Ole pb hates institutionalized religion but, as many here know, he was involved in it for decades. He even taught "church" history for a few years at a seminary so pb knows stuff.

The conclave that will select the next Pope is made up of Cardinals under the age of 80. Here's sumpthin you may not know: The person selected doesn't have to be a Cardinal. It can be anyone the members of the conclave choose.

Fascinatingly, just last week, pb and Curt were posting about the fine qualities of the famous Maryland father, Kilmar Abrego Garcia, whom Curt admires. Ole pb aksed if the Maryland father would be the first Saint Kilmar.

And, then, as if in prophecy, pb noted that the Pope is "poorly." Ole pb wondered, along with Curt. Might he actually become Pope Kilmar?

Yikes, gang!

Now, the conclave is being organized and who knows!!!!!?

Curt's guy just may be elevated to the papacy, on his way to being a Saint!

Typical misunderstanding of Catholic religion from an outsider. The pope cannot be picked from anyone on the planet. There is a set of guidelines that must be reached before qualifying as a candidate...

To become Pope, a candidate must be a baptized Catholic male who has the use of reason, is capable of accepting the election, and is capable of exercising the jurisdiction attached to the office. While technically any such male is eligible, historically, and in most cases now, the Pope is elected from the College of Cardinals.

See what they're saying there? Even if some random male HAS all the requirements necessary - they generally (read: always) pick a Cardinal.

    Indy,

    How is Kilmar unqualified?

    Read it closely...

"...capable of exercising the jurisdiction attached to the office..."

The pope is an actual job with a lot of responsibilities attached. Catholicism aint like Baptist or Methodist or any of the other watered-down versions of Jesus' one true Christian religion. You can't just make up shit as you go along and nobody cares. Snake handling, talking in tongues, etc... ? Not happening in a Catholic church on most Sundays.

    Again, how is he unqualified?

I understand that he's an unlikely candidate but, to hear Dems tell it, he's, unofficially, a Saint.

Do you see the word "saint" anywhere in my previous post as part of the requirements to be the pope? No. And maybe that's because no saint has ever been chosen to be the pope - probably because one of the requirements of sainthood is the person has to be dead whereas a pope has to be alive.

And please... pleeeeeeeeeeease... quit trying to be humorous. You are the least funny person I've ever met in my life - online or off.
