McAuliffe stomped out half way through scheduled 20 minute availability.
We vacationed for a few weeks in Virginia last fall, shortly after the 020 election day. McAuliffe was already running ads. He was months away from having an opponent. Clearly, McAuliffe had a mountain of money.
He was a successful VA Governor in the past and was running for a second term as a prohibitive favorite. His opponent, Glenn Youngkin, is now beginning to act as if he is leading and his campaign says that its internal polls has Youngkin leading.
And, McAuliffe is behaving as if he's losing. Incredible. He's brought in nationally prominent Dems including Barack Obama, Stacy Abrams and Jill Biden but not Joe.
Dana Perino, FNC anchor, who was Jen Psaki for Bush 43 back in the day, and who almost always gets this right, says McAuliffe will lose. So does Karl Rove, who's good at breaking down the data.
McAuliffe had two problems.
1. He made a ridiculous remark in a debate saying parents should have no role in determining the curriculum taught to their children...a hot issue, especially in Virginia.
2. The extreme and increasing unpopularity of "that feckless dementia-ridden piece of crap" in the White House, who's, apparently, not welcome in the state to campaign for McAuliffe.
It would take a perfect storm of Youngkin to defeat McAuliffe. It seems that that storm has hit.
It's probably the first wave and will be followed in 022 by a red avalanche.
