A few things are going on right now (1227 EDT).
1. 18 hours ago, 8 (count'em EIGHT) broke from the caucaus to vote FOR the house version of the bill.
These are;
Fetterman (D-Pa.)- the most outspoken critic of the Senate Democratic leadership’s strategy to block a clean, House-passed CR to fund the government in an attempt to get Republicans to agree to an extension of enhanced health insurance premiums
King (I-Maine)- expressed his concerns at the start of the shutdown that failing to fund government would hand too much power to Trump.
Rosen (D-Nev.)- a staunch opponent to the bill earlier. Her vote was exchanged to get several issues with the ACA entered to the new bill
Kaine (D-Va.)- represents more than 140,000 federal workers in Virginia
Durbin (D-Ill.)- Democratic Whip, so that is an important and shows the split of the dims
Hassan (D-N.H.) Shaheen (D-N.H.)- the central negotiators to get the CR through
Cortez Masto (D-Nev.)- as early as Sept, she was voting for no shutdown, knowing what it meant to her constitution
2. Majority Leader Thun asked for everyone in the senate to vote to vote on the bill to start the government again. IF one dim votes "no" the process will stop until the next time they "call a vote." I think this is where you see people give up on stupidity. One thing chuckie demanded was the SNAP card be started without voting on the bill. Okay, that's now a moot point. At last vote, it was 40-60. Hold your breath.
3. Speaker Johnson gave the House a pre-warning to get ready to come back to DC on this. The rules say he has to give a 36-hour warning to the house for votes. One LIMFAC in this. 40 airports had to slow the number of aircraft because the ATCs aren't getting paid, and are therefore on skeleton crews. My bet? Some poor schmuck trying to get home to see family will get screwed out of their seat to get politicians back to work. And the politician shouldn't be paid either if they can't agree on anything.
If anyone else gets solid updates, just post them.
