I'm guessing that neither Curt's Holy Trinity nor po's The Rachel have reported this.

But, understand, if Trump’s a fascist he's in very, very good company. Eh?

"Insurrection Act has been invoked more than 30 times in U.S. history. The most recent instance was in 1992.

Notable uses of the Insurrection Act

1861: The Civil War. President Abraham Lincoln invoked the Act at the start of the Civil War to call up militia to suppress the rebellion of seceding states.

1870s: Reconstruction. President Ulysses S. Grant used the Act multiple times to combat Ku Klux Klan violence in the South.
Late 19th and early 20th century: Labor Disputes.

Several presidents, including Grover Cleveland and Woodrow Wilson, deployed troops to intervene in major labor strikes, such as the Pullman Strike in 1894 and the Colorado Coalfield War in 1914.

1950s and 1960s: Civil Rights Movement. The Act was invoked to enforce federal desegregation orders against the wishes of state governors.

1957: President Dwight D. Eisenhower sent the 101st Airborne to Little Rock, Arkansas, to enforce the desegregation of Central High School.

1962–1963: President John F. Kennedy used the Act to enforce desegregation at the University of Mississippi and the University of Alabama.

1965: President Lyndon B. Johnson federalized the Alabama National Guard to protect civil rights activists marching from Selma to Montgomery.

1967–1968: Civil Unrest. President Johnson deployed federal troops to Detroit in 1967 and to Washington D.C., Baltimore, and Chicago in 1968 to quell riots after the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr.

1992: Los Angeles Riots. President George H. W. Bush invoked the Act at the request of California's governor to send troops to restore order during the riots sparked by the Rodney King verdict."

Bada bing. Bada bam. Bada boom!

Every one of those was a good reason. Trump has no reason at all.

  2. by Curt_Anderson on October 14, 2025 9:41 am
I am not sure all the invocations of the Insuection Act were "good", Indy. I am thinking of the labor union busting efforts and forcibly maintaining slavery.

Therer are many good, legitimate examples, like Lincoln, Grant, Eisenhower's. Other legitimate examples include those in which there was rights being denied and/or real violence uncontrollable or uncontrolled by local authorities. Authorities actually requested federal help in restoring order.

Trump is different. He intends to use the Insurrection Act when the local authorities can and are controlling the situations. In most cases there is no "situation" to control. Furthermore, the sending of troops is against the wishes of mayors and governors.

The other difference between Trump and other presidents is that they used it judicially and minimally. Trump wants to employ it willy-nilly in every major city with a Democrat mayor.

  3. by Indy! on October 14, 2025 9:52 am

I must of skipped over the union thing (although they had outright wars during strikes back then so I'd have to look into it). But "forcibly maintaining slavery"? Where do you see that?

  4. by Curt_Anderson on October 14, 2025 10:11 am
    Indy,
HtS, didn't mention it, but I was thinking of Nat Turner's Rebellion (aka Southampton Insurrection), when Andrew Jackson sent in federal troops to quash Black resistance to slavery. Of course slavery was the law of the land then and it was a violent uprising.

I, too think there's a level of sending troops in (like I said when he started this).

Portland and other cities are targeting federal buildings. That's a huge issue. The federal government has a responsibility to not only protect the buildings but also the folks that work there. If I knew there was a cement shake being thrown at me, I would expect the SAC to call it off. The issue with that is the ops tempo must be really high for the analysts and other folks that have no means of defence.

I also think the murder of Kirk green lighted all the extremely low information folks (a few of them right here on SS) into joining the riots. They've already arrested several people that had all intent to murder some of the conservative people.

It's funny that's a green light for them, when it's conservatives that should be out rioting and murdering the libtards. The libtard assholes are acting like one of their notables was murdered.

  6. by Ponderer on October 14, 2025 10:21 am

    Gargantuanly gigantic difference here.

None of the presidents who employed the Insurrection Act in any of those previous uses of it were doing it in the facilitating of an authoritarian coup against the government of the United States of America.

So, kind of a rotten apple and a truckload of oranges sorta thing.

Wow. Whole cities are targeting federal buildings now? Geez. That's rough.

I guess that makes Portland and all those other cities Antifada.

Terrorists that need to be dealt with appropriately. As terrorists in an insurrection. We did that once when the dims attacked the north. Or did you miss that in your "school?"

  11. by Indy! on October 14, 2025 10:33 am

Those were your "dims" (spelled wrong as usual) - the people who became the party you support now. But hey - we get why you have to reach back so far to find a time when the Rs were on the correct side of an issue... because it's been a long time since the Rs were on the correct side of an issue. So long ago, they were a completely different party - aka "liberals" and or "progressives".

"We did that once when the dims attacked the north. Or did you miss that in your "school?"" -olde dude

Huh. I guess DC could well be considered "the north", but these guys certainly weren't Democrats...

  13. by Ponderer on October 15, 2025 7:42 am

Nothing bad happened during GW Bush's administration. If you don't count 9-11.

And the Republicans have never engaged in an insurrection. If you don't count 1-6.

po- you are becoming the same as the 9/11 terrorists. You (et.al.) hate the US as much as the terrorists did on that day. And I'm expected to kiss your arse even though you don't have ethics, and you just want to murder people you "disagree" with. If you don't like what they say, don't listen. That what we have to do with you and the other anarchists and marxists.

  16. by Ponderer on October 15, 2025 8:45 am

I love how these flaming MAGA Hats, olde dude and pedophile's bitch, will go on and on and on saying absolutely nothing when they don't have any cogent or intelligent response to being presented with facts they don't like. They go on and on without ever saying a single thing to relevantly contradict anything I say, thereby confirming it as true.

They actually think they make themselves look smart by coming across as total blithering idiots.

We "hate" America when they are the ones shredding the Constitution.

po- Huh. I guess DC could well be considered "the north", but these guys certainly weren't Democrats...

April 12th, 1861. Fort Sumter off the coast of Charleston Bay. And yes, the were Dimmycratic.*

    kudos to Judge M.B.Gerry

  20. by Ponderer on October 15, 2025 2:33 pm

You know, I thought that was possibly what you were referring to. But I just couldn't see any relevancy that you could have thought it had to today. So, I thought you were probably referring to a more recent example of Insurrection. Like the Donald Trump January Sixth Capitol Riots and Insurrection that I posted an image of. My bad.

  21. by oldedude on October 16, 2025 4:02 pm
So the insurrection at Ft Sumter, Wasn's as big as J6?

    J6 1 killed
    0 killed in the aftermath.

    Ft Sumter 1 killed
~750,000 Americans killed in the aftermath.

  22. by Indy! on October 16, 2025 4:05 pm

Well - again - those "democrats" were today's Republicans. It's amazing how LITTLE you know of American history. I guess Google needs to add a "context" button to spell these kind of things out for you when you're looking them up online.
