.

  25. by Navy2711 on November 15, 2025 3:06 pm

    OD,

How is your assertion - that everyone in socialism gets paid the same and therefore nobody gives a shit how they do their job - relevant? Are you saying that some people/organizations/parties are pushing for everyone to be paid the same here in America?

    Curt,

Each promotion in the military comes with a pay raise. You may have seen that ranks, such as "Corporal" and "Sergeant," all have an associated "E" designation. That's a pay grade. So a corporal (E-4) makes a little less than a sergeant (E-5)

  26. by oldedude on November 15, 2025 3:41 pm

This is tied into the "Pay equity gap" mentioned so often in the left.

Imagine an America where the CEO of a tech giant takes home the same salary as a grocery store cashier. Where software engineers, janitors, teachers and hedge fund managers all earn the exact same paycheck. It’s a radical idea, and one that’s gaining attention thanks to people like Madeline Pendleton, founder of Tunnel Vision, a clothing company where every employee, including Pendleton herself, is paid the same wage. Profits are shared, and there’s a five-year plan to distribute ownership equally.

Income inequality has been rising steadily since the 1980s. Those critical of the trend say it discourages the poorest people from working hard and leaves more of us unhappy, unhealthy or in jail. These problems cut into productivity and boost costs related to public health and law enforcement [source: Gordon]. But what if everyone in the U.S. received equal pay, CEOs and fry cooks alike? Would society benefit?

Let's take a look at a scenario where everyone got the same check every year no matter how well they did their job, how many hours they worked or what kind of contribution they made to society.

What problems would we have to deal with? Well, a lot of people would be unhappy. People doing miserable or difficult work would feel they were being robbed.

Of course, a universal maximum wage is really only workable if people, you know, work. But with great social programs and a guaranteed income not tied to performance, the only people who would come to work every day would be those who loved their jobs so much they'd do them for free. Otherwise, what's a good reason to work? Why not call in sick over and over? Without financial incentive, we'd have to find some other way to keep people in line. Shirkers would have to be fined, publicly shamed or imprisoned.

The theory in Marxist/Leninist countries is NOT that everybody gets paid the same, OD. The theory is the same; instead, the principle was that compensation should be based on the quantity and value of labour contributed. Skilled people get more as do those who work harder and produce more.

You are such a slow learner. Your education is not going well.

  28. by Navy2711 on November 15, 2025 5:02 pm

As Meagain said, that's just not how Marxism works. And that's not how it works in China. The guys who designed that bridge made FAR more than the unskilled laborers who built it.

Dude, you're just so clueless. 🙄

  29. by oldedude on November 15, 2025 5:31 pm
BOTH of you stupid people, PLEASE just read the fucking posts, okay?

#21 you stupid fucks. It IS how Marx envisioned it. True, it's a stupid fucking concept. I doubt if either of you have actually read Marx and Ingalls. Even the Manifesto. It lays it out very clearly there. So please, both of you. Pull your heads out of each other's arse.

  30. by Indy! on November 15, 2025 6:20 pm

Bill Maher was crying about how "socialist" the Ds are tonight. He was whining about Mandami and how the Ds need to "move to the center". That worked one time - with Bill Clinton and only because Ross Perot took a good percentage of Bush 41's votes.

  31. by oldedude on November 15, 2025 7:11 pm
So maybe you just need to shut the fuck up. The thing is, you're not a "socialist" much less a communist. You're an anarchist, which is even worse. You don't believe in any government, and will therefore tear down whatever government is there. The more interesting fact is that you want socialized healthcare. Unfortunately, in anarchy, there's no government to "give" you shit. So you're going to have to be a bitch for the local gang (which I'm sure you won't mind). Or you can pick up soap for trumpster.

  32. by Indy! on November 15, 2025 7:54 pm

Nope. Anarchists are always stupid idiot kids with no political education at all and they're never actually anarchists because they don't even know what the word means. They just claim they are so some ditzy broad will be impressed enough to have sex with them.

    OD,

"#21 you stupid fucks. It IS how Marx envisioned it."

From OD's post #21:"In Marxist (and thereby Leninist) doctrine, the epitome of their theories is that everyone earns the same money."

    ______________

    1. Nope. That's just dead wrong. The epitome of Marxism would be communism, where there is no "pay," per se, just distribution according to need. Marx envisioned this happening in a future society where technology and automation created such abundance that there was no scarcity. People would work because they wanted to.

The transitional stage - socialism - would retain pay differences and incentives.

You're clueless. You're regurgitating Fox New sound bites that are used to scare people away from communal programs like universal health care.

    2. Still waiting to hear from you how this is relevant to anything in current events. The closest you've come to an explanation is saying that the Chinese bridge collapsed because everyone is paid the same, and with no pay incentives everyone just does lousy work. And that is absolutely not true. China does not have "equal pay".

The bridge likely collapsed because, as with other developed, market-driven economies, China suffers from problems that are, ironically, the opposite of socialism: Contractors face enormous pressures to cut corners and engage in corruption. This results in rushed timelines, sub-par design, inferior construction materials, bribed inspectors and falsified safety records.

"Equal pay = faulty work" is simply WRONG, because China does not have equal pay in the first place.

You just simply have no idea what you're talking about.

  35. by oldedude on November 16, 2025 8:32 am
Contractors face enormous pressures to cut corners and engage in corruption. This results in rushed timelines, sub-par design, inferior construction materials, bribed inspectors and falsified safety records.

Absolutely. I do agree with your post I bolded (no exceptions). That's what I've been saying all along. That's what happens when someone that doesn't understand the product is riding roughshod over something they don't understand. Thusly, I'm not a socialist.

All the means of production in China are owned by the government. Even if there is an "owner" that a political title only. And they're still "responsible" for the "production" of whatever they produce. Much like the fentanyl production.

I wish you would have cited that because I'd be interested in the article and who has the stones to say that of the Chinese. Obviously, it isn't someone that was living in China after they posted those words. If it was someone in country, They got dead shortly after the posting.

  36. by Navy2711 on November 16, 2025 10:03 am

    OD,

    1. "That's what I've been saying all along."

No. That's not what you've been saying all along. Your argument has been centered around your unfactual assertion that everyone gets paid the same, and work quality suffers because there's no incentive to work better / harder.

    2. "All the means of production in China are owned by the government."

No. Some in critical sectors - banking, energy, telecoms - are owned by the government. These are called State Owned Enterprises - SOEs. Others, such as retail, manufacturing and construction, are not, although they are often heavily influenced by the government.

But although China's economy is state guided, it is still a market economy. It has retained it's five-year plans, and some sectors receive preferential treatment, but it is no longer a planned economy, and it does not have "equal pay".

(Seriously, do you think Mao is still alive?)

"I wish you would have cited ..."

I didn't provide a citation because I didn't get it from an article.
