The Labor Department on Friday reported that employers added 12,000 jobs in October, well below the 113,000 gain that was predicted by LSEG economists and the lowest tally since December 2020.

[AND...]

The number of jobs added in the prior two months were both revised downward, with job creation in August revised down by 81,000 from a gain of 159,000 to 78,000, while September was revised down by 31,000 from a gain of 254,000 to 223,000.

Bidenomics, BABY!

I saw that this morning. Up until this month, the jobs figures have been much better than expected, so maybe this is a correction of sorts.

  2. by HatetheSwamp on November 1, 2024 12:49 pm

Except that the August and September jobs numbers were revised downward.

Number of jobs created by presidents - Couple funnies...

    1) tRump is the ONLY "president" with a negative number. 😂

    2) EVERY GOP president (even the ones who followed other GOP presidents) has "created" (wink, wink) less jobs than their predecessor. The Ds

    3) The ONLY presidents who fell below 1% job creation rate are GOPers

    4) Who's kicking EVERYBODY's ass? Kamala and Joe

The jobless rate unchanged at 4.1%, labor force shrinks. That's because of Boeing's and other labor strikes plus hurricanes. Strikers and victims rebuilding their homes are considered unemployed.

But even at Biden's current 4.1% that's better than every other presidential administration going back to Truman. The labor data doesn't go back earlier than that. The unemployment rate was 5% while Trump was president.

Trump voters who say they are concerned about the economy, judge the economy based on what they personally are paying for eggs and gasoline even though presidents have very little to no influence on those costs. Those everyday household expenses are all subject to supply and demand. Trump voter are not scrutinizing the Labor Department's latest economic data and employment reports.

Incidentally, gasoline prices are about as low as they've been all year.

    From Dept of Labour.

    Unemployment
    Full-Time workers- up .1%
    Part time workers- up .1%

    Employed
    Full-Time workers- down 164 jobs
    Part-Time workers- down 227 jobs

To me, this looks like stagnation. Nothing really moved in either direction. So if you're looking to put people back to work, this isn't it. Bad news for kammy, better news for trumpster.

    GAS Prices-
    JAN 2020- $1.98 for Regular
JUN 2022- $5.032 for Regular (Highest)
OCT 2024- $3.261 (down from $3.338 the month before)

    DIESEL PRICES-
    Oct 2024- $3.566
    Sep 2024- $3.571
    Oct 2023- $4.451
    Jan 2020- $1.959

The prices "are getting better is nothing more than playing politics. During an election year you have to look at what the present administration was given, and compare that to now.

If I were the trumpster campaign, I would put these numbers out, along with doing a comparison with groceries. I know the libs don't care, because they're "rich" enough to pay whatever prices to get whatever they want. And none of them have to work a couple of jobs to pay rent, so they don't care about the single-parent families. My point here is the jobs are going down and gas is still 50%+ what is was when pedojoe went into office. Kammy's solution? Stay the course😱.

Gas prices are determined by nothing more than whatever Exxon wants to charge. Prices go up when they want the current prez out and they go down when they want the present prez to keep his job. They gouge whenever presidents let them - like when the orange monkey allowed them to gouge us during covid.

We also kept selling off our reserves. They fucked us on that because of the system of demand and supply. We don't have the "supply" now.

    “ GAS Prices-
JAN 2020- $1.98 for Regular”. —OD

Do you remember what was happening in January 2020? COVID. Businesses were shut down. People were working remotely. Schools were closed. People avoided restaurants and indoor public places. People were not traveling by car or plane. Depressed demand equals lower prices. Economics 101.

  9. by oldedude on November 1, 2024 3:14 pm
I remember we had plenty of gas, enough to sell to other countries, and we also had an excess LP, heating oil, and our reserves were topped off. All we had to do is to keep that up. That's all🙄.

Gas prices are determined by the rate of tax applied. The underlying price is the world price that is governed by supply and demand at the global level, except that OPEC wields a disproportionate influence with its ability to control that.

The employment figures in the USA are deceptive. On the face of it, the levels would be the envy of the world. Unfortunately, they do not reflect the truth. All these categories are missing from the calculation. Several are include in other countries.

The unemployment rate in the United States does not include people in the following categories:
Discouraged workers: People who have stopped actively looking for work
Underemployed workers: People who are working but not in a job that matches their skills or experience
Freelancers and gig workers: People who recently lost clients
Part-time workers: People who are employed part-time
People who have exhausted their benefits: People who are unemployed and have used up all of their unemployment benefits
People who have not yet earned benefit rights: People who are new to the labor force or have recently re-entered it
Disqualified workers: People who are unemployed because of their own actions, such as being fired for misconduct
People who are not looking for work: People who have not looked for work in the past four weeks
The unemployment rate is the percentage of people in the labor force who are unemployed but actively looking for work. The labor force includes people who are 16 or older, live in the United States, and are not in institutions or on active duty in the military.

    Meagain,
Even if I never looked at an employment report or labor statistics, I would know unemployment is very low. Here in southern Oregon since 2021 I have been seeing local merchants advertise on TV “help wanted” instead of selling their products or services.

Restaurants locally have reduced hours and in at least one case, closed, because of the stated reason of not having enough employees. Btw, the minimum wage here is $14.70 for all workers including restaurant workers where they also get tips.

  13. by Indy! on November 4, 2024 10:25 am

They gouged us too much this time. $14.70 aint going to cut it. Better to stay home and collect a gov't check like some of our board members.

    Indy,
What is the minimum wage in Florida?

  15. by meagain on November 4, 2024 10:50 am
Oregon is one of the progressive States. I don't know about Washington's minimum but the city of Seattle is $20 and that is more like a living wage. Australia has a $20 minimum, I believe.

Canada lags there with $15 in most provincesI think my granddaughter in her part time Pizza job before University got around $9. That was Indiana.

  16. by HatetheSwamp on November 4, 2024 11:43 am

"As of September 30, 2024, the minimum wage in Florida is $13 per hour."

In Dem run Pennsylvania, it's $7.25.

  17. by Indy! on November 4, 2024 12:07 pm

Florida's is $13. and it goes up every year until it hits $15. One of those slow walk bills they were passing in the wake of Floyd/Covid. Keeps everyone poor (like all minimum wages).

me- The employment figures in the USA are deceptive. On the face of it, the levels would be the envy of the world. Unfortunately, they do not reflect the truth.

I agree. That's been one of my major concerns. This administration believes that having to have two "part time" jobs is as good as one "full time" job with benefits. Which is very far from the truth to the point of lying to Americans. As long as it's a "job" the administration is gloating about it.

In the last administration, the president understood that part time jobs are entry level and great for people that choose that. But the real power of a society is in full time jobs with benefits. But that's the difference with a businessperson and a professional politician.

High minimum wages reduce employment because jobs cost the owners more, and adds to inflation. Our IRS is also a huge issue. For those in jobs that get tips, many times the IRS will automatically "assume" the tips and if you don't claim that, they'll audit you and claim them for you. Along with all the additional late fees and whatever they want to. The taxpayers' recourse is little to nil.

  19. by Indy! on November 5, 2024 8:47 am

Because people just starting working two jobs in 2020. God it must be hard continually trying to rewrite history to make your fat orange piece of shit look competent.

  20. by meagain on November 5, 2024 8:53 am

"High minimum wages reduce employment because jobs cost the owners more, and adds to inflation."

Intuitively, that would appear to be the case. However, several economic studies and experience have shown it is not. It has little to no effect, with some saying the stimulus plus the better incentive to take a minimum-wage job actually increases employment.

  21. by Indy! on November 5, 2024 9:01 am

The economy is lifted every time the minimum wage is lifted. Every valid study has shown this to be true. Wingnuts - however - being only linear, shortsighted thinkers, can't get past the part about employers paying more even though it leads to them making more.
