President-elect Donald Trump has not responded to Gov. Gavin Newsom's invitation to tour California's fire damage, Newsom said Saturday afternoon.

Newsom sent a letter on Friday inviting the incoming president to California to meet with fire victims, survey the devastation in Los Angeles County and join him in thanking first responders. The invitation, which the governor’s office said was emailed to Trump’s team, marked a slight change in tone in the political battle between Newsom and Trump, with Newsom imploring Trump not to politicize the tragedy.

Newsom delivered an acid-laced reply when asked Saturday whether he expected Trump to respond to the invitation.

"He's an incoming American president," Newsom told a reporter Saturday as he stood on a Los Angeles airport tarmac in front of a hulking CalGuard Black Hawk helicopter. "I would expect any leader of the free world, the most powerful person in the United States of America, to respect the pleas of 40 million Americans that happen to live in the state of California, hundreds of thousands of people that are still evacuated and a recovery effort that includes, right now, cadaver dogs to look for human remains, to be here for the American people at a time of emergency and a time of recovery."

Trump's office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Chair Kathryn Barger echoed Newsom's call with her own invitation to Trump on Saturday, imploring the incoming president to stand with county residents as they rebuild.

Good luck with that one. My Dad - a Fox clone of the highest order - said he would be happy if California left the United States. Then I explained to him what that would mean economically to the rest of the states and he... still wanted them to leave. 😐

  2. by HatetheSwamp on January 12, 2025 9:57 am

What would it mean since California has its own $500,000,000,000 debt?

  3. by meagain on January 12, 2025 10:31 am
I thought HtS, that I had already educated you about California's debt. It could be taken even further to show how the various Municipalities debt is better than much of America. However!

    "Debt ratio
California's debt ratio was 106% in 2022, which was the fifth-worst in the country. This means that California owed more money than it took in.
    Per capita debt
California's per capita debt burden was the 12th highest in the country in 2022, at $2,460.
Debt as a percent of personal income
California's debt as a percent of personal income was the 15th highest in the country in 2022, at 3.2%.
Debt as a percent of state GDP
California's debt as a percent of state GDP was the 16th highest in the country in 2022, at 2.7%."

Economically, the last is the important figure. The debt to GDP ratio reflects the ability to pay.

Thanks, meagain. Show me the list of states with debts totaling more than half a $trillion and I'll be much obliged.

    Repubs and math. 😂

  6. by meagain on January 12, 2025 2:03 pm
There's Rhode Island. Delaware and one or two more of the big ones.

    You are a moron.

  7. by HatetheSwamp on January 12, 2025 3:19 pm

Teeny Rhode Island has a $half trillion in the hole? Keehee ha! You're foolofit!!!!!

  8. by Indy! on January 12, 2025 4:47 pm

    Ummm... peebs?

    CA is 155,859 sq mi
    RI is 1034 sq mi

    If we do the math...

    155,859 / 1034 = 150 (and change)

    RI's debt = 12.5B

    12.5 x 150 = 1,875,000,000,000

That's 1,875 Billion for RI compared to CA's 500 Billion

If you want to go by population?

    CA - 39M
    RI - 1M

    That's 39 - 1

    So 12.5 x 35 = $488B

    Right in line with CA

  9. by Indy! on January 12, 2025 4:49 pm

Ooops - that last "35" was supposed to be 39. But you get the idea. There is nothing out of the ordinary about CA's debt.

Bingo, dude. My point exactly, Indy!!!!!

RI is a hamster turd. California is an elephant patty!

But, both have been dominated by Dem woke insanity. And. America is figuring that out.

So one of you is wrong.

  14. by HatetheSwamp on January 13, 2025 9:51 am

I was confronting meagain's false claim
Of course, Rhode Island is nuthin compared to California... but meagain won't acknowledge the obvious truth.

  15. by meagain on January 13, 2025 10:03 am
I am not bothering to answer you, HtS. I could hardly bring myself to believe you are as idiotic as you =now confirm yourself to be.

  16. by meagain on January 13, 2025 10:09 am
Actually, I will give a little. If you had any intelligence, you would have appreciated that my response to you was sarcasm since I thought you were just trying to be a Smart Alec. However, it now appears that it was stupidity, or rather idiocy. Indy was correct in teaching you a little about the other theory of relativity—the simple, logical one that most of us possess.

  17. by HatetheSwamp on January 13, 2025 10:23 am

I'll be fair to you. RI is a hamster turd, California is an elephant patty... but that itty-bitty hamster Turd?... stinks really bad!

Shall we just get right to the point? Which states take more money from the government than they pay in? As it's always been - the red states are the welfare states. Here is an interactive map that shows you which states are taking more (or less) of our tax dollars than they pay in and which are supporting these welfare states. California - not surprisingly - pays over $5 to the US gov't for every 1 dollar they get back. IOW - CA is your red party's sugar daddy.

The link is below, the darker states are the welfare states, the lighter states are the ones carrying you Brown Short bums. Minnesota - possibly the bluest state in the country - pays in the most to get that one dollar back from the government.

"Shall we just get right to the point? Which states take more money from the government than they pay in?"

That's not what we're talking about. California has about a half trillion $$$ debt. Huuuuuuuuuge!

  20. by Indy! on January 13, 2025 11:13 am

The country is also in debt. Every other state is also in debt (as already shown). You probably have debt yourself right now - if not a mortgage, your current credit card bill(s). Debt is not a bad thing unless you are incapable of paying it - Meagain has already shown California CAN pay their debt. Debt is actually a valuable tool you can use to make your life (or state) better which is exactly what CA is doing. Your problem - as always - is you are listening to the idiots from the Aussie Fiction Factory.
