Karoline Leavitt White House Press Briefing On 1/31/25

Thanks, Karoline. If President Trump is telling us that air traffic control towers are staffed with unqualified controllers, these DEI hires who never should have been brought on, then it's not safe to fly commercially, is it?

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt (08:37):

The President was asked and answered this yesterday, and he believes that it is still indeed safe and Americans should feel safe traveling our skies. With that said, two things can be true at the same time, and we certainly have seen the deterioration of federal hiring standards at the Federal Aviation Administration, and the President wants to increase those standards. He wants pilots in this country who have the great responsibility of flying American citizens by the tens of millions every single day to be chosen for that position based on their merit and their skills. And so the administration will continue to prioritize this.

No, Karoline, those two opposites cannot be both true. It cannot be both safe and unsafe at the same time.

The pilots are a whole other separate issue. From what I understand they are dangerously underpaid and overworked.

"If President Trump is telling us that air traffic control towers are staffed with unqualified controllers,..."

That's nuthin like what Mr Tangerine Man is saying.

You really should step beyond the wisdom of your Holy Trinity.

HtS, don't take my word for it. You can read (and hear) what Leavitt said and you can get it straight from the mouth of the horse's ass:

Almost unbelievably, as a diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiative, the Biden FAA specifically recruited and hired individuals with “severe intellectual” disabilities, psychiatric issues, and complete paralysis over other individuals who sought to work for the FAA.

President Trump is immediately terminating this illegal and dangerous program and requiring that all FAA hiring be based solely on ensuring the safety of airline passengers and overall job excellence.

Republicans, especially MAGA, don't do logic well.

Trump is not arguing that anyone in the DCA tower was unqualified.

    HtS, yes, he was:
Driving the news: "The president made very clear that he wasn't blaming anybody, but he was being very explicit about the fact that DEI policies have led our air traffic controllers to be short staffed," Vance said on Fox News' "Sunday Morning Futures." "That is a scandal."

Trump did not provide evidence to back up his claims during a Thursday afternoon press conference where he railed against his predecessors and DEI initiatives, and drew widespread condemnation from Democrats and industry representatives.

There are widespread shortages of air traffic controllers — but there's no evidence that DEI hiring policies have impacted aviation safety.

Curt- From a few different sources, that is what I heard.

They were required to hire a number of DEI hires and couldn't fill the slots with DEI as required by the rule, so they didn't hire. The fault was clearly in the rule to have a certain number or percentage of DEI hiring. They couldn't find the applicants that fit the description and had the legally required skills to fill the slots.

    OD,
No, the Federal Aviation Administration did not recruit people with intellectual disabilities to work as air traffic controllers.

Furthermore, there is obvious contradiction in Trump’s and Leavitt’s claims. It is either safe to fly or it isn’t.

Despite what President Trump said at a press conference Thursday — "They can be air traffic controllers" — that's not how disability hiring works, says Chai Feldblum, a disability lawyer and former commissioner of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

Disability employment law, she says, requires "that the person with a disability must be able to perform the essential functions of the job."

"The president made very clear that he wasn't blaming anybody, but he was being very explicit about the fact that DEI policies have led our air traffic controllers to be short staffed,"...

Exactly. And that's not what you said. You said,

"If President Trump is telling us that air traffic control towers are staffed with unqualified controllers, these DEI hires who never should have been brought on..."

The truth is that DEI hiring policies have resulted in white, especially dude... QUALIFIED candidates not being hired resulting in serious understaffing.

Admittedly, you watch Fox more than I, but all I hear there is that, when the accident happened one controller was doing the work that should have been done by two.

    DEI did that.

But, no one I know says that there are incompetent people doing air traffic control.

I said did not fit the legal requirements of the position. Since you have your head up your ass, this includes; "Personnel Licensing from the Convention on International Civil Aviation.

These positions are extremely hard to get and take a skilled person to succeed. Someone that would want to get into this line of work, has to be dedicated for a few years of learning in order to even be fucking considered. WAY above either yours or princesses' skill levels. I'd consider both of you have "intellectual disabilities" and wouldn't qualify to apply.

Also; To become an air traffic controller, you need to:
Pursue an education: Earn a bachelor’s degree in any subject or have three years of progressively responsible work experience.

Meet the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requirements:
Pass a medical examination, security investigation, and
    FAA air traffic pre-employment test.
Pass the qualifying tests for an FAA training program.
    Complete an FAA training program.
    Gain experience.

  15. by Curt_Anderson on February 4, 2025 4:35 pm
No, OD, it was THE asshole who said it.

In a news conference on Thursday, Trump said that under Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden candidates with "severe intellectual and psychiatric disabilities" could be hired as air traffic controllers (ATCs). He suggested, without offering any evidence, that this could be to blame for the crash.

My most sincere apologies to you.

Okay, anyway, it takes alot to get in the schools and even more to finish. I know folks that get into the military just to get that training because of the cost. After four years, they're considered Apprentice, with some considered Journeymen (top of the class and have to pass the written, oral, and practical tests).

One of my uncles was basically the Richard Gere character from An Officer and a Gentlemen. He joined the Air Force to learn how to fly so he could have a career as a commercial airliner pilot. And that's what he did - put in his 6 years (or whatever it is) and then flew for one of the major airlines for 30 years. He married a strewardess.
