Remembering the arguments about objectivity and subjectivity in the past, this might interest any with a philosophic bent.

It is about far more including post-truth and postmodernism. Gender identity. Critiques of both right and left.

It might be a bit deep for HtS but if you have time for a longish read, it is fascinating. I disagree with some of it but that doesn't matter.

    Interesting.

As you probably don't know, the notion that truth is subjectivity is a key foundation in the thinking of Søren Kierkegaard, one of ole pb's five heroes of Christian history. He detailed it more than a century before postmodernism emerged.

Of course objective truth exists. My point on SS is that, po, especially, but not exclusively, says to objectivity, "Go eff yourself!"

All of us bring our preferences and prejudices to every moment of our lives. For po, the preferences and prejudices are all that are necessary. po, simply, declares those preferences and prejudices to be universal objective reality. po will hear no reply.

For years, I told po that I wish I could live out subjectivity in my Christian beliefs as blindly as does po so brainlessly...

...that is, until po's antisemitism emerged.

You and I have been around that in the past. For Kierkegaard, to try to put it simply. objective truth was factual and subjective was more the relationship with God and other non factual things of the self: the personal.

I prefer objectivity. That kind of subjectivity may be comforting and give a more easy emotional passage through life but I would rather live with reality and deal with it instead of letting life with all its ills just pass by unchallenged.

I disagree with the assumption that Kierkegaard was extending Socratic thought.

    Re: "I prefer objectivity."

    Of course you do.

Your problem, as with all of us, is that you don't achieve objectivity.

My experience is that the people best able to achieve objectivity are those who begin acknowledging the reality of human existence that subjectivity is truth.
