VATICAN CITY — Pope Leo XIV affirmed Friday that the family is founded on the “stable union between a man and a woman,” and that the unborn and elderly enjoy dignity as God’s creatures, articulating clear Catholic teaching on marriage and abortion at the start of his pontificate.

He said it was up to governments to build peaceful societies “above all by investing in the family, founded upon the stable union between a man and a woman.”

As the then-head of the Augustinian order, the Rev. Robert Prevost in 2012 criticized the “homosexual lifestyle” and the role of mass media in promoting acceptance of same-sex relationships that conflicted with Catholic doctrine. A decade later, during Francis’ pontificate, he acknowledged Francis’ call for a more inclusive church, and said he didn’t want people excluded just on the basis of their lifestyle.

In those first moments, when LGBTQs were praising Leo and hoped that he'd usher in an era of acceptance, ole pb noted, here on SS, that he sees what LGBTQs want Leo to normalize as a call to return to Sodom and Gamorrah.

Ole pb was, of course, correct.

Why do you care? You're not even Christian.

    Indy,

I merely report news here. Many in the LGBTQ Mafia were elated in the first moments of Pope Leo's reign because they took from what was known about his several criticisms of Trump and JD, that he'd normalize gay marriage and all things TQ.

Ole pb said, in the moment, that we'll soon find out that he thinks of LGBTQs as advocates for a return to the ways of Sodom and Gamorrah.

    Ole pb was correct.

The real question is why do you care? fucking troll.

Lead- I found that to be pretty interesting. I'm not Catholic, and many in my family are former Catholics (with one still practicing) They left because of the changes in the church. I doubt if that alone will get them back, but it may catch their attention.

Perhaps this new Pope just wants to Make the Papacy Great Again...?

The Church is a business now.

  7. by oldedude on May 19, 2025 6:50 pm
Po- That's what it actually says. That's why people left the church. Because the difference between medieval europe, and today is that people can read.

Genesis 19 is a good place to start. The city is full of wickedness. Sex between members of the family, men with "underage girls" and woman on woman, and men on men sex and prostitutes, but spared Lot and his family. The New Testament uses these cities as examples of behavior that God’s people need to avoid. In the biblical account, the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah serves as a powerful symbol of divine judgment, depicting the cities as centers of wickedness and immorality (Matthew 10:15; Matthew 11:24 2 Peter 2:6 Jude 1:7). . The story is found in Genesis 18 and 19, where the Lord shared His plans to destroy these cities due to their sins.

So. reporting of fact you can either accept or reject. That's up to you. Against the will of Christ, I really don't care about What you "believe." That's up to you. I'm supposed to "save" you. I don't think I can do that. Your "feelings" are too far out of that reality. I wash my hands if you aren't willing to change.

  8. by Ponderer on May 20, 2025 4:57 am

Right, od. Because the only sins that God seems to ever care about enough to destroy entire civilizations is having sex the wrong way. Unauthorized sex is God's biggest pet peeve apparently. Really ticks Him off.

He doesn't give afuck about stealing from charities. He doesn't care about taking food from starving children. He doesn't care about providing bombs to eradicate entire populations. He doesn't care about imprisoning and torturing innocent people. He doesn't care about destroying tens of thousands of people's lives. He is perfectly fine with our aligning with the evilest despots in the world. He's cool with taking away healthcare from the poor. None of that is even considered "sin" in His eyes.

Just whatever you do, don't express love the wrong way. Don't touch yourself or others in unapproved ways. That's a foolproof way to get fire and brimstone rained down on you.

Unless you are Donald Trump, of course. The Supreme Court has ruled that Donald Trump is immune from any condemnation by God for any of his heinously immoral acts against humanity. Sexual or not.

"He doesn't give afuck about stealing from charities. He doesn't care about taking food from starving children."

While you love to remind me that I am stoopid, I love to point out that "you are not that stoopid."

    You went to Christian school.

You know d@ngwell that Jesus said that the only people who will be blessed when good people and the evil are those who, for the "least of these," fed them when they were hungry, visited them when they were in prison, welcomed them when they were strangers, and so on.

What I don't understand is why you have to lie.

    Indy,

"The Church is a business now."

When did that start? AD 300? AD 600? When Trump was elected? When?

I think you're viscously over-reacting. And most societies still have some of those rules on the books. Fathers not having sex with their young daughters for example. indy's favourate, sex with a child, rape, that sort of thing. And these two are nearly global cultural rules. Obviously, gays run the gamut of the acceptance. In some cultures, it's completely overlooked and accepted. I personally don't care. I'm like Lead, just reporting the facts of what it says. I also understand there are many others that have a lot of hatred about the lifestyle. My thought is that what is behind someone else's door is none of my business (with a few exceptions the law already covers).

    OD,

The US is coming back to rest of the world in its attitude toward hedonism. There was a time when the nation was open to acceptance of the argument that pleasure, broadly defined, is truth.

So, if you feel like you're a woman but have a man's plumbing, you're a woman because pleasure, not biology, reigns.

If you are a 60 year old man and enjoy fondling 8 year old boys, pleasure is supreme.

That, based on the fairly brief biblical account was exactly what the people of Sodom and Gamorrah believed.

Because I've been a student of Christianity for decades, I knew that Pope Leo would support notions of morality that have been accepted nearly universally for most of civilized human history. And, when I heard the report that his early support came from African Cardinals, I was certain.

That po could have even hope otherwise is a symptom on narcissism, IMO.

OD can't even talk about the bible without making it about pedophilia.

  14. by oldedude on May 20, 2025 8:55 am
And you spend a lot of time not denying you are a pedophile. You just shift and deflect.

  15. by Indy! on May 20, 2025 9:27 am

I spend a lot of time NOT denying I'm a pedophile? Maybe that's because - unlike you - everyone knows I'm NOT a pedophile? 🤔

I also spend a lot of time NOT denying I'm a two headed dog.

  16. by oldedude on May 20, 2025 9:39 am
You also minimize it. Along with rape and domestic violence towards women.

  17. by Ponderer on May 20, 2025 2:12 pm

    I love this.

    Reread what the Pope said.

And then look at where olde dude and MAGA Hat Hate ludicrously took the conversation to: Fathers having sex with their daughters, rape, and old men fondling young boys. And having the personal freedom to love and marry who you need to without hurting anyone equals Hedonism...???

Nothing that the Pope was anywhere near talking about. (And why would he want to talk about 60-year-old men fondling young boys anyways? I'm starting to suspect that this Pope may have on his mind bringing back many centuries-old, ecclesiastical traditions to the Church.)

What is with these two idiots on here talking so much about child rape all the time? For fucksake!!!

Basic human LGBTQ rights are nothing but "Hedonism" that should be societally condemned as evil to these fucking reprobates olde dude and MAGA Hat Hate. Same sex marriage and transgender rights are morally the same things as raping children to them. Because we all know what fuckinglame asses they are at making equitable comparisons.

This is why it's completely pointless to try to have a rational conversation about LGBTQ subjects with flaming bigot assholes like this. And it's why I never do anymore. Such assholes live for asinine slippery slope arguments whether it makes any sense whatsoever or not. Everything's gotta be blown out of all realistic proportion to make their enemies out to be as monstrous and evil as possible. It's why they have to always lie their fucking asses off and exaggerate so ridiculously much.

In Lead's opening sentence to this thread- Pope Leo XIV affirmed Friday that the family is founded on the “stable union between a man and a woman,” and that the unborn and elderly enjoy dignity as God’s creatures, articulating clear Catholic teaching on marriage and abortion at the start of his pontificate.

The pope stated that marriage was between a man and a woman, that covers both the laws of Genisis, moses through the laws of Christ. Including Sodom and Gomorrah, which discusses all of that. In the Pope's short mention, there are a LOT of passages covered, and lessons that apply to Jews, Christians, and Muslims (in different contexts, of course).

You have that freedom to love anyone you please. That's the key. This is the head of one sect of one religion. The Pope doesn't speak for me. Do I listen? Sure, in passing. It's interesting. Nothing more. Would he stop me? No. I'm under no obligation to him.

  19. by Indy! on May 20, 2025 7:10 pm

Neither are the Catholics. 90% of the French are Catholic, only 10% go to church. At least that's the way it once was. Here in America nobody is interested. My dad - a deacon in the Church - says his church has 25,000 members. Only 3000 or so attend church every week. The bigger problem is the parents don't bring their kids like they once did - so they aren't even being brought up in the Church.
