This is an email I received yesterday: We’ve canceled your flight to Boston (BOS)
We’re sorry to let you know we’ve canceled flight UA2647 from San Francisco to Boston because a third-party software outage is impacting computer systems worldwide across multiple companies…
The third-party mentioned is a Texas based company called “Crowdstrike”. Their sole function is to prevent hacking attacks. But they just essentially hacked the entire world’s computer systems. It’s hard to imagine how such a screwup happened. It is sort of like the fire department accidentally setting the city ablaze.
By the way, we have been rescheduled for a flight on Tuesday, which is two days later. For us, it is annoying, but I’m sure it’s much worse for people who are stranded in places where they have no accommodations or possibilities of transportation.
