Not SHOULD. Will?

Getting a recall going in California is easier than in most states.

As far as Newsom is concerned, Trump's on his case... and, Newsom's a nimnul. And, Bass? Leaving the city when fierce Santa Ana winds were forecast? Poor judgment. Not to mention the disaster her DEI policies proved to be.

Ole pb won't be surprised.

Newsome has nearly doubled California's fire fighting force since he's been in office.

  3. by Indy! on January 12, 2025 2:37 pm

A fire with winds like that is not going to be stopped with a few more firefighters or another reservoir worth of water.

  4. by Curt_Anderson on January 12, 2025 3:23 pm
Most wild fires are forest fires. In those situations, there are not fire hydrants available, so claims that Gov. Newsom didn’t “permit” LA to have sufficient water is misplaced sniping. I doubt any US city has a water system that could control an inferno like what’s happening now.

On this side of the country, usually helicopters scoop up water from lakes and maybe the Pacific and drop it on the fire. Plus they drop some sort of pink fire suppressor.

  5. by HatetheSwamp on January 12, 2025 3:36 pm

    Curt,

That's impressive Good Germaning. These fires are the sort thing that could have happened any year. Santa Ana winds happen regularly. These were unusually fierce. But, nuthin new is taking place... nuthin not foreseeable. This is simply a matter of degree.

Karen Bass cut fire department funding by $17,000,000. I know Bass is almost as monumental a hero for you as "that" "dithering and diminished" "feckless dementia-ridden" Doddering Old Fool. But, when the dust settles, few, apart from po and Indy, will share your opinion.

HtS responds with his usual uninformed good moron-ing. Did I mention hypocritical? Republicans and conservatives are the first to demand lower taxes and budget cuts. Even in a city the size of LA, nearly $1 billion seems like a sufficient fire department budget.

"the [LA] fire department’s operating budget actually grew by more than 7% compared to the prior fiscal year, according to the city’s financial analysts."

"With the new contract approved, the budget for the [LA] fire department in Fiscal Year 2024 - 2025 increased from $819.6 million to $895.6 million. When compared to the previous year's budget (Fiscal Year 2023 - 2024), this current year's fire department budget in total is larger by $58.4 million."

"The LAFD has an overall budget of approaching $1bn, and it isn't the only department responding to the fires.

For example, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection and the Los Angeles County Fire Department are part of the relief efforts, along with the federal government."

Remember when Repub Tennessee(?) tried to charge people money for the fire department to show up and put out fires? Who pays when the forest is on fire? 😂

"Republicans and conservatives are the first to demand lower taxes and budget cuts."

Bullfernerner. Compare the way Florida handles the perfectly foreseeable threat of hurricanes to the way Karen Bass has lead the response to the fires were handled.

Imagine Ron DeSantis flying off to observe the Inauguration of Italy's Prime Minister when a category 5 hurricane is headed straight toward Miami. As reasonable as taxes are in Florida, the state is in a state of continuing preparation and when the storm hits, DeSantis is present and involved.

LAFD chief says budget cuts hindered response to California fires

    The Brief
Mayor Karen Bass said cuts to the LAFD's budget did not impact the city's response to the deadly wildfires.
    LAFD Chief Kristin Crowley disagreed.

"My message is the fire department needs to be properly funded," Crowley said. "It’s not."

According to Los Angeles City Controller Kenneth Mejia, the city cut the LAFD's funding by $17.6 million in the 2025 fiscal year, which started on July 1, 2024. Compared to the city's other departments, the LAFD saw the second-largest cut, next to street services.

    Curt,

You are an unthinking, visceral, Good German of everything Dem, progressive and Swampcult.

I can't understand why a person would set aside reason and logic, especially for the sort of things you... and po and Donna and Indy do.

    Oy freakin friggin EFFINvey!

Police chiefs and Fire chiefs always complain that budgets are insufficient. It is in their DNA.

The fires in LA were predictable to anyone with an understanding of the conditions brought about by climate change. The increased severity this time is entirely the consequence of the drying out of the surface caused by increased temperatures.

The best hope for the containment of the fire is the air tankers that are being sent from other jurisdictions to help, at least I think so. Each one can carry thousands of gallons of fire retardant or water.

Gov. Newsom considerably strengthened CA's fire response force, nearly doubling firefighting personnel and adding 16 firefighting helicopters and 7 C-130s. The truth is that Gov. Newsom turned CA's firefighting force into the largest, most well financed firefighting force on the planet.

    Donna.

"Gov. Newsom considerably strengthened CA's fire response force, nearly doubling firefighting personnel and adding 16 firefighting helicopters and 7 C-130s."

Of course, you provide no links, certainly no reputable links.

Truth? $Tens of billions of property in SoCal has been destroyed and Santa Ana winds happen regularly.

I don't believe your claim. You fall for every progressive Swampcult lie more easily than a seven day Creationist falls for Creation "Science."

But, the bottom line is the bottom line... and it's tragic.

    Shame on you.

Where did you get that Florida... ahem... "info"? I don't remember him ever coming down here before a hurricane. And not to ruing your latest Fox-fueled fantasy, but Florida was prepping the same way under Democrat governors and legislatures. Then there is the other issue - hurricanes come and are gone within hours - then you clean up. It's nothing like a wildfire.

“Imagine Ron DeSantis flying off to observe the Inauguration of Italy's Prime Minister when a category 5 hurricane is headed straight toward Miami.” —-HtS

I cannot imagine DeSantis would miss a chance to wear his gogo boots. As for Mayor Bass, she has a phone no matter where she is. It’s not like she needed to put on firefighter’s helmet and show up for photographers.

Mayors aren't allowed to travel? Is that the new scandal of the moment on the Aussie Fiction "Fact"ory?

  19. by HatetheSwamp on January 13, 2025 11:17 am

Mayors are unwise to hightail it out of town when a likely disaster... which materialized... is in the forecast.

They're also unwise to underfund fire fighting capability...

... and then to lie about it.

  20. by Indy! on January 13, 2025 12:43 pm

So if their house is in the path of the fire - they should stick by the phone in case Fox calls and wants to whine incessantly about them not doing a good job?

  21. by HatetheSwamp on January 13, 2025 12:57 pm

No, I think that she should have begun to prepare for the possibility that what happened would happen.

It's just absurdly, ridiculously poor leadership and incompetence.
