Deporting Abrego Garcia was a "mistake", now this.

Trump Officials Blame Mistake for Setting Off Confrontation With Harvard

That letter, according to the New York Times, was reportedly sent by “mistake” after Harvard refused to cave to the administration’s demands in a powerful public statement issued Monday.

"Some people at the White House believed it had been sent prematurely,” the newspaper reports. “Others in the administration thought it had been meant to be circulated among the task force members rather than sent to Harvard.”

After the university refused to back down publicly, it received a “frantic” phone call from a Trump official, according to the Times.

The veracity of the NYT report will tend to be confirmed or refuted by the White House's denials or lack of denials.

The New York Times isn't just corrupt, it's incompetent

In just one month (April, 2021)
Daniel Okrent, former Times ombudsman admitted to bias in the Times coverage of the Duke lacrosse case. He said, "It was too delicious a story.

On April 15, the Biden administration acknowledged there was no evidence that Russia ever offered bounties on American troops in Afghanistan, walking back a report that wounded former President Donald Trump in the run-up to the 2020 election.

Four days later, the Washington, DC, medical examiner revealed that Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick had not been murdered by rampaging Trump supporters during the Jan. 6 Capitol Hill riot, as reports had claimed, but had died of natural causes.

Both stories were based on anonymous, unidentifiable sources, but had become deeply enmeshed in the public consciousness. Both confirmed the assumptions of the nation’s left-leaning media and academic elite, while damaging their political enemies. “We toss the term ‘fake news’ around as if it’s something whimsical,” Rindsberg told The Post.

“But creating what I call a false media narrative is really hard,” he said. “It takes coordination, deliberation, and a lot of resources. And there aren’t many news organizations that can do it.”

With close to $2 billion in annual revenue, the Times has the money, prestige, experience and stature to set the narratives that other news outlets almost invariably follow.

“When the Times breaks these stories, it’s wall to wall,” Rindsberg said. “MSNBC, CNN — everywhere you look, you’ll get that story.

“And with the Times, it’s never just one false claim,” he said. “They make a concerted effort over time that they dig into and won’t let go.”

The paper’s coverage of Adolf Hitler’s Germany in the decade before World War II is an early example of its narrative manipulation, Rindsberg writes.

So glowing was its picture of the regime that the Nazis regularly included New York Times reports in their own radio programs.

As I said above, "the veracity of the NYT report will tend to be confirmed or refuted by the White House's denials or lack of denials." The story has been picked up by many news outlets. So far the White House has been quiet about it.

Nespapers everywhere gave glowing reports of the Nazi Regime before the war. It was not until 1934 that a young Welsh journalist investigated and broke the true news abi=out the Nazi regime. That took a little time to filter through. He actually interviewed Hitler> Something nobody else had done.

Interestingly, he followed that with the truth about the Stalin regime. He went to Moscow and was the only Western journalist who travelled outside Moscow and saw the horrors. He even ignored warnings and the refusal of permission by the Russian government and went to Ukraine posing as a Ukrainian, working alongside them at slave labour during the Holodomor, at times suffering the same hunger and deprivation.

There is a film about the Russian part called 'Mr. Jones.' A small budget one, unfortunately, that I don't think had wide circulation. It is worth seeing for the tragic depictions of the terrors and suffering.

I guess OD and Brown Short's glorious leader is not much of a leader if he can't even make his people understand the purpose of a letter he wrote (to somebody... we're still not sure who... 😂)

Maybe they just consider the source and think it's worthless.

He didn't even comment on the Ron DeSantis scandal after he praised him for giving money back to the state and then pocketing a bunch of it for himself and his wife. Which - by OD's own standard of "proof" - means he supports corrupt politicians, money laundering and ripping off American taxpayers.

  9. by ROB3RT on April 22, 2025 7:34 am

Or maybe it wasn't a mistake? Maybe the folks at the Trump White House were overly confident that Harvard would cave, now they need to back down. Instead of saying it was a bad idea to begin with, they're saying *the letter* was premature.

This is how they test boundaries to see what ideas will work. The raptors are checking to see if the electric wire is live.

    Gang,

Clearly, something ain't right with what Trump is doing, but...

    ... remember?

All y'nes tenaciously defended every act of "that feckless dementia-ridden piece of crap's" string-pullers. You know, that smoke-filled room that held up that genius who boasted that his gang "finally beat Medicare" and who claimed that immigrant women were being "raped by their in-laws and brothers and sisters."

Ole pb hates the whole Swamp. He gets it that the moderate and independent common sense voters who handed DC to the GOPs last November ain't taking you seriously. Baha.

    Robert,
It certainly may be a continuation of Trump's clumsy clean up technique after a blunder. Other Trump favorites include "I was being sarcastic" or "I was misinterpreted".
