Benjamin Solomon Carson Sr. (born September 18, 1951) is an American retired neurosurgeon, academic, author, and government official who served as the 17th United States Secretary of Housing and Urban Development from 2017 to 2021. A pioneer in the field of neurosurgery, he was a candidate for President of the United States in the 2016 Republican primaries. Carson is one of the most prominent black conservatives in the United States.

Carson became the director of pediatric neurosurgery at the Johns Hopkins Children's Center in 1984 at age 33, then the youngest chief of pediatric neurosurgery in the United States. In 1987, he gained significant fame after leading a team of surgeons in the first-known separation of conjoined twins joined at the back of the head. Although the surgery was a success, the twins continued to experience neurological and medical complications. His additional accomplishments include performing the first successful neurosurgical procedure on a fetus inside the womb, developing new methods to treat brain-stem tumors, and revitalizing hemispherectomy techniques for controlling seizures. He has written over 100 neurosurgical publications. He retired from medicine in 2013; at the time, he was professor of neurosurgery, oncology, plastic surgery, and pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.

This was by all accounts an inarguably intelligent man. Yet he held and later reconfirmed the inarguably and blitheringly stupid contention that the Gaza Pyramids were not pharaonic tombs, but in fact granaries for storing grain. He even blathered this stupidity in public, as the video attests.

How could such a brilliantly smart man, who had the expertise and intelligence to operate on children's brains and be in charge of huge medical organizations, express such ridiculously asinine stupidity?

If it is possible for such a smart, intelligent and learned person to exhibit such utter stupidity, why would people who believe themselves to be of even average intelligence think it impossible to be stupid about some stupid things they stupidly believe in? How can they contend that stupidity and intelligence can't exist within the same person?

    po,

    Duh!

Obviously, the granaries were repurposed after the drought.

C'mon, as your political hero is wont to say, "man, gimme a break!"

    Gang,

If you look up "Hater who lacks imagination" in your dictionary, that sketch? That's po. Baha

Always with the corroboration. He's so stupid that he never understands that we don't need him to confirm his stupidity for us.

The other night a friend of mine attended a New Year’s party with a number of professional people, all seemingly intelligent. At some point someone mentioned “rising signs”. Everybody knew their rising sign except my friend.

But, po, it's not that ole pb is stupid, though he may be, it's that you are smart... and, all round better.

    HtS,
I don’t think you are stupid, but I think that you think we are all stupid. You say things and make assertions that are laughable.

  8. by HatetheSwamp on January 2, 2025 11:12 am

"You say things and make assertions that are laughable."

    E.g.?

I don't think any of you are stupid. Supposing that someone who thinks differently than you is stupid, as po's been demonstrating for years, is a progressive thing.

What I think of some of you are, is hapless, and uncritical, prisoners of the preferences and prejudices that you bring with you to every moment of your life. Some of you are very clever doing it, as a matter of fact.

Yesterday we had breakfast with one of my friends, a doctor who sees mostly older patients. So he’s very familiar with Alzheimer’s, other forms of dementia and less pernicious forms of mental slippage and changes. He rattled off various areas of intelligence including short term memory, long term memory, spatial awareness, visual recognition, logic, mental quickness and others. He said he’s had patients who are a little shaky in one aspect of intelligence but totally fine in others.

Generally the elderly are not good Jeopardy contestants but may have wisdom and commonsense. That is why I never thought presidential debates were an especially good indication of presidential fitness. I prefer wise presidents to glib presidents.

Propaganda (and advertising) work. Fox is a cancer on America - it's turned a lot of intelligent people into Trumpers. A brain works like a computer - garbage in, garbage out. If you don't believe it? How do you explain Budweiser's success? Worst beer in the store - biggest seller for years on end. Why? Great advertising (propaganda). The political comparison is the orange ass monkey - worst candidate out there (worse than RFK, Curt!!) - now president elect for the second time.

We are not a nation of idiots. We are a nation being fed incredibly dangerous ideas 24/7/365 by an Austalian owned propaganda network that goes FAR beyond just the most onerous outlet (Fox).

"The political comparison is the orange ass monkey - worst candidate out there (worse than RFK, Curt!!) - now president elect for the second time."

Trump's election has nuthin to do with the fact that he was running against a guy who got 87% of Primary votes, and who bragged in a debate, viewed by tens of millions, "we finally beat Medicare," only to be replaced by a day drinker who thought the answer to any question was, "You know, I grew up in a middle-class family."

America ain't stoopid, but Dems are. pb agrees, and has said so many times,...

    ...Trump was a horrible candidate...

...just not as bad as Hillary and the Dingbat.

  12. by Indy! on January 2, 2025 12:11 pm

Ds are stupid - we agree on that. But you Brown Shorts make them look like a pack of Albert Einsteins and Stephen Hawkings.

  13. by HatetheSwamp on January 2, 2025 4:30 pm

Uh, Indy. Who controls the Oval Office, the House, the Senate and the freakin friggin EFFINSupremeCourt?

  14. by Indy! on January 2, 2025 7:14 pm

3 of the last 4 presidents (5 if you count the orange ass monkey twice) were mentally challenged, Brown Shorts. The two Rs couldn't even read.

"HtS, I don’t think you are stupid," -Curt

He may not be inherently stupid.

But he constantly insists on making stupid assertions, doing stupid things, and holding to stupid notions.

He at the very least acts as though he's truly very stupid.

  16. by HatetheSwamp on January 3, 2025 8:21 am

You know that, po, because you center the universe.

  17. by Ponderer on January 3, 2025 8:32 am

There's a great example, Curt. Even when called out on his stupidity, he insists on presenting even more of it.

  18. by Ponderer on January 3, 2025 8:33 am

I've been trying to give him the benefit of the doubt, Curt.

But he's leaving me little recourse than to believe that he actually is stupid.

  19. by HatetheSwamp on January 3, 2025 8:37 am

    po,

Two absolute objective truths about you:

    1. You are a joyful prisoner of the preferences and prejudices that you bring with you to every moment of your life.
    2. You are a narcissist who judges everyone and everything by the standard of your own prejudices.

  20. by Ponderer on January 3, 2025 8:51 am

As he confirms, I did not use the word constantly lightly.
