It's embarrassing that our president is trafficking in false claims, but more than that it's scary. It's scary because either the president is fed false information by his intelligence sources, or he ignores his intelligence. My sense is that Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard is providing Trump with only "MAGA approved" intelligence rather than fact-based intelligence.

Trump confronts South Africa's Ramaphosa with false claims of white genocide
During a contentious Oval Office meeting on Wednesday, President Donald Trump confronted South African President Cyril Ramaphosa with images and video clips that he said show an ongoing "genocide" against white farmers in the country.

But the footage the president pointed to in the dimmed White House room -- showing a row of crosses -- was not what Trump made it out to be.

"These are the -- these are burial sites right here," Trump said of the footage.

"Each one of those white things you see is a cross. And there's approximately a thousand of them. They're all white farmers, the family of white farmers. ...Those people are all killed," Trump added.

In reality, the video shows a protest that took place on Sept. 5, 2020, near Normandien, South Africa. The protest was called over the reported murder of two farmers at their home in the area days earlier, according to the local outlet Newcastle Advertiser.

    Curt,

I don't have enough information to form an opinion on what's going on in South Africa.

I watch Fox News, not enough to quote it as often as you do, but I try to catch The Five when I can because it is, by far, the highest rated cable news show, and because it's not news. Fox uses it to display right-wing talking points, i.e., the right-wing orthodoxy of the day.

Interestingly, The Five ignored the South Africa story entirely yesterday. That's significant. However, interpreting the meaning of silence is difficult.

Beyond that, I will say that my frequent mention of "Curt's Holy Trinity" and "po's metaphorical and Literal Rachel" are to point out that you two promote Fake News with the best of them.

One of your links in this thread is a Holy Trinity site and three are Holy Trinity adjacent. At best, your account has to be taken with a grain of salt.

I'm still seeking truth on South Africa. I encourage you to join me.

The problem is the Homeless Hairdo’s “intelligence source” is the same as Brown Shorts’ here - Fox “News”. It’s not surprising Brown Shorts picks his “news” based on their ratings. 😂

    Indy,

    Noop!

Fascinatingly, Indy,... and, Curt, our reporter on all things Fox News, can back me up this this: Snippets of the Megyn Kelly/Jake Tapper interview flooded media yesterday but Fox pretended it never happened.

I saw bits of Katie Couric and Tapper on The Five. But, nuthin of Kelly.

As with so many things, you are wrong about Kelly and Fox, keehee ha.

Sometimes "racist" laws are corrective laws. SA being a case in point.

  11. by Indy! on May 22, 2025 9:46 am

Get you and your racist buddies to act like human beings instead of uncontrollable mindless thugs and countries like South Africa won't need laws dealing with race to keep you assholes in line.

    I love the irony.

The South African reverse-racists are willing to engage in corruption and chisel out a special exception for Musk...

... because he has sumpthin they want.

Ole pb hopes Musk... and Trump hold their ground.

It's way more than just Fox News - there's a virtual network of right-wing websites and channels all over the internet that almost no one on the left ever criticizes, and they're doing a lot more damage than Fox News because they're influencing young Americans, especially young men.

  16. by Indy! on May 25, 2025 7:23 am

Donna - no org has done to push young folks into the Republicans camp than the Democratic Party. This is in large part due to what they did to Bernie in 2016 and 2020 (that was the start). The Ds are not offering anything to engage young people - I’ve made that point MANY times on this board and you folks act like everything is fine nominating losers like Hillary, Biden and Kamala and I’m the crazy one.

"It's way more than just Fox News - there's a virtual network of right-wing websites and channels all over the internet that almost no one on the left ever criticizes, and they're doing a lot more damage than Fox News..."

    Exactly!

    Donna,

You don't know the half of it because you'd never deign to watch a minute of Fox News. Apart from ole pb telling you, Fox News was waaaaaaaaaay pro Ron DeSantis for the 024 GOP nomination until it was obvious that he had no shot. Fox ain't the conservative equivalent of Curt's Holy Trinity nor po's Rachel. It's at least as much news reporting as it is preaching. It's conservative but it employs real journalists... in addition to conservative torch lighters like Greg Gutfeld and Jesse Watters...

... but you are bang on about right-wing, uh, podcasts, more than websites. And, many of them are waaaaaaaaaay conservative and/or MAGA. And, under 30s are devoted to them. They engineered the GOP takeover of DC last November. Fox had little to nuthin to do with it.

Honestly, I don't get it. How is it that the right-wing is always on the cutting edge of New Media? 35 years ago, it was Rush Limbaugh, followed by Sean Hannity and talk radio. Today it's podcasts and independent websites. And, Curt still thinks the NYT matters. Baha.

As an aside, Indy amuses me that he's so obsessed with Fox. Ten years ago, it was Indy who was preaching on SS that cable news is dead. He was right. I don't get it. Maybe it's his father.

For 70Somethings Fox may be a thing but for 30Unders? Noop.

    You're right about that, Indy.

Indy, the only demographic Trump won was White men.

  21. by HatetheSwamp on May 25, 2025 8:00 am

    Donna - and? 🤔

  24. by Donna on May 26, 2025 6:48 am

Do you think that White men voted for Trump because they're pissed off at what the Dems did to Bernie?

  25. by HatetheSwamp on May 26, 2025 7:03 am

"Do you think that White men voted for Trump because they're pissed off at what the Dems did to Bernie?"

    Who's this to?

White men always voted for Trump but the attitude of the Biden/Harris campaign was grossly misogynistic.

Can you imagine how offensive to men that Julia Roberts, "you can vote for Kammy behind your man's back," ad was to men? My guess is that that ad did more to turn black and Hispanic, and undecided white, men away from Kammy than anything Trump ever said or did.

As for me, I think that many MAGAs are very open to Bernie's appeals to working class voters.

But, JD's message, as he defined it in his Convention speech is eerily close to Bernie's,... except for Bernie's social progressivism.

  26. by Indy! on May 26, 2025 9:24 am

Do you think that White men voted for Trump because they're pissed off at what the Dems did to Bernie?

Like virtually everything, it's not that simple, Donna. People saw what the Ds did to Bernie and did not like it, so yes - that is PARTIALLY what turned people (not just white men) away from the Ds. But that's just a small sample of what is pissing off a lot of people when it comes to the Ds. "White men" do not vote as a block (as your own Ms. story said - college educated white men were almost 50/50 for Trump/Kamala). But it is all adding up. What the Ds did in respect to....

    Bernie
    Joe Biden
    Black Lives Matter
    Kamala
    The "Squad" selling out

    Etc... etc..

You should have been on twitter when all this was happening. People were PISSED OFF. You, Curt and the party just make a new excuse for every indescretion and act like that's good enough - like the way you continually excuse the party for giving us the GOP healthcare plan. People have seen the Ds are absolutely worthless when it comes to making change.

  27. by Donna on May 26, 2025 11:53 am

What comes screaming out in those exit polls, and you touched on it, is the roll college education plays in voting choices.

White men who haven't attended college went for Trump 69-29; White men who attended college went for Trump 50-47.

That's a huge difference. And I think that's because people who attend college read more and are generally more educated about a lot of things and have a thirst for knowledge that those who aren't college educated don't.

  28. by HatetheSwamp on May 26, 2025 1:41 pm

On election night, George Will was talking about "the diploma divide." He's bang on.

Colleges in West have become woke academies. Virtually no one graduates with a four year degree with being indoctrinated.

Fortunately, common sense lives on among working class people.

  29. by Indy! on May 26, 2025 2:55 pm

Watching Fox is "getting indoctrinated". Getting educated makes people understand just how wrong the right is.
