Since the United States of America has just abandoned the honorific of "Leader of the Free World", who do you think it will be who takes it up again? Who do you think deserves the title now? There are a lot of qualified European countries that could be the new Leader of the Free World. Perhaps all of Europe before too long will be known as the Leader of the Free World. The way things are shaping up, there's no way we will ever regain the title.

My vote goes to Volodymyr Zelenskyy. He probably comes closest to matching the kind of leader of freedom that this country once stood for. The kind that will never give in to tyranny and oppression. The kind that will stand up to all obstacles in order to preserve the freedom of its citizens from fascism and imperial authoritarianism. Truly a patriot of his people. A hero who stands up to bullies no matter what.

Yep. Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the new "Leader of the Free World". Or what Trump is leaving of it.

    Zelenskyy is an autocrat who has canceled elections and opposition political parties. He's suspended habeas corpus [being an Ivy League law school professor, you know what that means]. He's ended free speech and freedom of religion.

    And, you complain about Trump. Can you say, hypocrite? See I knew you could.

    pb's been the most hawkish supporter of Ukraine here since before Russia invaded. But, he's not a fan of the Little Tyrant of Kiev.

    The autocratic tyrant Winston Churchill did all those same things when Hitler was attacking England. Being under attack in a violent war is not the best time to insist on maintaining a status quo.

    I did not say that he "cancelled civil rights", you mendacious asshole.

    He cancelled elections, like Zelenskii did. It wasn't just general elections that were suspended. Local elections were stopped too and the main parties agreed not to contest bye elections. Effectively British democracy was put on hold under a Prime Minister who had not received a popular mandate. Zelenskii actually DID have a popular mandate.

    You truly are a blind fool. Both Macron and Starmer have told little Donny to get stuffed inn their polite diplomatic way. Macron has pledged the French nuclear capacity to take over as the deterrent. Britain is also a nuclear power. Britain has taken the lead in getting Europe together to form its own independent military capacity for the express purpose of taking over leadership.

    The EU has, with one voice, and including Britain and Canada, which was included in the agreement, affirmed its support for Ukraine and will accept no solution that Ukraine cannot agree with.

    America is done as the world leader.

    And that is sad. It is Orwell's 1984. Oceana, Europa, and the other lot.
