Consider Walz’s remarks on Monday about Trump: “He’s sitting down at Mar-a-Lago … and this was his exact quote, he’s talking to a bunch of folks at Mar-a-Lago: ‘You’re rich as hell, and we’re gonna give you a tax cut.’ At the same time, he was telling workers they get paid too much already. That’s who this guy is.”

Walz continued: “You tell me who in Wisconsin is sitting around saying, ‘Damn, I wish they’d give billionaires tax cuts and screw me over. Damn, I wish they’d take my health care away. I wish they’d underfund my public school. I wish they would make my job more difficult and more dangerous. And then at the end of the day I wish they’d make me work ’til I’m 75 years old.’”

My guess is if Harris loses Pennsylvania (and the election) Matt K. Lewis will write a column saying he was wrong when he said he was wrong about Tim Walz.

She probably should have picked Shapiro. Pennsylvania is the whole ballgame.

  2. by Indy! on September 8, 2024 6:42 pm

Nope. I sure hope Harris isn't playing this like Hillary and skipping states because some DNC bean counter said she can't win them. If Obama did that we would have had McCain for president.

    Rob3rt,
    Lewis said as much:
"Now, if Harris loses the presidency because she loses Pennsylvania by a fraction of a point, she might regret the decision to choose Walz over Shapiro (and I might regret going back on my reservations). But based on what we have seen since his selection, Walz’s charismatic “everyman” appeal more than makes up for his potential downside."

I like the Walz pick because he looks like a guy who would vote for Trump. It's harder to hang a crazy liberal label on him than it would be the onto the bespectacled Shapiro. Anyway, nothing precludes Shapiro from campaigning for Harris, which he has done on Pennsylvania.

I also have the sense that it's better not to push the envelope with too many firsts in a presidential ticket. Being the first female, south Asian/Black is enough. The first Jewish VP might be too much.

That's what I said the day Biden stepped down - don't be the stupid Ds of the past and nominate a veep based on their religion or sexual orientation. And DEFINITELY do not pick a guy to please GOP voters like Hillary and Gore did. Pick a nice safe - somewhat older - governor or senator. Preferably one with a personality. Sometimes you need to play it safe and just follow the rules.

James Carville had pollster Whit Ayers on his podcast the other day. Ayres said he had seen polling indicating that Harris would have a 5 point lead in Pennsylvania right now if she had picked Shapiro.

For every action there is an equal opposite reaction. She picks up 5 there - loses it somewhere else.

As a "conservative pundit," to use an NCAAF analogy, Mark K. Lewis is D3. Ole pb, who monitors right-wing media daily, had to Google him... never heard of him. Wishes he still hadn't.

I read the article. It seems to me, if Lewis speaks for anyone, it's the Cheney Gang... viscerally conservative and fiercely Swamp.

It strikes me that, in 024, Establishment SwampGOPs are standing for Kammy. Obviously, that's not to embrace her ideology. It's to defend the dysfunctional and corrupt DC political culture.

The election is becoming a Swamp versus "Them" election.

If anything tempts ole pb to vote for Trump, it's exactly that. Every who benefits from and supports the old, filthy politics is for Kammy who'll be nuthin but an empty suit,... a robot. And, Tim's a perfect fit as her Veep.

And, Indy! You should be ashamed of supporting that.

I was pulling for Walz. She made a wise choice.

  9. by HatetheSwamp on September 9, 2024 8:26 am

Except that, based on what I see, Kammy's team is still on the defensive.

And, we know how Trump's done with Nate Silver and gamblers since the Walz choice.

Give me the source on my "support" for whatever it is you're talking about, pb. My actual words.
