The case against Abrego Garcia is looking pretty shaky. The DOJ would rather avoid a trial.

I perused that selector. Probably over 90% of sports fans root for teams that represent the city they live in or near. None of the factors in your selector questions matter to them.

The selector in question is visitor created.

    Speaking of baseball...
Pete Rose and 'Shoeless' Joe Jackson reinstated from MLB's permanently ineligible list: Next stop, Hall of Fame?

The reinstated players will be eligible for the next Classic Baseball Era Committee vote in December 2027

Neither Jackson or Rose were available for comment.

I've always felt that a Hall Of Fame honor should be entirely about the player's performance on the field.

I don't know who said it, but I agree with this standard...

If you can't tell the story of the league without mentioning a player's name - then that player should be in the Hall of Fame.

The only thing worse than keeping a player that deserves it OUT of the Hall - is trying to save face by putting them IN the Hall after they died and can't enjoy the moment or the accolades.

So far as baseball, I doubt I'll ever attend another game. I'll watch some of the games if the Marlins make the World Series, but I don't see myself at any games in the future.

    Donna,
It's The Baseball Hall of FAME, not the Hall of SKILL. If a player's infamous behavior brings disrepute upon MLB, I can see that as a strike against their inclusion. Not necessarily a total restriction, but the good on the field has to be weighed against the bad off the field.

This corroborates what you said, Curt. From the Baseball HOF website:

The criteria for induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame include:

    * A player must receive at least 75% of the votes from the Baseball Writers' Association of America (BBWAA).

    * The player's record, playing ability, integrity, sportsmanship, character, and contributions to their teams are considered.

    * Traditional statistical milestones, such as 300 wins, 500 home runs, or 3,000 hits, have historically guided elections.

    * Players are removed from the ballot if they receive fewer than 5% of the votes or have been on the ballot for 10 years without election.

These criteria ensure that only the most deserving players are honored in the Hall of Fame.

I don't know about baseball, but I know when it comes football sportswriters' personal opinions about the players and their personalities play a huge part in who gets in or who doesn't. Ken Stabler was held out of the Hall until after he died because many sportswriters felt his late night carousing with women excluded him. It wasn't even a secret - they said it out loud.

  8. by Indy! on May 14, 2025 9:00 am

And if you want to talk about other Halls? The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is the biggest sham of them all. That one is ALL about personalities and what crappy music the old dinosaurs in charge of induction liked. They laughingly throw stupid bones to younger fans by inducting people like LL Cool J thinking that makes them look like they're up on things when really it just compounds the problem.
