This will be a gratifying boost for Biden as he prepares for their debate.
This reminds me when I was miler on my high school track team. I used to consider strategies and decide if it were better to jump to an early lead in the race, or maybe wait until the final straight away to run past my opponents.
538's polling aggregate is obviously within the margin of error. Biden leads 40.8 to 40.7, but it's better to be ahead than behind. And the trend is certainly in Biden's favor.
The New York Times’s polling averages show a very close race nationally with them tied at 46%. RCP, which doesn't weight polls for accuracy or leaning, has Trump up by a tenth of percent. Suffice to say it's close race with a lot riding on their debate performances.
