Rep. Anthony Gonzales, R Ohio to "retire" rather than be Trumped in the Primary

He's one of the GOPs who voted for the second impeachment in spite of the fact that there was no investigation of the facts, thus no vetted evidence, to support the charges against Trump.

Just why a House member of the same party would support a sitting President's impeachment in a trial in which no legitimate evidence was presented, I can't imagine.

But, Gonzales did that.

Trump held his first 021 rally smack dab in the middle of Gonzalez's district. I watched the rally. Trump used a significant portion of his speech at that rally to talk about his history with Gonzales. Trump made it clear that he hoped to Primary Gonzales. The crowd went bonkers. Clearly, it was becoming obvious that Gonzales was, politically speaking, dead meat.

I've written on SS already that I think that Trump will use the 022 election to fashion the GOP in his own image and then take out after Joe, or whomever, in 024. That appears to be working.

I applaud Trump for reducing the number of incumbent Republican members of Congress thus increasing the Democrats' chances of retaining a majority in both houses.

I think that it's extremely unlikely that a Dem will take this seat, though gerrymandering is about to happen.

It's maybe unlikely but not extremely so. A Democrat represented the 16th ten years ago. More to the point, for non-incumbents it's harder to raise money and it costs more to become known to the voters. Trump is making the GOP's job harder.

This is an interesting one, Curt. Trump's already handpicked his guy. That's what the rally was all about. That rally was raucous.

The districts will be redrawn and the GOP controls that in Ohio. As you know from Trump's drubbing of Clouseau in 020, Ohio GOPs looooove them some Donald Trump. However, the top GOPs in Ohio aren't big Trump fans.

My guess is the redistricting will favor the GOP in that district and that a Dem victory will be a virtual mathematical impossibility.
