The poor, white and rural.

I'm watching Trump and Melania interact with these men, women and children.

"That feckless dementia-ridden piece of crap" never did reach out to these people... in nearly four months. Nor did the Dingbat!

Joe met with politicians. He took an aerial tour. That's it: "President Biden traveled to the Carolinas on Wednesday for an aerial tour of the widespread damage caused by Hurricane Helene, as well as a briefing on the ground on recovery efforts. Vice President Kamala Harris is in Georgia receiving updates on the emergency response to the storm's devastation there."

pb is sooooo pi$$€d and heartbroken on behalf of these people.

I've noted several times. My mother grew up in Appalachia. The people Trump invited to speak on camera look and sound like my cousins.

I'm watching the TV coverage of Trump and those neglected hillbillies. Bless Trump's heart! The tales of governmental negligence under Biden's FEMA are infuriating!

The Dems' recent defeat came at the hands of working class people and it's well-deserved!

Indy? isle, po? If you get the chance? Ask Bishop Budde if she could "have mercy upon" these poor, suffering people!

They are not forgotten, they are forgetful. But they will start remembering when Trump cuts Medicaid and other social safety nets. They will remember when tariffs cause prices to increase.

  2. by Indy! on January 24, 2025 12:46 pm

Every "America the beautiful" montage on every political program, moive, tv, show, politician's backdrop features poor, rural, white trash. They NEVER feature the big cities WHERE MOST PEOPLE ACTUALLY LIVE. It's all corn fields, barns and cowboys.

Again - TURN OFF FOX and rejoin reality, cop killer.

  3. by oldedude on January 25, 2025 7:24 am
Curt- I hope they're also not forgetful of the government specifically NOT getting government assistance meant for "all" victims of the storms from FEMA. I know you'll slither down the FEMA supervisor's leg when you make up some some story about the reason, but even FEMA "per se" had to apologize and make amends. They were caught red handed and couldn't get out of it. They had to admit they screwed up on that one, and violated their own charter with that one. Making up things to make your good little nazis look good has never done you well and just makes you, well... look like a lying' dog faced pony soldier. As it does here.

    I'M GUMBY DAMMIT!!!

  4. by Donna on January 25, 2025 8:28 am

Your boy Trump is talking about terminating FEMA and making the states responsible for their own disaster recoveries. States, especially red states are already broke, so how do you think that would turn out?

  5. by Curt_Anderson on January 25, 2025 8:58 am
Also, red states get a disproportionate amount of disaster aid. That includes states like Florida, Texas, and other states in hurricane Alley. Blue states like Massachusetts get little to no FEMA money. I’m sure they would be happy with an arrangement where each state takes care of itself.

  6. by HatetheSwamp on January 25, 2025 9:24 am

    Donna,

There's a sliver of truth in what you posted. I'm guessing you got it from one of your half-truthers on YouTube. If so, you really should repent of that sin... if not, it's po's metaphorical Rachel... and you should still repent.

    Curt,

I love it! You can still find ways to Good German! Youdaman!

  8. by oldedude on January 25, 2025 9:57 am
The difference between both your "arguments" and mine is that 1. States like (say) CO only receive FEMA money when there are floods, in which case the EPA is also involved and screws over farming (we've discussed this before).

Many states would be happy to use their own money supported by the feds. The issue I have with that is the blue states (LA, NY, CA, IL, etc) would use is for DEI and giving BS credit cards (money for illegal guns) to illegals (the point is they have ZERO Control over them after they're given to the person). Curt, that's as strong as your "most FEMA money goes to Red State bullshit."

What FEMA IS guilty of, that needs to be fixed is the absolute abuse of groups like the gator navy, Mercury One, and Team Rubicon are excellent groups that respond just to save lives. Both of these bring in their own gas, food, etc and will not use the FEMA food, water, equipment, etc. Rubicon trains their own people and each person is certified with each piece of equipment they use. Mercury One are helicopter jocks (flyers, maintenance, Rescuers, etc) that use their money (mostly their own) to fly their own helicopters in Helene, etc, and rented helicopters in Afghanistan to retrieve the people the US refused to get.

These groups already have a command and control group and have their own "go to" persons FEMA can go to for updates. They are also used to working with the issues they need. Mercury One, can work with Gator Navy to rescue people or visa-versa depending on equipment.
The issue with FEMA and these groups, is that FEMA won't allow these groups to do anything FEMA can't control, or they can't say they did.

Okay, then we'll see how well Louisiana manages without FEMA the next tume they get hit by a Cat 5 hurricane.

Wrong. Florida may get a disproportionate amount of disaster aid (I don't know) - but when it comes to which states are least dependent on the federal gov't overall? We're #5.

States Least Dependent on the Federal Government

    1. Minnesota
Between personal and corporate income taxes, excise taxes, estate taxes and gift taxes, Minnesota contributes $6.88 to the federal government for every dollar it receives for support. As the least dependent state on the federal government, Minnesota has a median household income of around $77,720 – above the U.S. median of $69,717 – and is the fifth most prominent agricultural state4.

    2. New Jersey
New Jersey’s dense population, proximity to New York City and Philadelphia, beaches, and a major port and airport are an effective combination for a productive economy. New Jersey also has a particularly educated workforce, which helps support the internal economy: With 41.5% of residents completing college5, it ranks fourth in the nation for 2017-2021. For every $6.28 New Jersey forks over to the federal government, it receives $1 back.

    3. Delaware
More than 65% of Fortune 500 companies in the United States are incorporated in The First State6, which is known for its business-friendliness. Delaware pays roughly $32.3 billion to the federal government in collective taxes or $6.09 for every federal dollar received.

    4. Illinois
Illinois is the sixth most populous state at over 12.5 million people – it’s also got the fifth largest GDP by state7,8. And by contributing $5.88 tax dollars for every $1 in returned to it, Illinois also takes the fourth place spot for least dependent on the federal government. Chicago’s location on the Great Lakes makes it an economic hub for the midwest, and like Minnesota, it is one of the top 10 agricultural states by production in the U.S.

    5. Florida
The Sunshine State is the fifth-least dependent state on the federal government contributing $5.78 tax dollars for every $1 in federal aid it receives. As a popular tourist destination, Florida had the fourth largest GDP of all states in 2022.

Since when is Louisiana considered a blue state? Oh right, they are not.

Residents of These 3 Red States Receive Most FEMA Funds as Trump Mulls Cuts
[Three] Republican-leaning states in the South, frequently struck by hurricanes, are the top recipients of FEMA funds, according to data from the Carnegie Disaster Dollar Database.
Florida, Louisiana and Texas are the three states that have benefited most from IHP from 2015 to August 2024, according to the data. Florida residents have received $2.5 billion, Louisiana residents have gotten $2.4 billion, and Texas residents have received $2.3 billion.

Each of those states backed Trump by more than 10 points in this past November's presidential race.

2014 saw an increase in disaster damages of 84%.

FEMA needs to be strengthened and better funded, not disbanded.

  13. by Donna on January 25, 2025 12:33 pm

Trump is too uneducated and mentally disturbed to lead our country. Someone should step in and end this nightmare before it's too late.

  14. by HatetheSwamp on January 25, 2025 12:52 pm

    *yawn* Bahahahahahahahahahaha haha ha.

Uh, Donna. The Biden White House staff is now admitting that Joe was in full-on dementia as President... and you were all for it until he bemoaned women "being raped by their in-laws and brothers and sisters" and boasted "we finally beat Medicare."

It's hard to take you seriously.

  15. by Curt_Anderson on January 25, 2025 1:15 pm
Even if there was a shred of truth in HtS’s comment #14 (There is not. Notice lack of citation.), Biden did not surround himself exclusively with servile bootlickers and toadies.

    Wall Street Journal, BABY!

How the White House Functioned With a Diminished Biden in Charge

You really do need to take a baby-step outside your Holy Trinity.

Yikes! This came out before Christmas. It stuns ole pb how much you refuse to know!

    wsj.com

  18. by Curt_Anderson on January 25, 2025 1:53 pm
I don't subscribe the WSJ, but even the part I could see refutes your "full-on dementia" claim.

(WSJ)Aides kept meetings short and controlled access, top advisers acted as go-betweens and public interactions became more scripted. The administration denied Biden has declined.

Who over the age of 60 isn't diminished in one aspect or more? As I said, Biden didn't employ the obsequious toadies and incompetents that Trump prefers.

Now consider what Trump's aides were saying about him in his FIRST term. I doubt he's improved in the interim.

Officials put Trump's name in 'as many memo paragraphs as we can because he keeps reading if he's mentioned'
Tactic among a number developed to keep easily distracted President focused on important information

‘Willful Ignorance.’ Inside President Trump’s Troubled Intelligence Briefings
Citing multiple in-person episodes, these intelligence officials say Trump displays what one called “willful ignorance” when presented with analyses generated by America’s $81 billion-a-year intelligence services. The officials, who include analysts who prepare Trump’s briefs and the briefers themselves, describe futile attempts to keep his attention by using visual aids, confining some briefing points to two or three sentences, and repeating his name and title as frequently as possible.

We've discussed Biden, and I criticized him harshly about some things, like not stepping down much earlier and his Israel/Palestine policy among other things, which you're whatabouting about nowv because you can't defend the clod you voted for.

  20. by Donna on January 25, 2025 2:02 pm

Sounds like they had to treat Trump like the mentally disturbed man-child he is.

    Curt,

    You are daGoodGermanbomb!

If there's a Good German Hall of Fame, link me to it. I'll nominate you in a heartbeat!

    Oh, and...

    TRUMP TRUMP TRUMP TRUMP
    TRUMP TRUMP TRUMP TRUMP
    TRUMP TRUMP TRUMP TRUMP... TRUMP!

    Really?

I despise Trump. I'm honest about him. But, you and Joe? Bahaha.

  22. by Indy! on January 25, 2025 2:34 pm

"Willful ignorance" is why the Homeless Hairdo pardoned all those cop killers. He didn't want to go thru all the names to see who deserved it or not, but it was too much work for what's left of his "brain" so he literally said "Fuck it - release all of them."

And the Brown Shorts on this board agreed with that... ahem... "decision". Making them cop killers after the fact too.
