There's also the other side of the coin - if you know how to work the manufacturer, they'll often cover your product after the warranty is up anyway. I've had one TV that required a $1600 part fixed for free (even pick-up and delivery) and another one the company bought it back from me as long as I spend the money (around $1300) on their brand again (which I planned on doing anyway). Also got 30 days of free Apple Care when my computer battery went tits up after about 4 years - ending up with them replacing everything except the display so I essentially had a brand new computer again.
