Alabama Senator Tommy Tuberville said Thursday that it's "not our job" to vet President-elect Donald Trump's nominees.

"Who are we to say that we're a better picker of people than Donald Trump?" Tuberville told CNN's Manu Raju.

Raju reminded Tuberville that advising and consenting on presidential nominees is a core responsibility of the Senate.

Tuberville acknowledged that in part, saying, "We're advise and consent. But that's more the Democrats."

I, for one, don't agree with that. I think it's important for congress to at least give input. Tuberville notwithstanding. I think it's a good system of checks and balances. If you can't get a simple majority then either you have the wrong person, or you're getting stonewalled by the opposing party.

Comical how easily the orange ass monkey fooled all the wingdings.

Tuberville was a decent college football coach but, as a US Senator? Oy freakin friggin EFFINvey!!!!!

InnCanads, Senators are chosen by the Governor General on the advice of the Prime Minister. Not much different than yours on the face or it and leading to political affiliations. However, before that, they must satisfy a number of requirements and you can read about them here:

    https://www.canada.ca/en/campaign/independent-advisory-board-for-senate-appointments/assessment-criteria.html

That does not stop them from breaking by Political party. There, Trudeau has cut his Liberal Senators loose and will not have them affiliated with the Party. They are all officially independent. The Conservatives are still Conservatives.

meagain- No one has disagreed with you. Across the board we're disagreeing with Tuberville.

I know that but it still does not prevent Trump from getting his own loyalists. I was just pointing out how it could be done and is done here. Trudeau's move has ended any significant bias.

Firstly, I think that's bullshit. Trudeau has only moved them to "unidentifiable? It's not the same.

  8. by meagain on December 10, 2024 7:11 am

Unidentifiable! What on earth is that supposed to mean? They are not allowed to sit as a Liberal caucus and they are officially independent and do not necessarily follow the Party line.
